Mphasis to provide multi-cloud experiences to customers with VMware Tanzu

Mumbai, Jan 30 () Share India Insurance Brokers, which recently received insurance broking licence from Irdai, on Thursday said it is in talks with leading insurance players such as LIC, HDFC Ergo General Insurance and HDFC Life for selling their products.
<p> The company, which has already tied up with ICICI Prudential Life, is targeting a premium collection of Rs 500 crore over the five-year period. 
</p><p> It will be focussing on providing insurance to the underinsured segment and will offer tailored-made life and non-life products, the company's CEO and principal officer Ajay Patel said.
</p><p> "There is a huge potential for growth in this business as insurance market is still underpenetrated in the country," Patel said.
</p><p> The company received direct licence for selling life and non-life insurance products from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (Irdai) in December.

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Pascal Le Segretain/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Woody Allen.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>On Thursday, Woody Allen sued Amazon Studios, the tech giant's movie arm, claiming breach of contract.</li><li>The suit claims Amazon refused to release Allen's most recent movie, "A Rainy Day in New York," and terminated its four-movie production and distribution contract without cause.</li><li>Allen is seeking more than $68 million in damages, according to the suit.</li><li>The suit claims that Amazon backed out of the deal after allegations that Allen molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Fallow, resurfaced in 2018.</li></ul><p> </p><p>On Thursday, writer-director Woody Allen sued Amazon Studios claiming breach of contract after the tech giant allegedly refused to distribute his most recent movie, "A Rainy Day in New York," and ended its four-picture production and distribution deal with him.</p><p>According to the suit, obtained by Business Insider, Allen is seeking more than $68 million in damages.</p><p>The suit claims that Amazon backed out of its deal with Allen last June after allegations that he molested his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, resurfaced after the #MeToo movement gained traction. Allen denies the allegation, which goes back 25 years. </p><p>According to the suit, the relationship between Allen and Amazon got shaky in late 2017 when Roy Price resigned as president of Amazon Studios following sexual harassment allegations against him. </p><p>The suit claims that in December 2017, Amazon executives met with Allen's representatives to discuss the negative publicity following the Price allegations. In January 2018, Allen and Amazon reached an agreement to push back the release of the "A Rainy Day in New York" to 2019, according to the suit. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>YouTube/Amazon</span></p><p class="caption">2016's "Café Society," was the first Woody Allen movie released by Amazon Studios.</p></div><p></p></div></div>But in June 2018, Amazon Studios sent Allen's production company, Gravier, a termination notice, the suit says.</p><p>"Amazon does not intend to distribute or otherwise exploit the Pictures in any domestic or international territories," the email, sent by Amazon Studios Associate General Counsel Ajay Patel, said, according to the suit. Woody Allen is suing Amazon for $68 million after the tech giant killed his movie deal

And, in a rare role-reversal, Amazon is considered <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/analysts-say-amazon-and-vmware-are-teaming-up-to-take-down-microsoft-2018-12">somewhat dependent on the VMware partnership</a> to push its all-important cloud business into the next big thing known as "hybrid" cloud.</p><p>Hybrid is when companies keep some of their apps in their own data centers and use the public cloud for others, all of it engineered to work happily together. AWS is the leader in public cloud but VMware is the king of private data centers and hybrid computing, with half a billion customers. The AWS/VMware duo has been widely seen as a way for Amazon to stay in front of a fast-growing Microsoft Azure cloud business.</p><p>But partnering with Amazon is like swimming with a scorpion on your back.</p><p>Amazon never hesitates to compete with its partners. AWS <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/logicworks-takes-135-million-investment-2016-12">routinely launches</a> its own services that <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/30/aws-is-competing-with-its-customers.html">compete with those</a> who use or sell their wares on its cloud. In fact, in December, Amazon released just such a service, <a href="https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/firecracker-lightweight-virtualization-for-serverless-computing/">called Firecracker.  </a></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GoX9h_gD3M">www.youtube.com</a></span></p><p class="caption">YouTube/Amazon Web Services</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>And, interestingly enough, it was also in December that Microsoft and VMware <a href="https://cloudblogs.microsoft.com/dynamics365/2019/02/25/introducing-dynamics-365-mixed-reality-applications-for-hololens-2-and-mobile-devices/">quietly teased information </a>about a partnership that will put VMware's flagship hybrid cloud software on Microsoft Azure, a similar thing as its partnership with AWS. The VMware/Azure service was still in "preview" mode, where customers can kick the tires, the two companies said.</p><p>They didn't say when this service would be generally available. But six people <a href="https://www.theinformation.com/articles/microsoft-and-vmware-working-on-cloud-partnership">told the Information's Kevin McLaughlin</a>, that the two may announce details, and even a broader partnership, in a matter of weeks.</p><p>VMware and Microsoft have been arch rivals for decades even though they have also partnered up as needed over those years.</p><p>And in its blog post about the new Microsoft Azure partnership, VMware made it very clear that the company feels no more a sense of monogamy toward AWS than AWS feels toward VMware. Ditto for Microsoft.</p><p>Ajay Patel, the VMware's exec responsible for VMware's cloud products, pointed out in the post that VMware is also partnering <a href="https://cloud.vmware.com/community/2017/11/22/vmware-platform-choice-cloud/">with IBM's cloud,</a> European cloud provider OVH, Rackspace, CenturyLink and will do so with "others come to market," he said.</p><p>Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Microsoft and VMware are working on a partnership that won't make Amazon happy

<p>It is essentially a replacement for Siri that can sync with third-party apps.</p>

That's software that lets devices securely run Windows apps from afar without installing Windows or the apps directly onto the a computer. The two also said they are looking into bringing VMware's computer networking software, NSX - which competes with similar products form Cisco - to Azure, but didn't make any kind of formal commitment on stage. </p><p>Dell is throwing its configuration software into the deal, so companies can buy pre-configured Windows PCs from Dell that run virtual desktops hosted from Microsoft's cloud, all managed by VMware software.</p><h2>An 'ouch' for Amazon </h2><p>If there's a loser in this deal, it would be Amazon.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GoX9h_gD3M">www.youtube.com</a></span></p><p class="caption">YouTube/Amazon Web Services</p></div><p></p></div></div>That's because VMware and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are also major partners, a union announced in 2016 that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-vmware-aws-outposts-hybrid-cloud-2018-12">has become a boon to both companies so far.</a></p><p>In a rare role reversal, Amazon is considered somewhat dependent on the VMware partnership to push into the biggest, growth area in the cloud market, known as  hybrid cloud.</p><p>That's where companies keep some of their own apps, servers and private data centers for some needs, and use public cloud computing, like Microsoft Azure or AWS, for other needs. It's big business, but it requires both parts of the puzzle to be tightly linked to each other.</p><p>Microsoft, especially, has thrived in the hybrid cloud market - it grew up in the era before there was a cloud, and now operates the popular Microsoft Azure cloud platform, making it relatively easy to help its millions of business customers make the transition. </p><p>VMware, meanwhile, has half a billion customers using its data center software. By partnering up with VMware, Amazon gets to connect those data center customers to its own AWS, the largest public cloud. In so doing, AWS gets the hybrid tech and access to <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="enterprise">enterprise</keyword> customers it needs to compete against one of Microsoft's biggest strengths.</p><p><strong>Read</strong><em><strong>: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/male-diverse-microsoft-programer-runs-afoul-of-brilliant-jerks-2019-4">A male Microsoft programmer who came from the military, not a university, describes how his career got tanked by the 'brilliant jerks' culture</a></strong></em></p><h2><span>From feud to buddies </span></h2><p>Microsoft and VMware have been bitter competitors for decades, but Microsoft wasn't about to stand by while the AWS-VMware duo encroached on its most defensible position in the cloud wars. </p><p>So, in late 2017, shortly after VMware's <a href="https://ir.vmware.com/overview/press-releases/press-release-details/2017/VMware-and-AWS-Announce-Initial-Availability-of-VMware-Cloud-on-AWS/default.aspx">cloud products became available</a> on Amazon's cloud, Microsoft started working with a VMware partner to bring VMware software to Azure - without the official consent of VMware itself. </p><p>In a <a href="https://cloud.vmware.com/community/2017/11/22/vmware-platform-choice-cloud/">blog post at the time</a>, VMware Senior Vice President Ajay Patel described Microsoft's unofficial take as an "<span>offering" that was "being developed independent of VMware," and said that the company was talking to the partner behind it about the situation. </span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Satya Nadella (left), Michael Dell</p></div><p></p></div></div>Patel went on to write that VMware was already formally working with several cloud providers, namely AWS,</span><span> and warned people to stay away from its software on clouds it has not approved, with emphasis ours: "You can look to VMware Cloud on AWS and cloud offerings from partners such as IBM, OVH, Rackspace, Virtustream, CenturyLink and as others come to market, <strong>that are properly validated and supported by VMware."</strong><br /></span></p><p><span>A few weeks later, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Azure Corey Sanders <a href="https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/vmware-virtualization-on-azure/">published his own blog post.</a> </span></p><p><span>He implied Microsoft planned to bring VMware to its cloud, or at least its negotiating table, with emphasis again ours:</span><span>  "We are facilitating discussions with VMware and the VCPP partners to ensure you have a great solution and a great support experience <strong>when we make this offering generally available next year." </strong>Note that this was published in December 2017.</span></p><p>Michael Dell was in a perfect position to broker a deal. His company Dell Technologies owns the majority stake in VMware, has a vested interest in VMware. But he's also been a close friend to Microsoft for years. Dell's PC business has always depended on Microsoft Windows. Dell today supplies Windows servers and other hardware to many enterprise software clients.</p><p>Microsoft even loaned Dell $2 billion back when <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsofts-explanation-of-why-it-loaned-dell-2-billion-2013-2">he took his company private in 2013.</a></p><p>And so all three CEOs joined up on stage today to announce VMware's new services on Azure. </p><h2>Goes around comes around</h2><p>If Microsoft is cutting in on Amazon's plans, it's unlikely that Amazon will garner much sympathy. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger</p></div><p></p></div></div>Amazon never seems to hesitate to compete with anyone.
