<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Fiat</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>When the Fiat 124 spider was announced, most of the motoring press said the same thing about the new, Mazda Miata-based roadster.</p><p>Japanese engineering meets Italian design: the best of both worlds.</p><p>And this was all before Abarth - Fiat's infamous in-house tuning shop - ever got ahold of it. Adding the Scorpion logo to the side means an additional 10 horsepower, Brembo brakes, new dampers, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and - crucially - a louder exhaust that will assure viewers that this isn't just an Italian update to your father's Miata.</p><p>Abarth also announced the 400-horsepower 124 Rally, a throwback to a classic racer that is FIA R-GT spec. Fiats racing: the glory days are indeed here again.</p><p>Here it is.</p>

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>William Fierman</span></p></div><p></p></div></div>Everybody loves the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the peppy roadster that's the best-selling sports car in history - and that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-what-its-like-to-drive-a-mazda-miata-in-the-middle-of-winter-with-the-top-down-2016-3">we recently checked out</a>, in its latest generation.</p><p>There's still a lot to love, but MX-5 enthusiasts have always had one complaint about the car: it doesn't generate much of an exhaust note.</p><p>Mind you, it isn't supposed to be a Jaguar F-Type or a Ferrari 458, a snarling, belching, rude beast of a machine.</p><p>But the Miata has always been, well ... too quiet.</p><p>Enter the Fiat 124, a new roadster from the Italian automaker that shares a platform and some technology with the MX-5 - so much so that automotive wags have taken to calling it the "Fiata."</p><p>As our friends at the German car publication, AutoBild, have noted, <a href="http://www.autobild.de/artikel/abarth-124-spider-2016-vorstellung-sound-und-preis-8548939.html">there's a version of the Fiat 124</a> that should scratch any Miata lover's itch for a throatier engine note.</p><p>In fact, the AutoBild-ers found a video of the Abarth 124 Spider cranking some rude sounds though its quadruple tailpipes (Abarth, by the way, is Fiat's performance division).</p><h2>It sounds pretty good. <p>In the 1970s, <keyword id="6454902" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Fiat">Fiat</keyword> <keyword id="20632" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cars">cars</keyword> had such a bad reputation for reliability, Americans joked the name stood for "Fix it again, Tony."</p>
<p>After leaving the U.S. market altogether in 1983, Fiat returned in 2011 with the 500, and the brand has now posted 17 consecutive months of year-over-year sales gains. Last month, the 500 was named the <a href="http://www.jdpower.com/consumer-ratings/automotive/ratings/909201609/2013-Automotive+Performance+Execution+and+Layout+%28APEAL%29+Study/index.htm" target="_blank">best city car in a new J.D. Power study</a>.</p>
<p>We just spent a week in the 2014 Fiat 500 Abarth — the high-performance variant of the 500 — and it didn't take us long to fall head over heels for the Italian beauty.</p>

TEST DRIVE: We Fell Head Over Heels For The Powerful, Stylish 2014 Fiat 500 Abarth

The plucky original put the Italian car industry back in business after Word War II. </p><p>An updated 500 came to the US after the financial crisis, reestablishing the brand. Fiat, a division of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, then added models, including the 500L, an SUV; the Abarth performance trim of the 500 coupé; a 500C convertible; and a 500e all-electric vehicle.</p><p>The original 500 and 500C are leaving the US market amid poor sales and a pretty bad reliability record. But other vehicles are sticking around, and for the 2019 model year, the 500X received an update.</p><p>The 500X shares a platform with the Jeep Renegade, a vehicle I had sort of liked when I reviewed it, so I was looking forward to the 500X.</p><p>Read on to learn what automotive disappointment feels like.</p>

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Piotr Degler/Degler Studio</span></p><p class="caption">The 1960 Abarth 1000 Bialbero speed record car "La Principessa."</p></div><p></p></div></div>Looking like something Marvin the Martian would drive, this 1960 <span>Abarth 1000 Bialbero </span>speed record car will cross the auction block at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours de'Elegance in August.</p><p><a href="http://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1960-abarth-1000-bialbero-record-car-la-principessa/">Gooding &amp; Co</a>, the auction house, is not releasing a pre-sale estimate for this one-of-a-kind speed machine, but it will likely do well in a room filled with some of the most devout car collectors in the world.</p><p><span>Named "La Principessa," (or "The Princess") the car was designed for Abarth by legendary coach-builder Pinin Farina - now best known for their long-time partnership with Ferrari - and shaped in the wind tunnel at the Turin Polytechnic University in Italy.</span></p><p><span>The goal: to break the world record for the <span>highest speed maintained for the longest amount of time.</span></span></p><p><span><span>After it premiered at the Turin Motor show in 1960, it set a total of nine world records, according to the auction house, including 10,000 km at an average of 118.7 mph and 72 continuous hours at 116 mph.<span></span></span></span></p><p>The unique machine is original, unrestored, and has never been publicly sold.</p>

This Italian speed record car looks like a spaceship

Mumbai, Feb 23 () FCA India, which had a runaway success with its sole locally made SUV Jeep Compass launched in July 2017 but has tapered off the momentum since then, is "very serious with its operations here" and will produce two-three models from the Ranjangaon facility near Pune, Maharashtra, from next year.<p> The American company will also shortly bring its iconic brand Wrangler Rubicon to the domestic market as early as this quarter, a top company official has said.</p><p> Playing on the pricing side and technology, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles had launched its fully-locally made Jeep Compass in July 2017 with a starting price of Rs 14.95 lakh, and the vehicle became so popular that within 10 months, the company recovered its investment of USD 250 million from Jeep sales, a first for any foreign auto brand here and especially for an American brand as both their other US brands GM and Ford have failed miserably twice here.</p><p> Today, over 50,000 Jeep Compasses are plying on roads, while the company has also shipped as many as 17,000 units to around 15 key right-hand drive markets, including Britain, Japan and Australia.</p><p> "We are very serious with our operations here. We consider the current fall in the volume as a blip and we are very sure it will pass. The headquarters are very happy with us. We have had a huge success and are sure to repeat it again here," Datta told  in an interview.</p><p> On the need for more models, which is critical for the volume game, Datta said, "We fully understand to be more successful we need more models which, so far, we could not have. So, beginning next year, we will have more than two more Jeep models being rolled out from the Ranjangaon facility."</p><p> FCA has seen its volume plunge by around 30 per cent from its 2018 peak, as consumers have been in a wait-and-watch mode for almost two years now due to the rash of regulatory changes on one hand, and banks and NBFCs have been keeping away from the market for too long now.</p><p> The USD 3-million industry, primarily entry models-driven, as a whole has seen the volume plunge almost 9 per cent so far this year. Despite the drop, they are still selling 900-1,000 units a month, he added, and so is exports.</p><p> Whether the company will look at rolling in any luxury hatchbacks and sedans here, Datta answered in the negative saying they "want to be an SUV-only brand in the foreseeable future", as he believes that the future of premium SUVs is bright here.</p><p> "We are committed to stay in India for long and we are looking at every spoke in the wheel to ensure we are successful again and the headquarters is willing to invest hundreds of millions of dollars more to build our business here," said Datta, who took over the India operations last September, and an FCA veteran having spent over two decades at its global operations.</p><p> Apart from launching more models, FCA is also widening its reach, which is 17 full-fledged sales centres and 80 mini centres now, he said adding that another area they are working on building the brand is focusing on merchandise and accessories.</p><p> On bringing in Wrangler Rubicon, which will be priced upwards of Rs 72 lakh, he said, "The demand for the iconic Rubicon is so high that we are already sold out for months."</p><p> From its CBU (completely built units) stable, the Jeep Wrangler has been the best-seller among all accounting for 67 per cent of the volume, since its entry into the domestic market in August 2016.</p><p> On the transition to BS-VI, Datta said that as of the first week of February, the entire range of the Jeep Compass has been moved to the new emission norms and that they have no inventory issue with the BS-IV models at all.</p><p> The BS-VI Compass comes at a higher price tag of 5-7 per cent or Rs 25,000-1,10,000 depending on the model, he said.</p><p> In June 2019, FCA rolled out the first BS-VI powertrain for both its petrol and diesel variants. Currently, the demand is more for diesel AMT (automatic manual transmission) models. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group has been around the globe for the past seven decades, designing, engineering, manufacturing and selling brands like the Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Ram, and SRT and the luxury Maserati.</p> In the components sector, it operates through Teksid and Comau, and in after-sales services, under the Mopar brand name. FCA to roll out 2-3 more Jeep models locally from next year

<p>A huge majority of <keyword id="20632" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cars">cars</keyword> these days come with automatic transmissions. That's not the case with the Fiat 500 Abarth, though.</p>
<p>The trendy and fast Abarth line of cars from Italy comes exclusively with manual transmissions – meaning you'll have to learn <keyword id="31181" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="How-to">how to</keyword> drive stick if you didn't already know. (The regular Fiat 500 comes as an automatic.)</p>

Flynn takes charge with immediate effect and replaces <keyword id="1624060" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nagesh-Basavanhalli">Nagesh Basavanhalli</keyword>, who left the company to pursue other interests.<br />

	With his takeover, Flynn will be responsible for further boosting the overall sales of the company while ensuring that the product portfolio is strengthened with new launches. “His role also includes the management of service, parts and customer care across more than 132 dealerships in 98 cities across 24 states in India,” added the company in  a statement.<br />

	It should be noted that Fiat will be launching its Abarth brand in 2015, which will have its own brand identity.<br />

<p>BMW's just released the most powerful production model ever produced by its MINI brand.</p>
<p>The new MINI John Cooper Works Edition is the latest in the line of high performance models to carry the John Cooper Works moniker. Although, it's not the "MINI we've all been waiting for" - that honor goes to gorgeous <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/could-this-be-the-mini-weve-all-been-waiting-for-2014-9" target="_blank">Superleggera Vision</a> - the John Cooper is the high-performance flagship model the MINI brand could really use.</p>
<p>The new John Cooper edition will feature an upgraded 2.0 liter BMW twinpower turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine. This time around, horsepower has been boosted by 20, to 228 - making it the most powerful Mini Cooper yet. The result is a fun runabout capable of making the dash to 60 mph in a quick 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 153 mph. That's puts the hot MINI squarely in the wheel house of the segment dominating Volkswagen GTI.</p>
<p>The new MINI had better be able to perform. The car's namesake - John Cooper - is a legendary automotive entrepreneur and racer. He is credited with the some of the most innovative race cars of the past century - including the Formula One Championship-winning Cooper-Climax racers of the early 1950s.</p>

<p>The John Cooper Works MINI will also feature upgraded brakes and re-tuned suspension to boost handling capability around the twisty bits of the road. A new sports exhaust will surely added to the auditory pleasures of the driving experience.&#xa0;</p>
<p>With 49,500 cars sold through November, MINI sales are down 17.4% compared to last year. Hopefully&#xa0;a new flagship performance model help spur the sales. However it will have many obstacles to contend with. VW's new Golf GTI looks very good.</p>

<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"><span>However, the ultimate goal for any high performance MINI is to recreate the magic of Monte Carlo rally-winning MINI Coopers that dominated the sport in the mid 1960s. Whether the new John Cooper Works edition can successfully evoke that performance and level of fun remains to be seen.</span></span></p>

This Fiat 500 Was Created With 13 Naked Models And Body Paint [The Brief]

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>William Fierman</span></p><p class="caption">The Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>When Jerry Phillips bought his business in 2009, the imports that sustained his sales mostly came from Europe.</p><p>As a dealer in parts for vintage Alfa Romeo and Fiat automobiles, most of the parts sold by Phillips' company in Fort Worth, Texas, were going into cars from Italy.</p><p>Phillips found, however, the parts didn't necessarily have the same origins as the cars they were paired with.</p><p>"I discovered when I purchased the business that all the parts that we were buying from Europe, lo and behold, they were sourcing from overseas themselves, from Asia, so we began to source from Asia as well," Phillips told Business Insider.</p><p>"We import parts from around the world, and we ship parts out every day around the world," he said. "We buy from the EU. We buy from Turkey. We buy from South America. We buy from China. We buy from a couple of other Asian nations. We buy from around the world."</p><p>Phillips' company, which employs only five people, is one of many American small businesses - that is, wholesale or <keyword id="6354851" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Retail">retail</keyword> trade firms with 250 or fewer employees - that relies heavily on imports. More than 95% of US importers are firms of that size, according to Census data <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/small-businesses-uneasy-over-border-adjustment-tax-plan-1485712646" target="_blank">cited</a> by The Wall Street Journal.</p><p>The Trump administration has floated <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/sean-spicer-trump-considering-20-tax-on-mexican-imports-2017-1" target="_blank">a 20% tax</a> on imports as one possible way to pay for the wall the president wants to build on the US-Mexico border, estimated to cost $12 billion to $15 billion. Revenue generated by the new tax scheme would supposedly fund <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jan/26/trump-mexico-border-tax-trial-balloon-republican-reaction?utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter" target="_blank">a reduction</a> in the corporate tax rate, from 35% to 20%.</p><p>Such a tax would have pronounced effects on Texas, which has a trade surplus with Mexico and through which flows 33% of Mexico's imports to the US.</p><p><span>"Texas' number one trading partner by far is Mexico, and imposing a 20% tax on Mexican imports to fund a border wall would hurt the Texas economy," Texas Association of Business President </span><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/01/26/lawmakers-trump-mexico-tax-plan-would-hurt-texas/97120400/?utm_source=feedblitz&amp;utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&amp;utm_campaign=usatoday-newstopstories" target="_blank">Chris Wallace</a><span><a href="http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2017/01/26/lawmakers-trump-mexico-tax-plan-would-hurt-texas/97120400/?utm_source=feedblitz&amp;utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&amp;utm_campaign=usatoday-newstopstories" target="_blank"> said</a> at the end of January. "This proposal could mean a loss of jobs and a hit to state tax revenues."</span></p><p><span>"Mexico doesn't pay for the wall," Jared Bernstein, senior fellow at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-01-26/trump-may-fund-border-wall-with-20-percent-tax-on-mexico-imports" target="_blank">told Bloomberg</a> in late January. "American consumers who shop at places that import, like Wal-mart and Target, pay for the wall ..."</span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>David McNew/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p>"I can easily see that businesses like ours would need to raise prices anywhere from 20% to 30% to cover these changes in the rules," Phillips told Business Insider, saying his company had a major presence in what he admitted was a "teeny, tiny market."</p><p>"And my customers are very price conscious," he added. "It would be very difficult for us to continue to sell at the volume we are with a 20% to 30% price increase." With customers less willing to buy his goods, Phillips said, businesses down the line, like repair shops, would in turn see less business and employ fewer people.</p><p>Concerns about barriers to imports are not limited to Texas businesses or to imports from Mexico.</p><p>While large retailers like Walmart have more leverage to negotiate deals or to shop around for suppliers, smaller US companies would be hamstrung, unable to maintain current prices while selling higher-priced imports and unable to afford domestically manufactured goods.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Mike Segar/Reuters</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Richard Woldenberg, chief executive of Learning Resources, a Illinois-based company with about 150 workers selling plastic educational toys sourced mostly from China, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/small-businesses-uneasy-over-border-adjustment-tax-plan-1485712646" target="_blank">told The Journal</a> that even with a lower corporate tax rate, the border adjustment tax would drive his tax bill up by four or five times, which would require him to hike prices and then see sales shrink.</p><p>Jennifer Arenson, whose business, Global Sourcing Connection, employs 26 people and supplies uniforms and promotional items to Fortune 1000 companies, <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/small-businesses-uneasy-over-border-adjustment-tax-plan-1485712646" target="_blank">told The Journal</a> that for a company the size of hers, running its own manufacturing operation "absolutely is not a realistic option."</p><p>Arguments <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/small-businesses-uneasy-over-border-adjustment-tax-plan-1485712646" target="_blank">in favor of the tax</a> are that it would benefit firms that are exporters or those that don't import goods. Some small businesses may in fact become more competitive in this scenario. The conservative Tax Foundation estimates that it would generate <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-01-26/trump-may-fund-border-wall-with-20-percent-tax-on-mexico-imports" target="_blank">$1.1 trillion in revenue</a> over 10 years, and, among other things, it would disincentivize offshoring of profits and jobs.</p><p>Other advocates <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/small-businesses-uneasy-over-border-adjustment-tax-plan-1485712646" target="_blank">have said</a> the dollar would rise in value, offsetting the impact of the tax on US businesses. If that adjustment doesn't come to fruition, companies big and small would be hit with higher prices for imports.</p><p>"We keep our pricing stable, even when we, say, have to pay a little more for a product because of a fluctuation in the exchange rate that's not in our favor," Phillips said. "But, if we go to an import tax, that's going to be seen as a permanent change, not a fluctuation."</p><p>"If it's permanent, we're going to move prices upward," he added. "There's just no question."</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>David Ramos/Getty Images</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>More broadly, the negative impact of a tax on imports may outstrip the benefits reaped.</p><p><span>"From a macro perspective, from a broad tax perspective, the amount of revenue you're going to get is very low, the amount of distortions you're going to create is very high, the amount of trouble you're going to create for the US and the world economy is very large, and the distributional effects are not trivial," Adam Posen, a former policymaker at the Bank of England and the president of Peterson Institute for <keyword id="6356001" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="international">International</keyword> Economics, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/the-problem-with-trumps-border-tax-plan-2017-2-1001723115?utm_content=buffer4e728&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer" target="_blank">said at a conference</a> this month.</span></p><p><span>The cost would be "actually very harmful," Posen added.</span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>(AP Photo/Victor Calzada)</span></p><p class="caption">Shoppers from Mexico and the US make their way down El Paso Street, November 10, 2006, in downtown El Paso, Texas.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span>The possible <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/the-problem-with-trumps-border-tax-plan-2017-2-1001723115?utm_content=buffer4e728&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_campaign=buffer" target="_blank">broader international blowback</a> from such an import policy - disturbed relations with major trading partners like China and Mexico, potential action against US exporters by the World Trade Organization, and <a href="http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/economy-budget/312900-trumps-import-taxes-could-devastate-us-economy" target="_blank">retaliatory tariffs</a> - would redound on the US economy as well.</span></p><p><span>Moreover, Phillips told Business Insider, with a global supply chain, good business relations are about more than just economics.</span></p><p>"There are some parts I'll be buying from Turkey in the next couple of weeks, and it's a pretty big purchase for my small company," he said.</p><p>"Turkey is a Muslim country, and we've instituted these travel restrictions ... on a number of Muslim countries, and the folks in Turkey may not be too happy about that."</p><p>"I need to have a good rapport with my Turkish supplier. They need to trust me, and I need to trust them," Phillips added, chuckling.
