A little increase in AQI more than 100 will mean risks for people with sensitive health and as the value increases, the air can affect all people. Beyond 300, the air quality is highly hazardous for all people.

Unchecked factors like inefficient mechanisms to control dust, the burning of paddy crops in neighboring regions like Haryana, and lenient rules for vehicles are set to make a bad problem even worse. In addition, 24 juveniles were also booked under the Juvenile Act for violating the directions. Overall, over 562 cases were registered under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code for disobeying the order. But despite air pollution being the most trending topic of concern for the national capital, people have continued with their regular practices of industrial emission and garbage burning. Along with this, a lot of complaints were related to the vehicular emission, traffic congestion and pollution from the generators. The pollution levels were recorded to be the worse this Monday. The government is working rigorously towards the problem and directed the transport department and traffic police to intensify the checking of polluted vehicles in order to control the pollution levels.

Also, the CPCB has been asked to create a social media account on an immediate basis for the citizens to raise complaints related to pollution issues so as the concerned authorities can take remedial actions at the earliest. The SC accorded the Environment Prevention &amp; Control Authority (EPCA) to take preventive steps under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), which was proposed to tackle air-pollution in Delhi-NCR region when air quality deteriorates. The amicus, referring to the note prepared by the EPCA Chairman, contained the details and photographs of garbage burning in several regions across the region including parts of Dwarka, Mundka and Bawana. The bench also referred to the media reports that stated that people should not go on morning walks due to high levels of pollution in the region. In response to the photographs, the bench asked the Delhi Government and Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd to file their affidavits within the next two days. The Court passed its directives after a note was placed before it by advocate Aparajita Singh, who has been assisting the Court in the air-pollution matters, seeking an urgent corrective plan for the current situation. An AQI between 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe'. An AQI above 500 falls in the 'severe plus' category. The Ballygunge air monitoring station recorded an AQI of 330 at 11 pm, the official said. The AQI at the Anand Bihar station was marginally better at 275, which falls under the 'poor' category, around the same time. A 'poor' AQI means breathing discomfort for most people on prolonged exposure. "We are taking several steps to contain air pollution in Kolkata like sprinkling water at construction sites, stopping movement of over 15-year-old commercial vehicles in the cities of Kolkata and Howrah and banning coal-based ovens in roadside food stalls," the official said.
