Prime Minister <keyword id="19895781" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi" source="keywords">Narendra Modi</keyword>, Home Minister <keyword id="19899491" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amit-Shah" source="keywords">Amit Shah</keyword> and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are among the senior BJP leaders in the fray. Key opposition leaders, including former Congress chief <keyword id="19895780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rahul-Gandhi" source="keywords">Rahul Gandhi</keyword>, NCP's <keyword id="20083020" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Supriya-Sule" source="keywords">Supriya Sule</keyword> and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, are also contesting the poll. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Infographic"><cdata><![CDATA[]]></cdata></div> Here is a look at some key contests involving prominent leaders: 1. The Lok Sabha elections for 543 seats of the lower house were held across seven phases. The counting of votes will take place on Tuesday, June 4. Abhijit Pawar based the Delivering Change Foundation and Tanishka Foundation on a concept of “return on respect,” evaluating all initiatives based on social impact. 
 
The Tanishka Foundation is one such initiative, whose main goal is to empower women and change the perception of their roles within the society. Tanishka provides a peer-to-peer platform for women to connect, share and champion the cause of socio-economic transformation by addressing emotional, physical and financial security. 
 
• Emotional security is based on an integration of self-acceptance and self-confidence, social and political understanding and a personal ability to take a significant part in decision-making and in control over resources in the environment. 
 
• Physical security centers around fundamental human rights, including equal protection under the law, freedom from all forms of discrimination, access to the highest standard of physical and mental health, complete freedom from abuse at the domestic or community level and zero level tolerance for any form of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. 
 
• Financial security reflects the critical need in society, that in order for women to have a dignified life and fully harness and galvanize their potential, it is paramount that they have stable incomes on par with men in their socio-economic strata. Additionally, they must be provided with the skills and education required to earn secure and continuously enhanced incomes, with rights to optimal control over land and other critical monetizable resources and equal access to all entitlements and services available in society. 
 
Below, Pawar, who joined YPO in 2004 and is a Global Impact honoree for his work through Tanishka, recalls some of his favorite achievements, stories and life lessons. 
 1. What is one thing you know now that you would teach your younger self about business and <keyword id="34454" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="leadership">leadership</keyword>? 
 
If I were to teach my younger self, it would be the following: I know now that you should start with thinking of society’s challenges and issues, and when you do, your own individual problems become insignificant and the ability to reach out to people increases. This in turn creative business opportunities to solve that greater issue. Usually people start with the business objective and link to a social issue but if you start with that purpose that opens business opportunities. 
 
Today, I have an integrated model where philanthropy and social enterprise is at the core. I made a conscious decision to follow this model about five years ago when I decided to use my resources and skills for helping solve social issues, as part of the business. I thought I would lose money but it resulted in the opposite. It opened up more business opportunities. The privileged one percent of the population have to introduce change to make the world a better place. They can do it and have the responsibility to do it. 
 
2. What is your favorite achievement? 
 
The creation of the ‘Rally the citizens of Pune’ by Delivering Change Foundation. Seven million citizens across a wide spectrum of backgrounds including politicians, NGO’s, industries, judiciary, schools, colleges and the disadvantaged traveled by bus for a day to raise awareness of public transportation and ultimately help reduce pollution, accidents and traffic. Every stakeholder of the society was united, and we all traveled together in a bus for one day on 1 November 2012. We celebrated this as the Pune Bus Day. 
 
3. What is one of your favorite transformative stories about the women you’ve worked with? 
 
The Tanishka women’s group is the Matori Village story. The Matori village is one of the poorest villages in India. A 78- year-old woman, who is a Tanishka member, took the initiative and rallied other women in the village to ensure that they got 50 percent of the land transferred to their names, as many of their husbands were alcoholics and they indulged in gambling (therefore many men would lose their belongings and land). Not only this, but they also rallied to stop physical and domestic violence in their homes. They further moved on to make the village drought-free by working on the desilting project. This was all done by a group of Tanishka women, many of whom were illiterate. 
 
4. How has being in YPO positively affected your business or leadership? 
 
Being in YPO has allowed me many opportunities to meet members whom I can trust, and with whom I can partner in business. Some members helped us to verify information of companies or individuals with whom I was looking to either partner or take help from in social as well as business projects. 
 
5. What is one must-read book for business leaders? 
 
“Citizenville” by Gavin Newsom. This book has many innovative, interesting and practical ideas and initiatives, which can be easily replicated across many cities of the world. 
 
6. How do you make time for ongoing learning in your busy schedule? 
 
I don’t dedicate a specific time for learning. Everything is learning. It’s a state of mind and a full-time activity. I cannot not be a student. 
 
7. What are three insights you would like to share? 
 
• The world truly has become small. Increasingly, people across borders are connecting with one another in an unprecedented manner. The problem one faces in his country might be similar to problems faced in another country, especially when it comes to women’s issues, family, lifestyle, culture, etc. ‎Problems today can be solved through the digital world by almost anybody on the planet who has the capability and inclination, therefore, people of the world are increasingly relying on each other. It is now evident that the digital world is a reality and either you embrace it and take off and fly to a better future or else the possibility of falling off the cliff is very real. The digital divide will increase substantially if proper steps are not taken by the government. The global equations of the world will drastically change. 
 
• Change is constant. We can help deliver change by collaborating with each other, learning from the best and sharing. 
 
• Women must play a significant role in helping build better societies. This is being demonstrated in every field of life when they receive more opportunities.

Return On Respect: 7 Questions With Abhijit Pawar

Witness the birth of a movement. 
 In January 2013, <keyword id="3174895" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abhijit-Pawar">Abhijit Pawar</keyword>’s <keyword id="2951570" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sakal-media-group">Sakal Media Group</keyword> deployed reporters across the western Indian state of Maharashtra to unleash the transformative power of women. Backing woman-to-woman networks with the power of the media, the Tanishka Women’s Dignity Forum (Tanishka Stree Prathishtha Abhiyan) empowers women to be agents of change and improvement in their villages and society. Pawar joined the YPO Pune chapter in India in 2004. 
 
This effort began with 1,500 members of female-only forums, the Tanishka Women’s Dignity Forum movement has grown to 45,000 active members and 50,000 volunteers. These numbers are increasing every day, growing beyond the 95,000 women committed to improving their communities through shared effort and self-empowerment. 
 At the heart of the <keyword id="3174898" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tanishka-movement">Tanishka movement</keyword> is the forum, a group of 20 women who come together in an open format to discuss issues affecting their lives and those of women in their communities and to find and implement solutions to those problems. Representing all 35 districts and 290 talukas (subdivisions) of Maharashtra, the forums tackle issues from healthcare to land ownership rights to personal safety, sanitation, access to clean water, barriers to employment and much more. 
 
SMG and its Sakal Social Foundation run on the philosophy that media is a medium of social change. Pawar’s father, having served on the Sakal board for nearly three decades, instilled in his son the importance of giving back. As managing director of Sakal, Pawar has taken this idea to heart. 
 
“A seed, nurtured by my father, has turned into a tree bearing fruits, which are being shared with society,” explains Pawar. “We believe that Sakal belongs to society; and while running it, one should not think of only profit and loss but how much we give back.” 
 
Today SMG is recognized as the 11th largest donor company in India and the largest donor company in the Indian media sector. They give back a minimum of 30 percent of their profits to the community. 
 
Pawar has personally developed and launched numerous non-political social change initiatives during his time at SMG, focusing on education, empowerment and socio-economic transformation, including the Tanishka Women’s Dignity Forum. 
 
He brings innovation, business acumen and passion to everything he does. Recognized as an impactful social leader, he has been asked by all major Indian political parties to campaign in the general elections as their candidate, but has declined to do so. It is the opportunity to affect social transformation outside of politics and beyond personal success that he takes as his calling. 
 
“My remaining life will be dedicated to society, preferably outside the public political realm,” says Pawar. “I receive great peace of mind due to the various social activities undertaken through SMG.”

Financial security reflects the critical need in society, that in order for women to have a dignified life and fully harness and galvanize their potential, it is paramount that they have stable incomes on par with men in their socio-economic strata. Additionally, they we must provide them with the skills and education required to earn secure and continuously enhanced incomes, with rights to optimal control over land and other critical monetizable resources and equal access to all entitlements and services available in society. This ensures that they have a stable and secure base from which to act in the interests of societal transformation. 
 
Below, Abhijit recalls some of his favorite stories and achievements through his work at Delivering Change and Tanishka.

Transformation Through Respect: 5 Questions with Abhijit Pawar

New Delhi, Jul 7 () Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions on Tuesday said it has launched a machine to automate the manual processes of molecular diagnostic tests including RT-PCR tests for COVID-19. The machine will be available for pre-ordering starting July 13, it added. The company however did not disclose the cost of the machine. Earlier in March, Mylab had received commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for its COVID-19 test kit, which it said was the first 'Made in India' kit to receive such an approval from the regulator. The machine to automate molecular diagnostic tests is a compact bench-top machine that will automate lab processes from sample handling to preparing RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) ready tubes. It is a cartridge-based machine and can test multiple samples at the same time, Mylab said in a statement. The machine can be used for a wide range of RNA and DNA-based tests including COVID-19 RT-PCR tests. The machine can take input of various sample types such as plasma, tissue, sputum and swab, it added. "To make India self-reliant in advanced diagnostics, Compact XL is our most ambitious project to date. Compact XL will replace the need of 700 sq ft of clean room lab with a 4x3 benchtop machine and reduce the need of 3-4 expert technicians to just one, saving operational costs for labs," Mylab Discovery Solutions MD Hasmukh Rawal said. This machine will ensure that DNA/RNA tests such as COVID-19 testing can be done without manual error, minimal supervision and reduced human effort, he added. In April, Mylab had said that it had partnered with Serum India CEO Adar Poonawalla and AP Globale Chairman Abhijit Pawar to scale up the operations and escalate faster delivery of its COVID-19 testing kits. According to Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla, "scientific and technological breakthroughs are driving our fight against COVID-19. This revolutionary product, with multiple patents already filed, will be a giant leap in making testing accessible". It will eliminate traditional barriers to the adoption of molecular diagnostics at labs and address any potential demand-supply gaps of highly skilled technicians for testing, he added. The machine can run 32 samples at a time which can be further increased when machines are connected in a network, Mylab said. "The work at Mylab goes a long way in making diagnostics affordable and making India Atmanirbhar in testing. New Delhi, May 7 () Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions on Thursday said it has expanded production capacity to manufacture COVID-19 RT-PCR test kits that would enable 2 lakh tests per day to meet the growing demand in the country.Until now, Mylab has already manufactured testing kits for conducting 6.5 lakh tests and has supplied them to 140 sites, including labs and hospitals in over 20 states, Mylab said in a statement.As per the production plan, the company is scaling-up its manufacturing to enable 2 lakh tests per day, it added."It overwhelms me to see our efforts with Mylab in making India self-reliant in combating COVID-19 fructified," Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla said.As the production capacity increases from 20,000 tests per day to 2 lakh COVID-19 tests a day, "we will now be able to meet India's growing demand for testing completely," he added.The company has also received approval from Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for its RNA extraction kit Maverick to further streamline the RT-PCR testing process, Mylab said."We aim to make India self-reliant with high-quality testing.
