The programme is aimed to help women founders address challenges that are unique to their experience, including fundraising, hiring and many others. The inaugural batch of Google for <keyword id="8826137" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Startups-Accelerator" source="Orion">Startups Accelerator</keyword> - India Women Founders programme will accept up to 20 women-founded/ co-founded startups in India, including startups at the minimum viable product stage, and support them through a three-month programme. The programme will place special focus on areas like access to networks, access to capital, hiring challenges, mentorship and many others which, for a variety of social reasons and low representation, prove challenging for female founders. In addition to these, the curriculum will include workshops and support around AI/ML, Cloud, UX, android, web, product strategy and growth, as well as provide access to a global community of women founders. India is the world's third largest startup capital, trailing only the US and China. It boasts over a 100 unicorns with 22 getting added to the list just in 2022, spanning verticals such as e-commerce, healthtech, fintech and many others. However, only 15 per cent of these <keyword id="3357129" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-unicorns" source="Orion">Indian unicorns</keyword> have one or more women founders. "The new programme is part of a larger effort by Google towards improving the representation of women across different sections of India's digitally-trained workforce, be it entrepreneurship, professionals looking to upskill or young graduates seeking a head start on their career, with the ultimate objective of making technology universally relevant and helpful," the tech giant wrote in a blogpost. Google to launch accelerator programme for women entrepreneurs in India

Facebook on Thursday announced 15 participants from <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> for its Community Accelerator Programme that will help select community leaders with training, mentorship and funding for an initiative that extends their community's impact. This year, the social network looks forward to awarding up to $40,000 per community through its implementation partner T-hub in India. Facebook picks 15 Indian online communities for accelerator programme

New Delhi, Feb 19 () IT services firm Tech Mahindra on Wednesday announced on Wednesday the launch of T-Block Accelerator, an accelerator programme for Telangana Blockchain District. The programme has been launched in partnership with the Telangana government and innovation management firm IBC Media. The launch of T-Block is a step in continuation of the Telangana government's endeavour to make Telangana as the 'Blockchain Capital of the World', a statement said. A pact had been signed between the Government of Telangana and Tech Mahindra to this effect in 2018, it added. "This initiative is aimed at start-ups that have a strong blockchain use-case, thereby accelerating the start-up growth and therein contributing to the growth of the overall industry," the statement said. Blockchains can broadly be defined as a new type of network infrastructure (a way to organise how information and value moves around on the internet) that create "trust" in networks by introducing distributed verifiability, auditability, and consensus. Blockchain is seen as a technology with the potential to transform almost all industries and economies. Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary (information technology, electronics and communications department) in the Government of Telangana, said the accelerator will be a "torch-bearer" to multiple future blockchain accelerators in the country. "Through this initiative, Tech Mahindra will enable creation of an ecosystem which will empower start-ups to solve tough business problems for clients across diverse industry verticals. The Telangana government will help provide the required regulatory framework to enable and promote Blockchain growth," the statement said. They also do it so they can sign up fast-growing businesses in their early days.Barclays, Santander, Telefonica, and John Lewis have all launched similar initiatives in previous years but they've had mixed success.Startups that enroll in the connectivity-focused Virgin Media accelerator programme will be forced to sacrifice 6% of their equity in exchange for a £13,000 investment in their business. Each company will also have the option to take an additional £65,000 convertible loan note for up to an additional 4% equity stake.During the programme the startups will receive mentoring and guidance from Virgin Media executives and the TechStars team, as well as an office to work in and free internet from Virgin Media.Once the programme has finished, the 10 startups will take part in a 'Demo Day' where they will each pitch to investors for the chance to raise capital.Virgin Media wants startups focusing on a diverse set of backgrounds to apply, particularly those companies developing products and services that fall under: the Internet of Things, telecom infrastructures, customer data and experience, social enterprise, connected homes, connected goods and services, interactive home experiences, connected business services, home health and wellness, and connectivity for social good.<h2>Some accelerators over-promise</h2>The best known accelerator is arguably Y-Combinator in Silicon Valley, which nurtured companies like Airbnb and Dropbox in their early days. Richard Branson's Virgin Media is launching its own version of Y-Combinator in London

Qualcomm to further invest in its new Snapdragon platform for wearables after reaching 40 million shipments

More than 150 accelerators currently operate in the UK - up tenfold since 2009 - offering a combination of contacts, mentorship and financial backing to entrepreneurs building up their businesses from scratch.Entrepreneur First, a self-described "talent investor", has backed more than 200 British businesses since it was founded in 2011, including AI start-up Magic Pony Technologies, which was bought by Twitter for an estimated $150 million in 2016.Matt Clifford, CEO and co-founder, told Business Insider there was a surplus of accelerator programmes in the UK, describing the current system as a "broken model". He said: "You can count the number of accelerators with a functioning investment model on one hand."According to the latest research by Nesta, an innovation foundation, around half of the UK's accelerators receive funding from larger corporations. Nike, EDF Energy and British Airways are among the big businesses that have launched their own schemes in the name of innovation.Dr Christopher Haley, Nesta's head of new technology and start-up research, said many companies were backing accelerator schemes as a means of solving internal problems, adding that accelerators had "effectively become a form of outsourcing.""My fear is that there are some corporate backers out there who don't know what they're doing, who haven't thought deeply enough about how their investments will pan out, and will end up leaving these start-ups without a home once they graduate."Scott Campbell, director at Deloitte Ventures, suggested too many investors were engaging in "innovation theatre", offering the illusion of success with few tangible results."Accelerators can be hugely valuable to start-ups," he said. "But too often it's not clear what they are getting out of joining these programmes. At the same time, corporate accelerators can be unsure of the value they are trying to generate from a start-up."Dr Haley, who is currently working on a new report looking at accelerators in the UK, commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, said its preliminary findings suggested accelerators could have a positive impact "but not all of them"."It remains to be seen how many of these programmes will survive, since many are struggling with their business model," he said."Entrepreneurs should be aware that there is a significant variation between programmes, and be sure to undertake research before signing up."Nike, EDF and BA did not respond to requests for comment.

Bengaluru-based Lemnisk offers real-time marketing automation and secure CDP, capable of providing 1-to-1 personalisation and cross-channel customer journeys at a scale that increases conversions, retention, and growth for enterprises.
