The GVK-run <keyword id="6592232" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mumbai-International-Airport-Ltd">Mumbai International Airport Ltd</keyword> (MIAL) would have to wait till November for an upward revision in airport charges as the tariff regulator has decided to continue with the existing rates for another three months. "Aeronautical tariff(s) approved by the Authority vide order dated January 15, 2013, shall continue up to November 30, 2015, or until the final determination of the tariffs for the second control period (2014-2019), whichever is earlier," <keyword id="630312" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airports-Economic-Regulatory-Authority-of-India">Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India</keyword> (AERA) said in its order. 

	Aeronautical revenue consists of charges such as aircraft landing and take-off fees, aircraft parking charges and passenger services fees. 
 

	"The revenue so collected by the airport operator (MIAL) during such period shall be adjusted from the Aggregate Revenue Requirement for the second control period, starting with effect from April 1, 2014," it said. 
 MIAL is a 74:26 joint venture between a GVK-led consortium and <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword>. 

	The User Development Fee paid by passengers flying out of the Chhtrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) currently stands at Rs 274 for domestic departures and Rs 574 for the international ones. 
 

	As against a demand for an increase of 881 per cent, CSIA had got approval for a 164 per cent hike in aeronautical charges last time for the first control period. 
 

	AERA had earlier extended the continuation of the existing tariff till rpt till August 31, suggesting that it has not been able to come up with its consultation paper on tariff revision for Mumbai airport. 
 

	AERA has to prepare a consultation paper and invite feedback from stakeholders, including MIAL, before finalising the revised tariff.

Mumbai Airport has to wait for revised airport charges: AERA

Not all is gloomy for airport operator Airport Authority of India (<keyword id="47439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aai">AAI</keyword>) this Christmas. The airport operator has witnessed its revenues from non-aeronautical operations surge by 52% in the past three years. 
	 
	“The non-aeronautical revenue of AAI due to the effort and utilization of various avenues had increased from Rs 819.10 crores in 2010-11 to Rs 1,241 crores in 2013-14 making a growth of about 52% in 3 years,” said Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Civil Aviation in the Lok Sabha. 
	 Non-aeronautical operations of the AAI include duty-free shops, operating Express Courier terminal as well as Common User Cargo Terminal. “AAI had already introduced various new concepts to increase the non-aeronautical potential like introduction of master concessionaire in the field of food and beverages, <keyword id="1422844" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Duty-Free-Shops">Duty free shops</keyword> and advertisement, Express Courier Terminal and Common User Cargo Terminal,” added Dr Sharma. 
	 The AAI has been aiming to strategically increase its revenues from non-core businesses over the years and has also increased the area allotted for such services by over 10% every year. For instance, the airport operator increased the area allocated for non aeronautical services from 23,119 square meter (sqm) in 2010-11 to 42,996 sqm in 2013-14 at the <keyword id="63145" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chennai-airport">Chennai airport</keyword>. 
	 “Similarly, at <keyword id="47933" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata-airport">Kolkata Airport</keyword>, the area under non-aeronautical services has been increased from 49,668 sqm to 6,00,029 sqm in 2013-14. In case of Trivandrum Airport, the increase in non-aeronautical areas is from 3,217 sqm in the year 2010-11 to 4,029 sqm in the year 2013-14,” stated Dr Sharma.

Authority Of India Records 52% Rise In Revenues

Low-cost carrier <keyword id="6358032" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="spicejet" source="Orion">SpiceJet</keyword> has entered into a full and final settlement with the <keyword id="54875" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="airports-authority-of-india" source="Orion">Airports Authority of India</keyword> (<keyword id="47439" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="aai" source="Orion">AAI</keyword>) and cleared all outstanding principal dues of the airport operator. With this, SpiceJet will no longer remain on "cash and carry" at AAI-run airports across the country and revert to advance payment mechanism for daily flight operations. According to the airline's spokesperson, SpiceJet's ability to clear the pending dues reflects the airline's improved cash flow in recent times. "In another big boost for the airline, AAI will release SpiceJet's Rs 50 crore bank guarantee following the airline clearing all its principal dues. This will result in additional liquidity for the airline," said the airline. SpiceJet has flown with the highest passenger load factor in the Indian skies for a record seven years. Starting April 2015, the airlines has recorded the highest occupancy among all Indian domestic airlines - a feat unparalleled in global aviation. The airline also holds the envious distinction of having flown with a Passenger Load Factor (PLF) of more than 90 per cent for a record 58 consecutive months. The airline's domestic network covers the length and breadth of the country with it operating to 51 domestic destinations. Pioneer of the regional connectivity scheme, SpiceJet is the country's largest regional player helping connect the remotest parts of the country by air. The airline's focus on providing direct flight connectivity to regional hubs not only ensures better connectivity, it also has a cascading effect on tourism and economic activity in the region. Spicejet clears all outstanding principal dues of AAI

The plan of building 50 new airports in different cities may take a backseat as the <keyword id="58151" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="civil-aviation-ministry">Civil Aviation Ministry</keyword> has decided they will be built if they earn return on investment (RoI) of 12%. 
 
The previous Congress party-led Government had earmarked small cities for 50 low cost or no-frills airports. 
 
However, the finance department of the ministry said that the plan will be viable if it gets 12% RoI. 
 
"This will be difficult to achieve for all no-frills airport we have planned. We have told them we cannot build all 50 airports planned with 12% RoI aim - maybe 60% of them can be build, but we need to build the rest 40% too," a top official in the ministry told Economic Times on the condition of anonymity. 
 
Industry experts welcomed the move, saying that many airports are operating without any reason. 
 “Since no airline can be forced to fly to such locations, these airports become an unnecessary white elephant on the books of AAI (<keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword>) or the state government," Amber Dubey, partner &amp; India head (aerospace and defence), KPMG, told the financial daily. 
 
He added that if there was any shortfall in revenues of airport built on the basis of a strategic or social rationale for connectivity, it has be covered under the viability gap funding (VGF) scheme. 
 
Meanwhile, the present Narendra Modi-led Government has begun working on five airports in Hubbali, Belagavi, Kishangarh, Jharsuguda and Tezu.

Airports Authority of India is hiring 63 apprentices across various domains with a stipend of ₹15,000 per month

The Airports Authority of India and operator of Singapore’s <keyword id="875277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Changi-airport">Changi Airport</keyword> have entered into an agreement and the latter has become the first foreign company to manage Indian airports. 
 
Changi has been given contracts for Ahmedabad and Jaipur airports. 
 
There was no bidding for the contract and the decision was made during PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Singapore. However, financial terms haven’t been finalised yet. 
 
AAI wants to compete against global airport majors in bidding for the Goa airport. AAI will likely form a special purpose vehicle to bid for the Rs 3,000 crore project. 
 
As India’s domestic air traffic growing, more and more global players are showing interest in Indian airports. 
 
As per International Air Transport Association data , October’s revenue passenger kilometers rose 17.6% in India's domestic sector. The next best was China, with growth of 12.8%. 
 
Meanwhile, Ahmedabad has a huge traffic mainly from corporate executives, whereas India’s pink city of Jaipur has more foreign and domestic tourists coming in. 
 
PwC had said that India is expected to see an average annual increase in infrastructure spend of 15.4%, amounting to around $14 billion over the next decade.

The <keyword id="54875" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airports-Authority-of-India">Airports Authority of India</keyword> (AAI) today said that for construction of new regional airports and expansion of existing ones over the next seven years, it will require <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=investment">investments </a>to the tune of $12 billion.
 

	The government-run body also plans to hold a meeting with various state governments once the draft of civil <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=aviation+">aviation </a>policy is finalised to discuss airport requirements there going forward, AAI Chairman RK Srivastava told reporters on the sidelines of an aviation conference here.
 <keyword id="113134" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airports-Council-International">Airports Council International</keyword> (ACI) in association with International Civil Aviation Organisation has organised here a two-day conference on the theme "Investing in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Airports">Airports</a>- Economic Oversight and Regulations" to discuss <keyword id="127781" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="sustainable-growth">sustainable growth</keyword> for the airports globally. 

	Srivastava said besides development of new regional airports a number of the existing airports including Pune, Guwahati, Trichy, Jammu, Srinagar and Patna, among others, would soon reach optimum capacity and would have to be expanded to meet the increased demand.
 All this will require an <keyword id="6355120" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="investment">investment</keyword> of $12 billion over the next seven years, Srivastava said. He said that part of these <keyword id="6356305" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="funds">funds</keyword> will come through internal accruals and part of it will be raised through the market. 

	"We will have to go to the market to raise funds from the third year of the seven year period," he said.

$12 billion needed to build new airports, expand existing: AAI

<ul><li>As many as 94 airports out of the 129 airports owned and managed by Airports Authority of India (AAI) were in red in FY 2017-18. </li><li>The situation was similar in the fiscal 2016-17 when AAI reported that 90% of their airports were in loss. </li><li>The revenue of the airports isn’t adequate to balance out their high operating costs. </li></ul><keyword id="457471" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airports-in-India">Airports in India</keyword> seem to be struggling financially for quite some time now. India’s Civil Aviation Minister, <keyword id="6356597" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="suresh-prabhu">Suresh Prabhu</keyword>, said that three-fourths of the airports handled by Airports Authority of India (AAI) were running in loss in fiscal 2017-18.
