Undoubtedly, the Taj continues to remain a hot favourite, and the foreign visitors in the hundreds already here as early as 6 a.m, clearly means they have spent the night in Agra hotels. Hoteliers say night stay has declined, but there seems no proof of this fear. The monsoon rains brought down the air pollution level in the vicinity of the Taj in September and the Yamuna, too, was flowing full at the rear. "Foreign tourists are simply mesmerised by the charm of the Taj Mahal, and spend hours at the monument," said a guide escorting a group from Italy. However, in October the smog started engulfing the whole city reducing visibility in the morning. But this has not deterred tourists from visiting the Mughal monuments. "Holidays are a time for students' groups from all over India to visit the Taj Mahal and other historical monuments in Agra. Entry to children below 15 years remains free." Tourism organisations in the city have been blaming government agencies for not maintaining the roads and civic amenities. This generates a lot of negativity about tourism in Agra. "The police has been rather indifferent to the problems tourists face from unauthorised guides called 'Lapkas', who harass and pester the tourists everywhere." Agra tourism industry on a boom, despite pollution and war cries

The district administration on Thursday evening announced that 10 teams will collect blood samples from more than a thousand people from 45 spots in the city. CMO R.C. Pande said there was no need for fear and people should volunteer to give samples to test the anti-body level in the city. The collected samples will be sent to the ICMR. The sero-survey is being conducted in 11 towns of Uttar Pradesh. An official of the health department indicated that the postponed vaccine trials could begin from September 20 at the S.N. Medical College. Meanwhile, Agra reported an alarming number of 75 fresh Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours. With one more death, the number of deaths now stands at 108. The neighbouring districts of Mathura reported 53, Firozabad 40, Mainpuri 53, Etah 17 and Kasganj 11. The surge in numbers has been explained by the health department as the result of an increasing number of samples being daily collected. As COVID-19 cases spike, sero survey begins in Agra

A group of eight fighter jets will descend on Agra-Lucknow expressway on the day of its grand opening on November 21, which is also the eve of party supremo <keyword id="6357168" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mulayam-Singh-Yadav">Mulayam Singh Yadav</keyword>'s 78th birthday .The aircraft will then take off and do aerobatics in the skies. 
 UP expressways industrial development authority (UPEIDA) CEO <keyword id="3976511" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navneet-Sehgal">Navneet Sehgal</keyword> told TOI, “All arrangements have been made to conduct the grand inauguration.A group of eight fighter jets will land and then take off from the newly-constructed expressway .“ 
 The 302-km expressway , which is chief minister <keyword id="6355031" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Akhilesh-Yadav">Akhilesh Yadav</keyword>'s dream project, has been completed in a record time of 22 months and has cost Rs 13,200 crore. It will get operational by December. The longest expressway in the country is currently a six-lane project, expandable up to eight lanes. 
 The expressway which will pass through Unnao, Kannauj, Etawah, Mainpuri and <keyword id="55697" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Firozabad">Firozabad</keyword>, will reduce the travel time between <keyword id="6356295" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Agra">Agra</keyword> and Lucknow to just four hours, nearly half of what it takes now. Two farm mandis, a logistics hub, an IT City and a residential town are planned to be built along the expressway. 
 <keyword id="4855" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sehgal">Sehgal</keyword> along with Air <keyword id="3844676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="vicemarshal-rajesh-issar">ViceMarshal Rajesh Issar</keyword> and other senior officers of <keyword id="6705798" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Central-Air-Command">Central Air Command</keyword> inspected the expressway stretch in <keyword id="3844677" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bangarmau-of-unnao">Bangarmau of Unnao</keyword> district on Saturday . 
 “Indian <keyword id="6354954" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Air-Force">Air Force</keyword> planned the special air show as a tribute to the rapid completion of the expressway before its 26-month deadline,“ Sehgal said. The expressway was planned and constructed in a way that in the case of emergency or war, <keyword id="6355075" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IAF">IAF</keyword> could land its fighter planes using the road as a runway.

Now, the government of Uttar Pradesh along with <a href="https://www.unenvironment.org/news-and-stories/press-release/city-taj-mahal-agra-launches-action-plan-combat-air-pollution">UN Environment</a>, is set to implement a comprehensive action plan to control air pollution, which will also protect the Taj Mahal. The city is home to Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. This majestic monument came under dire stress as Agra became the eighth most polluted city in the world. The beautiful white marble facade of Taj Mahal is <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-pollution-india-tajmahal/pollution-turns-indias-white-marble-taj-mahal-yellow-and-green-idUSKCN1IN01S">reportedly</a> turning yellow and green, facing discolouration, due to air pollution. Not just that, the huge <a href="https://www.latimes.com/world/asia/la-fg-india-taj-mahal-20180522-story.html">mounds</a> of garbage lying on the banks of Yamuna where the historic monument is located, has led to an infestation of insects around the Taj Mahal. These factors have turned tourists wary of visiting the monument. Otherwise, it is known to draw interesting onlookers in hoards, from around the world. The extensive smog which covers the tomb that dates back to the 17th century, during winters is not helping either. An action plan Now, the state government along with the UN Environment rolled out the action plan which will now control –vehicle emissions, crop residue, garbage and municipal solid waste burning along with industrial emissions. Moreover, the government of Uttar Pradesh now plans to deploy 650 electric buses. A large number of international organizations are lending a hand too. “To help deal with Agra’s mounting plastic waste, Massive Fund proposed a project of $30 million under the Alliance to End Plastic, to eliminate more than 90 percent of plastic waste from Agra. Waste management firm Geocycle further proposed to pilot a technology to clean up the Yamuna river in Agra. Kanoria Industries plans to invest ₹150 billion for sustainability related activities in the city,” stated the report by UN Environment.
