The Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on June 24 by Union Minister <keyword id="6354886" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Shankar-Prasad">Ravi Shankar Prasad</keyword>. He suggested the amendments under the Telegraph Act, 1885, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 “The Opposition got the Aadhaar and now they are opposing it. Registering complaint The Aadhaar Bill is going to allow individuals to take certain cases of misinformation and disclosure of identity of court. Previously, court were allowed to look into the matter only if UIDAI has registered a complaint. Penalties for violating the law The Bill can impose penalties upto ₹100 million along with jail term on all private entities who breach the provisions of Aadhaar Bill. Creation of UIDAI Fund A new Unique Identification Authority of India Fund will be created to collect all the fees and revenue by the UIDAI. These funds are likely to cover all the expenses of the UIDAI. Previously, the revenues were added to the Consolidated Fund of India.  Unique Identification Authority of India (<keyword id="6355252" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UIDAI">UIDAI</keyword>) is looking forward to appointing third-party agencies to carry out the authentication on behalf of individuals and companies. 
 
"Various use-cases can be built using the Aadhaar authentication service, especially by startups who have been requesting for access," an official told ET on the condition of anonymity. 
 
The move has come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently commanding to expand the use of Aadhaar. 
 As far as privacy is concerned , the new authentication system will function differently from eKYC norms, the current norms used by government departments and banks. This allows user agencies to enter the <keyword id="485058" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aadhaar-number">Aadhaar number</keyword> and biometrics of a person after which the UIDAI server provides the name, address and other details, to be stored by the agencies. 
 
When the service will be extended to private companies and citizens, only the bar code on the Aadhaar letter will have to be scanned and the data it contains will be sent to the Aadhaar database for verification, to return either with a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’. 
 
"This will be most secure way of authentication since there will be no transfer of any citizen data through the UID database," the official said. 
As per UIDAI data, there are about 330 authentication user agencies and over 111 crore transactions have been handled since the service started. About 20 companies have so far signed up for the Aadhaar authentication service, which include telecom service providers like Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and state-owned BSNL, as well as financial services firms such as MasterCard and Visa.

Instead, according to a directive issued yesterday by India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Indians can submit a temporary 16-digit virtual ID to authenticate their details. The DoT has given telecom operators until the end of the month to adjust their systems to comply with the new norms. Furthermore, during the authentication process, they will not be allowed to store the Aadhar or virtual ID information of their customers in any of their systems or databases. The ruling has been received favourably so far. Rajan S Mathews, the Director General of the Cellular Operators Association of India, stated, “We believe that this step will provide convenience and confidence to the subscribers to get an authentic verification conducted without having the fear of giving their Aadhaar number”. The income tax department has launched an online facility to correct errors in names and other details in permanent account number (PAN) and <keyword id="144117" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="AADHAAR">Aadhaar</keyword> document, according to news agency <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword>. Alongside the facility to link biometric identifier Aadhaar with PAN, the department has also put two separate hyperlinks on its e-filing website -- one to update changes in existing PAN data or for application of new PAN by an Indian or a foreign citizen. The second hyperlink is for individuals who want to update Aadhaar details by logging into 'Aadhaar Self Service Update Portal' using the unique identity number. The individual can then upload scanned documents as proof for data update request. Over 1.22 crore assessees already have Aadhaar-linked PAN but the number is abysmally low as there are over 25 crore PAN card holders in the country, while Aadhaar has been issued to 111 crore people. Last week, the income tax department launched a facility to enable a taxpayer to link his Aadhaar and PAN. It required a person to put in PAN and Aadhaar number along with his name as per the <keyword id="86474" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Unique-Identification-Authority-of-India">Unique Identification Authority of India</keyword> (UIDAI) data. After verification from the UIDAI, the linking will be confirmed. In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided, Aadhaar OTP will be sent to the mobile number registered with the UIDAI. New Delhi, Dec 26 () The government has made Aadhaar mandatory for subscribers of the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY), a pension scheme for senior citizens.
 The scheme, which envisages an assured rate of return of 8 per cent annually, is being implemented through Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The scheme was announced in Union Budgets of 2017-18 and 2018-19.
 "An individual eligible for receiving the benefit under the scheme shall hereby be required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number (the unique 12-digit biometric identity number) or undergo Aadhaar authentication," according to a finance ministry notification.
 The notification, dated December 23, has been issued under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
 It further said any individual desirous of availing benefit under the scheme who does not possess the Aadhaar number or has not yet been enrolled for Aadhaar, "shall be required to apply for Aadhaar enrolment before registering for the scheme".
 In cases where Aadhaar authentication fails due to poor biometrics, the the ministry's Department of Financial Services through its implementing agency will make provisions to help the beneficiaries get the Aadhaar number.
 Further, where biometric or Aadhaar one-time password or time-based OTP authentication is not possible, benefit under the scheme may be given on the basis of physical Aadhaar letter whose authenticity may be verified through the quick response (QR) code printed on the Aadhaar letter, the notification said.
 In the Budget 2018-19, the maximum limit under PMVVY was doubled to Rs 15 lakh per senior citizen. The scheme is available for subscription till March 2020. DP NKD HRS
