NEW DELHI: A reference by Gujarat CM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> to <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> leader <keyword id="51730" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Ahmed-Patel">Ahmed Patel</keyword> as a "good friend" who has stopped taking calls was edited out by Doordarshan when the national broadcaster telecast an interview with Modi on Sunday. 
 
"Ahmedbhai is among the best friends I have in Congress but not now… I had a good friendship with him and would have preferred that it had remained so… but he now runs away from me and doesn't take my calls," Modi said in the interview. 
 
When contacted, Patel told TOI, "This is election time and people say all sorts of things. I would not have liked to comment otherwise but this is part of his by-now familiar devious script, so I do wish to put it on record that to the best of my recollection, I had lunch with him once in 1980s. That was in the knowledge of my leadership. I have clarified this earlier also. I have not had even a cup of tea with him since he became chief minister in 2001." 
 Modi's suggestion that he has been on good terms with Congress chief <keyword id="689" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sonia-Gandhi">Sonia Gandhi</keyword>'s political secretary and the two have even dined at one another's homes is among the bits that DD chose not to telecast, sparking a controversy over the interview being "censored". 
 The Modi campaign beat DD's bid to edit what the national broadcaster considered "sensitive" bits by posting the entire unedited interview on the <keyword id="6356617" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="bjp-leader">BJP leader</keyword>'s website. It is understood that the interview was separately recorded by the Gujarat government. 
 
DD's decision to telecast Modi's interview without any publicity and its editing out of certain remarks was reported by TOI on Thursday. In all, some 20 minutes of the 56-minute interview were not telecast. 
 
Responding to a question why he sought to bait Patel as "mian Ahmed", Modi said the term was a mark of respect and that he affectionately referred to Patel as "babubhai" in private. 
 
 
 
Another bite snipped out of the interview, as reported by TOI, was Modi's reference to Priyanka Gandhi as a "daughter" defending her family, a reference dismissed by Priyanka on Thursday with a curt comment that Rajiv Gandhi was her father. 
 
Asked how he reacted to Priyanka's criticism of him, Modi said, "I don't take it seriously. Any daughter would do the same for brother and her mother… akhir beti, beti hai (after all a daughter is a daughter). I would not mind her saying anything… If she abuses me ten times more, it will still be a case of a daughter being a daughter." 
 
DD director general (news) S M Khan in a statement denied there was any attempt to downplay the interview or deliberately edit it. He said the editing was done for technical reasons. 
 
Contrary to the official statement, sources said responses to several queries including former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf were edited out. 
 
DD anchor Ashok Shrivastav questioned Modi about his disparaging reference to Musharraf as "Mian Musharraf" in a 2002 speech. "No country however powerful has the right to insult my nation or my state… I raised my voice because he (Musharraf) abused us (by raising the Gujarat riots) at the UN platform," Modi said. 
 
The BJP leader said the Congress strategy to align with a possible third front was to keep BJP from coming to power. But he asserted that the days of the "maa-bete ki sarkar (mother-son government)" were numbered. He added that Congress, having initially misread the strength of the BJP campaign, was now trying to ensure that either the NDA did not form a government or if it did, it would be a weak one. 
 
When contacted, Shrivastav refused to comment on the "edits" but social media was on fire with several people demanding the complete interview be uploaded in the interest of transparency. Shrivastav on Thursday tweeted, "Original interview was 56 minutes but I got half an hour chunk. We telecast 34 minutes… Professionally I feel we should have telecast full version." 
 
On the editing of the interview, Shrivastav said he was not the final word on what went on air. "Professionally, I also feel that portion is important shouldn't edited (sic). I am not final authority," he said. He also confirmed that Modi's office had independently recorded the interview and had a copy. 
 
Reacting to TOI's report, DD's Khan said in a statement, "There was no deliberate editing or omission of any portion of interview. Wherever editing was done was for technical reasons and during post production. There was no interference or control from any authority in the entire process."

The three-member panel comprises senior party leaders Ahmed Patel, <keyword id="12587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Priyanka-Gandhi">Priyanka Gandhi</keyword> and K.C. Venugopal. Following the meeting, Pilot stressed that his fight was ideological and not personal. "Since the past few days, some MLAs were in Delhi, there were some issues of the state which we wanted to highlight and I have done that by raising the issues clearly. I have been saying since the beginning that all these things were based on principles. I always thought these things are essential to be raised in the party's interest," he told mediapersons. Pilot also said that he believed that all these issues will be resolved after Sonia Gandhi heard all their concerns and the governance issues that they had raised. He also welcomed the formation of the three-member committee. "I heard a lot of things. I was surprised by a few things that were said. I think we should always maintain restraint and humility. We had formed a government in Rajasthan after five years of hard work," he said. Pilot also said that he didn't want to raise the issues discussed in front of the media. Sachin Pilot says "his fight was ideological and not personal"

After the Narendra Modi interview fiasco, <keyword id="6408304" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="doordarshan">Doordarshan</keyword> has decided to back out from telecasting a docu-drama on <keyword id="6355532" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mahatma-Gandhi">Mahatma Gandhi</keyword>’s assassination as the Prasar Bharati board expressed concerns that “it is likely to be inflammatory in nature.” The programme was to depict <keyword id="102381" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nathuram-Godse">Nathuram Godse</keyword>'s trial. 
 The 52-episode serial was withdrawn by director-producer duo <keyword id="35883" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ketan-mehta">Ketan Mehta</keyword> and <keyword id="126820" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepa-Sahi">Deepa Sahi</keyword>, owing to time constraints. The Prasar Bharati board felt that focusing the programme only on Gandhi's assassination was not a "very good idea.” The Prasar Bharati board had discussed this in its January meeting. 
 
Recently, Prasar Bharati was heavily criticised for editing Narendra Modi’s remarks on Priyanka Gandhi and Ahmed Patel from an interview. Doordarshan had, however, defended itself, saying there was no “deliberate attempt at editing.” 
 
On the Gandhi serial, the board observed, "Considering that the subject matter spans a relatively short period in the life of Mahatma Gandhi, the proposed number of episodes (52) appears to be on the higher side and could be judiciously pruned. Since the material on the trial of Nathuram Godse is likely to be inflammatory in nature, focusing the programme on the trial is avoidable... It was felt that the theme of the proposed programme could be woven around the various events that happened during the last days of Mahatma Gandhi, including Independence, Partition, the Noakhali tragedy, etc." 
 The board also recommended setting up a committee, including DD director general <keyword id="203386" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tripurari-Sharan">Tripurari Sharan</keyword> and part-time board members <keyword id="33011" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Muzaffar-Ali">Muzaffar Ali</keyword> and Prema Cariappa. "The committee may co-opt any other subject expert, if so required. The committee may also like to interact with Ketan Mehta on the matter while arriving at the final decision," the minutes of the meeting stated. 
 
"There were certain concerns raised by the board. But the proposal was withdrawn by Ketan Mehta, citing his inability to take it further. He later told me he thought the subject may have a better prospect as a film," said Sharan. 
 
Maya Movies’ co-founder Deepa Sahi said, "We have withdrawn from the project for the time being due to time constraints and informed DD." 
 
Godse was executed following a year-long trial. Recently, a play called Mee Nathuram Godse Boltoy was also banned to avoid controversy.

This time the bunch of young standup comedians have a made video on net neutrality. Dipping their biscuits on the steaming morning tea, the viewers got an explained idea on the benefits of net neutrality. 
As per a news report in The Economic Times, the video explaining net neutrality, which was vastly shared by the netizens including Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan ended up being removed from Facebook due to unusually high activity. Though the takedown was temporary, this sparked a huge uproar in the social media. 
 
Indian telecom sector is undergoing a ‘to be or not to be’ internal conflict on net neutrality. Several telecom operators are pitching to price Internet usage according to their wish, which would mean the websites paying the operator would load fast where as the others suffer slow bandwidth. While some countries in the world including the USA have supported net neutrality, India is still to take a call on it. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is asking for opinions from commoners on the same at <a href="http://www.savetheinternet.in">www.savetheinternet.in</a>. 
 
AIB’s video brought in comparison with an entry to a children’s park where kids are charged for each ride they take. As per the financial daily, the video went viral and helped the already growing online movement called "Save the Internet", and picked up steam as more startups, politicians, actors and other public figures came on board over the weekend. As the takedown of the video was noticed in Facebook by AIB members, the social networking website acted swiftly to restore it after several complaints surfaced. "Can you check now? there was a bug and it is fixed. The post should be visible again," Facebook's growth manager Abhishek Nag tweeted in response to a query by AIB group member Gursimran Khamba. 
 
The ET has reported, Shiv Sena Youth wing President Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday urged the TRAI chairman to halt the move to kill OTT services, which includes popular apps such as Whatsapp, Viber, Skype and so on, pointing out that access to Internet "cannot be governed by the commerce of the telecom operator, who should be rather focusing on bettering the services people pay for". The paper has drawn widespread flak from net and free speech activists, who feel it favours the interests of telecom companies, and have been asking people to join the movement to "Save the Internet" from telecom operators who want greater control over their network. 
 
On Sunday, several actors, such as Farhan Akhtar, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and Siddharth Malhotra tweeted about net neutrality and save the Internet. Several political figures including Ajay Maken, Ahmed Patel, Sanjay Jha also tweeted in support of net neutrality.

The farmers in question had allegedly infringed the corporation’s patent by growing a type of potato - FC5 which are used in the production of Lay’s chips. Bad timing It appears that Pepsi chose the wrong time to pick a fight with Indian farmers. India is a popular market for the company’s products and the backlash was severe. Not only were the PR machines lapping up the “David vs Goliath” narrative, but the lawsuit provided a strong opportunity for India’s campaigning politicians to show their support to farmers, who are considered a strong vote bank. Threats of <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/pepsico-gujarat-farmer-dispute-turns-political-after-leaders-take-to-twitters/articleshow/69080125.cms">a boycott of Pepsi products</a> came from Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, the spokesperson of the BJP’s Delhi unit, unless the lawsuit was withdrawn swiftly. The Bhartiya Kisan Sangh and Swadesh Jagran Manch, both affiliates of the RSS, both rallied against PepsiCo, with the former calling on the government to <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/economy/agri-business/pepsico-row-rss-affiliate-bats-for-farmers-seed-rights/article26995166.ece">establish the farmers’ rights </a>to grow the potato and the latter accusing the company of <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/current/corporate/pepsico-lays-potato-chips-bjp-swadeshi-jagran-manch--sjm--gujarat-ashwani-mahajan/story/341797.html">“coercing farmers”</a> through it settlement offer.
