Suspense doesn't create the desired impact either,” Adarsh said. Whereas another film critic Sumit Kadel said Malang is a torment watch. “Film has got no thrills, has a dead slow predictable screenplay, shoddy script and mediocre performance by the star cast. Mohit Suri Direction is deplorable. Audience ko Paka dena inka maza aur nasha hai, Watch at your own Risk,” Kadel said. The first day collection has made Malang Aditya Kapoor’s highest opening film ever. Mohit Suri’s Malang earns over ₹15 crore and bad reviews in two days

But the one 90s icon that needs no formal introduction is Anil – ‘My Name Is Lakhan’ – Kapoor. From serenading Madhuri Dixit in the iconic Dhak Dhak song in Beta in 1992, Kapoor’s joie de vivre makes him the rightful successor of the evergreen Jitendra, who was not only nicknamed the Jumping Jack after his high-octane energy but also endorsed vitality pills called 30 Plus for decades. Kapoor’s performance in the Night Manager as the all powerful arms dealer Shelly Rungta is about perfect paradoxes – in one instant he charms birds or should we say birdies and in the next instant effortlessly kills with his bare hands (and a little help of a writing instrument) and yet there isn’t a spot of blood on his bespoke cream suit. He pulls off the over the top scenes with the same conviction as he played the role of an autistic man in Eeshwar. When it comes to dialogue delivery and style, there is none that even comes close to <keyword id="6354700" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="anil-kapoor" source="Orion">Anil Kapoor</keyword>. A paisa vasool moment in the mini series is when AK, in his laconic drawl, advises Aditya Roy Kapur, who essays the role of a soldier/hotel manager turned reluctant spy, to never know the real man behind the expensive suit. Remakes are generally tough acts to follow, especially if the original’s cast toplines Tom Hiddleston, Olivia Colman, Hugh Laurie, Elizabeth Debicki and is directed by Oscar winner Susanne Bier. Attempting remakes of popular shows or movies is not for the faint hearted, look no further than last year’s epic disaster Lal Singh Chaddha – a remake of the iconic Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump. But Anil Kapoor has managed to duck this trend not once but twice. Kapoor was a part of another global series called 24 and played the lead character in its Hindi avatar too. Both mini series have enthralled audiences primarily because of the 66-year old actor, who still looks convincing as an eight-year old child’s father. Kapoor eases in viewers with his easygoing charm in the first part of the series, where he is mostly seen enjoying the high life with his arm candy Kaveri (Sobhita Dhulipala) in his yacht, private jets and mansions. He is the classic modern-day archetype of Ravan, who also lives in Lanka. As the father of Rhea and Sonam Kapoor, much loved fashion icons, Anil Kapoor does not disappoint. In fact, he has his fashion chops in place alright with his bespoke suits and carefully crushed linen shirts. But there’s more to the concluding part of the mini series than Anil Kapoor’s sartorial style. Kapoor completely dominates the second part of the Hindi remake of the Night Manager with his menacing presence. Kapoor dominates not just the screen. There’s something particularly appealing about the bad boys of spy thrillers, but he upstages Aditya Roy Kapur, who is the undercover agent Shaan Sengupta inside Shelly Rungta’s Golden Lanka. Kapur is the good guy who pretends to go rogue as he works with RAW agent Tillotama Shome to uncover Shelly’s unholy arms business that spreads from West Asia through Myanmar and Bangladesh. The second part of the series circles back to Dhaka, where it all began with the death of Safina, a minor girl trapped in a marriage with an underworld don. The storytelling of the Hindi Night Manager is by and large straight out of the playbook of any spy thriller, barring some underwhelming performances. The tomfoolery by the two RAW agents are cringe-worthy and not binge worthy. The lean and mean avatar of Aditya Roy Kapur is welcome after his movie Gumraah. ARK fails to charm or impress with his revenge but Kapoor does both in equal measure as the villain. Give us bad boys any day.

Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, with its core theme as multiple reflections of style is the perfect association. 
Whereas Shantanu &amp; Nikhil’s was a strong fusion among the past, present and the future. The collection is in every way rebellious and is pure innovative fashion.

Sonam Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor were on a ‘ramp’age at the Blenders’ Pride Fashion Tour in Gurgaon

The movie showed them as two fate-crossed lovers, who unite to get tragically separated, but the crackling chemistry between the two actors made news all around, and the two have been rumoured (or wished for) to be a real-life couple ever since. 
 
However, their fans were not getting a chance to see the two of them together on the screen, given that both of them got busy with their respective careers, until now that is.

In the poster shared by Karan Johar, Shraddha is seen embracing Aditya from the back, while both of them are looking completely in love. 
 
The film is the Hindi remake of OK Kanmani, the 2015 Tamil romantic movie directed by Mani Ratnam. It is to be directed by Shaad Ali, while having its lyrics penned by Gulzar; the music will be composed by AR Rahman, who had also given the music for the original Tamil film.

Starring <keyword id="6354850" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Katrina-Kaif">Katrina Kaif</keyword> and <keyword id="458611" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aditya-Roy-Kapur">Aditya Roy Kapur</keyword> in the main lead, the movie is based in Kashmir. 
 Telling the tale of a Kashmiri artist Noor, played by Kapur, who falls in love with Firdaus (a red-haired Kaif) before discovering that there is more to her than what meets the eyes. Daughter of Begum (played by <keyword id="6358125" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tabu">Tabu</keyword>), she is not as easy to get as one would think, and how and why the conflict of Kashmir plays its part in the movie is what could make it a cinematographic gem, thanks to the surreal beauty of Kashmir. 
 
The trailer starts with Kapur narrating how his younger self fell in love with Firdaus when they were kids. Noor is an upcoming artist, supported well by his lady love who wants him to be presentable and gets disappointed when he comes to an exhibition wearing tattered shoes. 
 
Enters Begum, the ravishing Tabu, also sporting red hair, who has had some issues in her past love life, which explains why she tries to keep her daughter away from Noor. But just as we start to think that it’s another movie in which the lead pair would overcome their financial diversity and their parents’ disapproval, Noor can be seen saying this to Firdaus: 
 
Doodh maangoge to kheer denge, Kashmir maangoge to cheer denge. 
 
This is when Kashmir, and the long-standing conflict that it has with the Indian government, takes a character of her own in this movie. Seen with Kaif in this scene is Rahul Bhat, who was last seen in Ugly. 
 
How maturely Kapoor has handled the sensitive topic, and how beautifully has he been able to showcase Kashmir in its true beauty is what makes the movie worth the wait. The music is binding, and as per the cinematography, let’s just say that you can’t take a bad picture in Kashmir. 
 
As much as we love Tabu, we can never take it off our mind that the role was first offered to Rekha, who could have added a magnificent stroke of her own to this character. Not that Tabu won’t do justice to it; she has proved her mettle time and again and continues to be a respected actor, but there is something about this character that Rekha comes to our mind on its own, and we can’t help but wonder how beautiful she would have looked as Begum Hazrat.

The previous record was held by Chennai Express (3,700 screens at home and 700 screens abroad).

That Entered Rs 100 Crore Club In 2013

 This Friday, it was the clash of two biggies at the <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>: <keyword id="1904667" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Daawat-E-Ishq">Daawat-E-Ishq</keyword> and <keyword id="1089498" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Khoobsurat">Khoobsurat</keyword>. 
 
Directed by Habib Faisal of Ishaqzaade and Do Dooni Chaar fame, Daawat-E-Ishq has <keyword id="467200" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aditya-Roy-Kapoor">Aditya Roy Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="562349" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Parineeti-Chopra">Parineeti Chopra</keyword> in the lead. Though they’ve been paired together for the first time, but the pairing looks fresh and cute on screen. The movie was expected to woo the audience and get off to a decent start, but it started on a slow note. According to <a href="http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/box-office/special-features/id/389">Bollywood Hungama</a>, this movie managed to collect only Rs 3.72 crore on its first Friday. The business improved a little on Saturday and Sunday; the movie collected Rs 13.6 crore over the weekend (collecting Rs 4.35 crore on Saturday and Rs 5.53 crore on Sunday). The movie also managed to gather about Rs 5.54 crore from overseas markets, which took the total weekend collections to Rs 19.14 crore. 
 
Khoobsurat on the other hand is loosely based on the old classic, Rekha starrer movie with the same name. With this movie, Pakistani actor <keyword id="2358880" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fawad-Khan">Fawad Khan</keyword> has made his <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> debut opposite <keyword id="710" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sonam-Kapoor">Sonam Kapoor</keyword>. This new Khan already had some fans before the movie hit the cinema—all thanks to his Television serial and telefilm that were aired recently on Zindagi channel. Khoobsurat is made on an estimated budget of Rs 30 crore and is the first Bollywood movie to be released under the Disney brand name. Like Daawat-E-Ishq, this movie also had a slow start. It managed to collect Rs 3.72 crore on its first day says <a href="http://www.bollywoodhungama.com/box-office/special-features/id/388">Bollywood Hungama</a>. On Saturday and Sunday Khoobsurat managed to register collections worth Rs 3.74 and Rs 5.05 crore respectively. International collections helped the movie to reach Rs 18.43 crore on its first weekend. 
 
In the meantime, last week’s release Finding Fanny staring Deepika Padukone has collected a total of Rs 31.14 crore in the last 10 days. Priyanka Chopra’s biopic Mary Kom is still going strong and has collected Rs 56.5 crore so far. (Figures till Sunday, September 21) 
 
Considering that no other big movie is getting released next week, both Daawat-E-Ishq and Khoobsurat have a fair chance of redeeming themselves—but it seems very bleak at the moment. We are anxiously waiting for October 2, 2014, when Hrithik Roshan’s Bang Bang will take on Shahid Kapoor’s Haider. Both movies seem to offer something fresh and considering that they are releasing on a long weekend, they are expected to have a great opening at the box office.

Crime Master Gogo is back, this time for a Disney+ Hotstar campaign

On September 19, two power packed movies will be clashing at the box office. On one hand, there is a <keyword id="1904667" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Daawat-E-Ishq">Daawat-E-Ishq</keyword> starring <keyword id="562349" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Parineeti-Chopra">Parineeti Chopra</keyword> and Aditya Roy Kapoor, while on the other hand, it is <keyword id="1089498" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Khoobsurat">Khoobsurat</keyword>, a remake of 1980s Rekha starrer super-hit movie of the same name. 
 
Khoobsurat is a rom-com that looks to be different from the original movie. It’s also the debut movie for Fawad Khan, a popular Pakistani actor. The new Khan on the block has become the talk of the town because of his good looks and deep husky voice. 
 This movie is produced by Rhea Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and <keyword id="105230" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Siddharth-Roy-Kapur">Siddharth Roy Kapur</keyword>. As it is the first <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> film to be released under the Disney brand name, so people have high expectations from Khoobsurat, however the buzz for the flick is not too strong. 
 
We are expecting a 20-30% occupancy for Khoobsurat and there might be a chance of the movie picking up over the weekend due to positive word of mouth. 
 
Coming over to Daawat-E-Ishq, the pairing of the movie looks interesting. Both Parineeti and Aditya have had a good track record on the box office. Aditya Roy Kapoor was last seen in Aashiqui 2 and Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, and both the movies got stupendous response on the box office. The same is also true for Parineeti, whose last two movies were Shuddh Desi Romance and Hasee Toh Phasee. However, things are not looking too bright for this movie either. We are hoping for a 30% occupancy for this movie, too. 
 
Amongst Daawat-E-Ishq and Khoobsurat, the former seems to have a better chance but we sure hope that both the movies manage to do a good business in the coming weeks.

She shared the screen space with Taaha Shah and Ali Zafar. The film was the first production venture of Y-Films, Yash Raj Films’ division for making youth-centric films. Although the film went unnoticed, Shraddha’s performance was appreciated by critics. 
 
3. After taking a year-long break, the young Kapoor lass returned to the screens with the musical romantic saga Aashiqui 2. The movie, which also had Aditya Roy Kapur, was highly successful and Shraddha Kapoor was noticed for her good looks as well as acting prowess. 
 
4. Next in line for the lady was a guest role in Dharma Productions’ Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, in which she played Vasudha, a Tamilian girl in love with a Sikh boy. The lead pair of the movie was Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor, and Shraddha’s role was limited to a few scenes. 
 
5. Came 2014 and Shraddha was seen as Ayesha in another musical romantic thriller Ek Villain. Her role was that of a young girl who falls in love with a goon and transforms him into a family man, only to be killed by a psychopath killer. Her role in the movie was limited to a few flashback scenes other than some songs, given the fact that her character gets killed in the first 15 minutes. 
 
6. Towards the end of 2014, we saw the pretty lady doing a role in Haider, for ace director Vishal Bhardwaj. She portrayed the role of Arshiya, a young Kashmiri journalist in love with the main lead, played by Shahid Kapoor. Her performance and hard work in the movie to get into the skin of a Kashmiri girl were appreciated. 
 
7. She also did an item number, called Dance Basanti, in the movie Ungli.

9. She would also began shooting for Rock On 2, the sequel to Rock On!!, which released in 2008. The movie would also stars Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli and would be shot in Shillong. 
 
10. Other than acting, Shraddha Kapoor also has a passion for singing, given her relations with Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle, two of India’s most reputed singers. Shraddha’s mother Shivangi Kapoor is the daughter of Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle’s paternal aunt. Shivangi herself is a trained singer, and Shraddha has surely got her singing skills from her. This is the view held by five brokerage firms — ICICI Securities/Direct, Motilal Oswal, Prabhudas Lilladher and ShareKhan. They believe that good movies can help them replicate the March success which came with superhits like the controversial Kashmir Files; Rajamouli’s RRR, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama Gangubai Kathiawadi, followed up by KGF 2 in April. “They witnessed a March — which was the best ever in the history, led by superlative performances of movies,” ICICI Direct said in its views on PVR and INOX both. The March footfalls made up for half of the Jan-March quarters footfalls in theaters. But both these companies need more than a good month to turn things around. A strong recovery in footfalls and sales of these listed theatre companies will be driven by ‘strong content slate lines’, as per ICICI Direct. A lot of high profile releases also fell flat in the months ahead of March. There was a big buzz around Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone-starrer 83 — which was based on the 1983 cricket world cup that India won. However, it disappointed movie distributors as it was declared a theatrical flop. Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar too did not live up to its expectations. Kangana Ranaut’s Dhakkad, Akshay Kumar’s Bachchan Pandey, Prabhas’ Radhe Shyam too failed to impress the audiences. Apart from 83, all the other movies were released after India had overcome the third Covid-19 wave. Pushpa and Spider Man in the Hindi belt — both released in December along with 83 — were among the few movies that managed to do well despite Omicron fears. <ul><li>The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across over 350 properties in 110 cities in the country.</li><li>The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years.</li><li>The merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, but needs good content.</li></ul>After the merger of two <keyword id="16783584" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="multiplex-chains-PVR-and-Inox-Leisure" source="Orion">multiplex chains PVR and Inox Leisure</keyword> this year, the merged entity has become a behemoth in the country, and fifth largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count. While the merger was announced last March, the record date for the scheme of amalgamation between the two multiplex operators happened in February 2023. The combined entity will start trading with the name PVR-INOX on exchanges in March 2023 and their combined financials would be reported from 4QFY23. The multiplex behemoth now owns more than 1,650 screens across 350 properties, in 110 cities. “PVR-INOX now controls 18% screen share (43% share in multiplex screens in India) and 30% box-office share (over 50% share of multiplex box office). The merged entity commands the highest multiplex market share in all key regions of India. PVR-INOX would become the fifth-largest listed multiplex chain globally by screen count with the highest number of admissions per screen (around 127,000 admissions/screen in 2019),” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. The combined entity aims to open 180-200 screens per year, across formats, in the next two years. “Capex per year would be ₹8-8.5 billion (₹800-850 crore). Over 40% new screen openings will come from the South as it remains underpenetrated,” said the report. While merged entity gains the lion’s share, real issue still remains poor content While the merged entity can definitely achieve bigger goals, analysts believe the real issue still remains poor content leading to flop movies on screen. “The management has guided for annual synergy benefits of ₹2.25 billion (₹225 crore) at the EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) level in the next 12-24 months,” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. Analysts say that the merged entity has no real competitor and should remain focused on strengthening its position at the cost of single-screen theatres and smaller chains. Yet, there are challenges that all multiplexes will face bringing in the mega footfalls. For one, the Hindi cinema industry itself is facing the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/news/its-not-bollywood-films-its-the-superstars-that-people-seem-to-be-tired-of/articleshow/92382077.cms">shifting trend and migration of audiences to South movies</a> which captured audiences with larger-than-life characters. Rapid adoption of OTT, proliferation of social media and an active ‘Boycott Bollywood’ campaign and higher ticket prices have impacted footfalls in theatres, say analysts at Emkay Global. “While focus of the merged entity now shifts to realising synergies, the crucial issue of footfall recovery remains moot. Post-Covid, we have witnessed a clear dichotomy in box-office performance, with a high proportion of movies turning out to be duds; we believe the main culprit is the sub-par content quality, punctured by the weak critic and audience reviews,” said a report by Emkay Global. Not star power, alone It’s because of the increasing Southern push that <keyword id="4568700" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PVR-INOX" source="Orion">PVR Inox</keyword> are planning to boost the addition of new cinemas there. “With Bollywood content not up to the mark, footfalls have not seen a meaningful uptick post Covid. Only select movies with differentiated offerings have managed to taste success at the box office. As we have emphasised in the past too, Bollywood’s recovery is critical to box-office collections, with regional and Hollywood contribution being only sporadic in nature,” said the report. Bollywood continues to witness poor movie performance with most movies including Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Goodbye and Uunchai, Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ranveer Singh’s Cirkus not meeting expectations except for Drishyam 2 and Pathaan. “Going ahead too, we believe that star power alone cannot drive collections, if there is no differentiating factor in the movie,” said the Emkay Global report. In Q3 FY23, only one Bollywood movie i.e Drishyam 2 managed to break the ₹100 crore box office barrier. “CY22 has been one of the worst years for Bollywood, with very few movies finding traction. A mere 7% of the major movies that were released in the CY21/22 managed to recover their investment and yielded some profit. Prior to Covid, this was close to 30%, with more than 40% of movies doing well in CY19,” said a report by Emkay. While Inox-PVR have a bigger screen presence, they need what it takes to bring in audiences — better movies, bigger hits from Bollywood and Hollywood alike – in addition to South superhits.
