Adani-Paytm Deal: Both One97 Communications and Adani Group deny reports as ‘baseless’ and ‘speculative’

Millions of retail investors wanted a part of the boom in Asia’s best performing stock market, and a lot of IPOs benefited from the frenzy. That kind of unbridled enthusiasm is unlikely in 2022, according to Ajay Saraf, head of investment banking and institutional equities at ICICI Securities in an interview to Business Insider. Saraf is not alone. Srinivas Rao Ravuri, chief investment officer at PGIM India Mutual Fund also <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/daily-voice-2022-would-be-a-challenging-year-for-investors-and-companies-planning-ipos-says-srinivas-rao-ravuri-of-pgim-india-mf-7856261.html">reportedly</a> believes that 2022 would be a challenging year for investors and companies planning IPOs. But that’s not entirely a bad thing. If the cautious mood makes good companies, who need to raise money, tone down the pricing it may leave more profit on the table for small investors. global interest rates, tapering, central bank prioritising inflation over growth and increasing interest rate earlier than expected, which might make the market volatile and IPOs may not be as smooth and great as 2021,” said Saraf. If the market mood is uncertain, then the companies planning IPOs are likely to be less confident in seeking high valuations. Startups like <keyword id="143842" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mobikwik" source="Orion">Mobikwik</keyword> are already waiting patiently before they launch the IPO to get the best price. Founder Upasana Taku told Business Insider that she is <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/mobikwik-founder-says-they-are-not-selling-any-shares-in-the-ipo/articleshow/88392998.cms">waiting for the market conditions to improve</a> even though she has the SEBI approval to launch the IPO. Legendary investor Warren Buffet has said in the past that he has never invested in an IPO. “The idea of saying the best place in the world where I can put money is something where all the selling, and their commissions are higher, the animal spirits are rising, that’s going to be better than a thousand other things I can where there is no similar selling enthusiasm, and the desire to get the deal done and earn some commissions. That’s the best thing to buy in a single day?,” Buffett <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2019/05/06/warren-buffett-on-why-hes-never-bought-an-ipo.html">asked in an interview</a> in May 2019. In 2022, the animal spirits will be lower i.e. the emotional trigger for investments will be contained and therefore the valuations may be cheaper. “Valuation will become a bit more in favour of investors and that is the trend which we will see (next year),” said Saraf. If the IPOs are priced cheaper, it is likely that the headroom for profit is higher for investors, particularly for those who invest for the longer term. While this is general wisdom, it may so happen that the excitement may be lesser for some companies and higher for others. “Consumer tech and BFSI will lead the overall IPOs in terms of sector concentration in 2022,” said Saraf. The IPO excitement may be softer in 2022 but that can be a good thing for investors

The rupee slipped 2 <keyword id="20045456" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="paise" source="keywords">paise</keyword> to 83.42 against the <keyword id="19949640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-dollar" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="US dollar" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="US dollar">US dollar</keyword> in early trade on Thursday, tracking the outflow of foreign capital amid volatile domestic equity markets. <keyword id="20024982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Forex-traders" source="keywords">Forex traders</keyword> said a strong American currency also weighed on the local unit even as retreating <keyword id="20024983" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crude-oil-prices" source="keywords">crude oil prices</keyword> capped the rupee's sharp fall. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.42 and slipped further to 83.44. It soon recovered to trade at 83.42 against the greenback, registering a loss of 2 paise from its previous closing level. On Wednesday, the rupee plunged 22 paise to close at 83.40 against the US dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 105.10, higher 0.06 per cent. Analysts attributed the higher dollar index to the rising US Treasury yield amid the hawkish stance of the US Federal Reserve. Also, they said that market participants will closely monitor the US GDP data for the first quarter (second estimate), weekly job reports and pending home sales numbers to be released later in the day. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.05 per cent to USD 83.56 per barrel. On the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 227.31 points, or 0.31 per cent lower at 74,275.59 points. The broader NSE Nifty fell 62.20 points or 0.27 per cent to 22,642.50 points in initial trade. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Wednesday, selling shares worth Rs 5,841.84 crore, according to exchange data. Having beating him a few times in online and faster versions of the game and after losing to him in the finale of the last World Cup, Praggnanandhaa finally got past the home favourite in what would be known as a clear classical triumph. The middle game saw Magnus' king stuck in the centre and the Indian super-talent capitalised with some deft manoeuvres after the minor pieces were off the board. Eventually, the King's vulnerability came to question as Praggnanandhaa posed some dangerous checkmate threats. The game lasted just 37 moves. Caruana outclassed Liren out of an Italian opening game. Launching the offensive on the king side the American, who had lost the first two rounds under Armageddon, he sacrificed two minor pieces for a rook to rip apart black's King side and another exchange sacrifice soon sealed the game in his favour. In the other game of the day, Nakamura proved superior as white against Alireza in the USD 1,60,000 prize money event. The rules were announced on August 1, 2023 and were scheduled to come into effect from October 1, 2023. However, this was delayed by two months and is now coming into effect. The new SIM card rules are aimed at dealing with frauds such as the<a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/news/delhi-woman-loses-50-lakh-in-sim-swap-scam-heres-how-you-can-stay-safe/articleshow/104745898.cms"> SIM swap scam</a>, fake SIMs and other online frauds. The new SIM card rules have been framed around issuance of new SIM cards. Here’s everything you need to know about the new SIM card rules: <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="E-KYC" comment="subhead" text="E-KYC">E-KYC</cmsannotation> E-KYC or digital KYC has been made mandatory, for both new SIM cards and for those looking to get a SIM of their existing number. This means that you can no longer just give a copy of your ID proof to get a SIM card. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Bulk SIM cards" comment="subhead" text="Bulk SIM cards">Bulk SIM cards</cmsannotation> The new rules also impose restrictions on the issuance of bulk SIM cards. While individuals with businesses will still be able to procure bulk SIMs, regular users will be restricted to getting up to nine SIMs on a single ID. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Re-issuance of inactive SIM" comment="subhead" text="Re-issuance of inactive SIM">Re-issuance of inactive SIM</cmsannotation> SIM cards that have been deactivated cannot be re-issued for a period of 90 days, allowing ample time for users to get them re-activated, without having to worry about the SIM being issued to someone else. Telecom operators will be required to register franchisees, distributors and point-of-sale (PoS) agents to prevent issuance of SIM cards to suspicious individuals.
