Fireside Ventures closes its third fund at $225 million

Financial services platform for startups <keyword id="14074636" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="strideone" source="Orion">StrideOne</keyword> on Tuesday said it has raised Rs 250 crore via a mix of equity (led by <keyword id="211885" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="elevar-equity" source="Orion">Elevar Equity</keyword>) and debt from banks. StrideOne, started by founders of venture debt fund <keyword id="9353689" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="stride-ventures" source="Orion">Stride Ventures</keyword>, introduced a startup-led credit distribution model for their supply chains and crossed AUM (asset under management) mark of Rs 200 crore in six months of inception across more than 20 anchor companies. It aims to reduce technological and financing gaps by leveraging the startups' existing ecosystem (vendors, suppliers) to provide credit related and other financial products such as tie-up finance, personal loans, etc. "We have been trying to innovate newer structures that would be further conducive to startups who are looking to expand and grow their businesses," said <keyword id="13803875" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ishpreet-singh-gandhi" source="Orion">Ishpreet Singh Gandhi</keyword>, Founder, StrideOne. StrideOne raises ₹250 crore to help reduce technological and financing gaps

Mumbai, Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank on Monday filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) with markets regulator <keyword id="5083555" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Securities-and-Exchange-Board-of">Securities and Exchange Board of</keyword> India for an IPO. As per the DRHP, the aggregate issue size is up to ₹997.78 crore, comprising of a fresh issue component of up to ₹800 crore and an Offer for Sale up to ₹197.78 crore by promoter and other selling shareholders i.e <keyword id="8150050" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PNB-MetLife-India-Insurance-Company">PNB Metlife India Insurance Company</keyword>, Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Ltd, <keyword id="4412564" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pi-Ventures-LLP">PI Ventures LLP</keyword>, and John Chakola. The net proceeds from the fresh issue will be used to augment the bank's Tier 1 capital (primarily loans, advances and investment portfolio) to meet future capital requirements. The company may consider a pre-IPO placement of up to ₹300 crore, subject to counsel from the lead managers. As per the CRISIL report, ESAF is one of the leading small finance banks in terms of yield on advances, AUM growth rate, and share of retail deposits. It currently operates across 21 states and two Union Territories with 550 branches, 421 customer service centres (which are operated by its business correspondents), 12 business correspondents, 158 banking agents and 327 ATMs and serves over 4.68 million customers. As of March 2021, ESAF's gross advances stood at ₹8,415 crore, compared with ₹6,606.51 crore a year ago and total deposits were at ₹8,999.43 crore against ₹7,028.38 crore. Additionally, the DRHP states that the bank will continue to focus on its rural and semi-urban franchisees and increase deposits across NRIs and CASA. As on date, it stands to have the highest share of retail deposits as a percentage to the total deposits when compared to the other small finance banks. Kerala-based ESAF Small Finance Bank looks to raise ₹998 crore through IPO

New Delhi, <keyword id="6360090" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-capital">Reliance Capital</keyword> (RCAP) debenture holders at their meeting held on January 5, passed the resolution with overwhelming majority for <keyword id="1187112" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="monetisation">monetisation</keyword> of its <keyword id="41933" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="assets">assets</keyword>. This comes on the back of shareholders having already approved RCAP monetisation. Reliance Capital had commenced its asset monetisation process - to unlock value of its underlying businesses which targets to make RCAP debt free. JM Financial Services Limited and SBI Capital Markets Limited ran an independent and transparent asset monetizsation process. Expression of interest for nine key assets was launched on October 31, 2020. EOI process received massive response for the nine key assets as multiple players have placed interest for each asset with some of them also expressing interest in all the assets. EOI applicants would now perform due diligence on each asset and submit binding bids for the nine key assets. Asset monetisation process is being run under the aegis of Committee of Debenture Holders and the Debenture Trustee Vistra ITCL India Ltd, which represents 93% of total outstanding debt of Reliance Capital. Reliance Capital debenture holders pave the way for asset monetisation

New Delhi, Feb 25 () Private market assets under management (AUM) grew 10 per cent in 2019 to an all-time high of USD 6.5 trillion and the increase was across all asset classes, McKinsey &amp; Company said in a report on Tuesday. The report defines private markets as closed-end funds investing in private equity, real estate, private debt, infrastructure, or natural resources and funds of funds. According to McKinsey &amp; Company's Global Private Markets Review 2020, AUM increased for all asset classes, but it was private equity (PE) that drove most of the increase. PE grew 12.2 per cent to USD 3.9 trillion, about 60 per cent of the total, the report said. The report further noted that the global PE net asset value has multiplied eight times since 2000, almost three times as fast as public market capitalisation, which has grown approximately 2.8 times over the same period. Going ahead the outlook for continued growth in private market AUM from both traditional and new sources of capital remains strong, McKinsey &amp; Company said. In 2019, private markets raised USD 919 billion, roughly in line with 2018's record levels, the report said. The report further noted that deal volume declined in every region except North America. Following softening deal count and flat deal volume, the average PE transaction in 2019 rose to USD 157 million, up 14 per cent from the prior year, the report said. The report further noted that public interest and limited partner (LP) pressure to take environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into account in investing has soared, prompting greater transparency on ESG policies and performance as well as a rise in dedicated "impact funds". Impact funds generate specific beneficial social or environmental effects in addition to financial gains. Limited partner is a partner in a company or venture whose liability towards its debts is legally limited to the extent of their investment. Nine of the 10 largest general partner (GPs) now publish annual sustainability reports. General partner is member of a business partnership who has unlimited liability for debts incurred by the business. Welcome, Gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds). Simply put, gold ETFs are like the cool cousins of your traditional gold investments. It's basically buying units of an ETF on the stock exchange that directly mirror the ongoing domestic prices of gold. In September 2019, gold ETFs had garnered a mere Rs 44.11 crore. Compare that to the inflows worth Rs 1,232.99 crore gold ETFs received last month. Talk about growing, or glowing popularity! In fact, in just 2024, inflows in gold ETFs have surged by nearly 88% since the beginning of this calendar year. From Rs 657.46 crore in January 2024 to Rs 1,232.99 crore in September 2024, good old gold is never out of season. <h2>So, how do these ETFs work? Should I invest in them now?</h2>All you need is a Demat account. Log into your account, choose the gold ETF scheme you want to invest in, and voila! You’re now a bullion-aire! All your gold ETF units will be stored in this account. Then, you can buy and sell gold ETFs just like you buy shares—in real-time. So, if gold prices inch upwards, which is where gold is currently going, the value of your ETF units will also rise in lockstep. Ashwini Kumar, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Data at ICRA Analytics, says that of late, gold ETFs have been increasingly gaining popularity among investors due to the liquidity, safety and transparency they offer. "With the escalating global geopolitical tensions boosting the ‘safe-haven’ appeal of the bullion, investors are preferring to park their funds in gold ETFs as compared to investing in physical gold, as there is no hassle of storing it. The heightened activity in gold ETFs is also driven by the prospects of an imminent further interest rate cut by the <keyword id="20078761" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="u-s-federal-reserve" source="keywords">U.S. Federal Reserve</keyword> in the coming months,” he added. “Investors with a short- to medium-term investment horizon may consider investment through gold ETFs. A buy-on-dips strategy here may help investors capitalise on a temporary correction in prices. Also, given the current market dynamics where equities are showing mixed trends, a modest, 5-10% allocation to gold may serve as a hedge against inflation and market volatility, which may help you balance risks in an optimum manner,” Kumar noted. <h2> Wait, there is no dearth of options</h2>But if ETFs make you go WTF, there’s always digital gold. You can invest in the yellow metal without actually physically holding it for as low as Rs 1. The best part? You can buy or sell this gold 24 X7 seamlessly via multiple apps without having to pay storage costs. On your behalf, your gold is stored in insured vaults by the seller. But remember, digital gold continues to remain unregulated territory in the country, where you venture at your own risk. In 2021, market watchdog SEBI had even asked its members to desist from selling digital gold. Then there are gold mutual funds and the Sarkari SGBs, or sovereign gold bonds. While gold mutual funds invest primarily in gold ETFs, SGBs are issued by the <keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rbi" source="keywords">RBI</keyword> and are also a reliable substitute for holding physical gold. However, with the RBI currently putting brakes on issuing SGBs, investing in them is out of the question. Plus, you should only get your hands on SGBs if you're in for the long haul. Apart from a 2.5% p.a. interest, you don't have any yearly earnings from them. Moreover, no premature redemption is allowed before 5 years, and you'll have to wait a good 8 years to maximise your returns. <h2> Okay, tell me about returns</h2>In contrast, the seventeen gold ETF schemes currently present in the market offer an average one-year return of 29.12%. Stay with it a little longer, and you can end up with returns worth 16.93% and 13.59% over a 3 and 5-year period, respectively. If you look at it, these returns are comparable with the returns delivered by actual, physical gold. Data from Value Research indicates that gold, as a commodity, has delivered returns worth 27.24%, 16.53%, and 14.18% over a 1, 3, and 5-year period, respectively. So, worth investing, right? <h2>What are the risks?</h2>See, stock markets are as unpredictable as monsoons in Mumbai. One significant market correction can wash away your returns, and one sunny day or an upswing can leave you wallowing in wealth. Since your gold investments are directly linked to these markets, you should steel yourself up for some volatility. Plus, international gold prices are in dollars. So, if our rupee decides to take a nosedive, your returns might look a bit tarnished. Also, know that your ETF might not always perfectly mirror gold prices, which is also known as a tracking error. It's like expecting your Zomato-ordered food to look exactly like the picture on the menu—it's close, but not quite. Then there’s the taxation bit. First, you pay a heavy amount to buy gold. Not to mention all those extra, hefty jewellery-making charges. And then you pay even more money to keep it safe in a bank locker, lest it get stolen. But what if we tell you that you can own pure 24k gold, minus all these frills? Welcome, Gold ETFs (Exchange Traded Funds). Simply put, gold ETFs are like the cool cousins of your traditional gold investments. Instead of stashing gold bars under your mattress like those maniac millionaires we see in Bollywood films, you can now invest and trade in gold through the stock market. It's basically buying units of an <keyword id="19930506" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="etf" source="keywords">ETF</keyword> on the stock exchange that directly mirror the ongoing domestic prices of gold. Generally, gold ETFs are equivalent to 99.5% pure physical gold bars, and each ETF unit denotes actual, one gram of gold. And let's face it, who would not want that golden glow in their lives? Gold ETFs have witnessed an over seven-fold surge in their AUM (assets under management) in just the last five years. From Rs 5,613.22 crore in September 2019 to Rs 39,823.50 crore in September 2024, gold ETFs seem to be in-thing. Inflows in gold ETFs have shot up by a whopping 2,695% over the last 5 years. In September 2019, gold ETFs had garnered a mere Rs 44.11 crore. Compare that to the inflows worth Rs 1,232.99 crore gold ETFs received last month. Talk about growing, or glowing popularity! In fact, in just 2024, inflows in gold ETFs have surged by nearly 88% since the beginning of this calendar year. From Rs 657.46 crore in January 2024 to Rs 1,232.99 crore in September 2024, good old gold is never out of season. <h2>So, how do these ETFs work? Should I invest in them now?</h2>All you need is a Demat account. Log into your account, choose the gold ETF scheme you want to invest in, and voila! You’re now a bullion-aire! All your gold ETF units will be stored in this account. Then, you can buy and sell gold ETFs just like you buy shares—in real-time. So, if gold prices inch upwards, which is where gold is currently going, the value of your ETF units will also rise in lockstep. Ashwini Kumar, Senior Vice President and Head of Market Data at ICRA Analytics, says that of late, gold ETFs have been increasingly gaining popularity among investors due to the liquidity, safety and transparency they offer. "With the escalating global geopolitical tensions boosting the ‘safe-haven’ appeal of the bullion, investors are preferring to park their funds in gold ETFs as compared to investing in physical gold, as there is no hassle of storing it. The heightened activity in gold ETFs is also driven by the prospects of an imminent further interest rate cut by the <keyword id="20078761" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="u-s-federal-reserve" source="keywords">U.S. Federal Reserve</keyword> in the coming months,” he added. “Investors with a short- to medium-term investment horizon may consider investment through gold ETFs. A buy-on-dips strategy here may help investors capitalise on a temporary correction in prices. Also, given the current market dynamics where equities are showing mixed trends, a modest, 5-10% allocation to gold may serve as a hedge against inflation and market volatility, which may help you balance risks in an optimum manner,” Kumar noted. <h2>Wait, there is no dearth of options</h2>But if ETFs make you go WTF, there’s always digital gold. You can invest in the yellow metal without actually physically holding it for as low as Rs 1. The best part? You can buy or sell this gold 24 X7 seamlessly via multiple apps without having to pay storage costs. On your behalf, your gold is stored in insured vaults by the seller. But remember, digital gold continues to remain unregulated territory in the country, where you venture at your own risk. In 2021, market watchdog SEBI had even asked its members to desist from selling digital gold. Then there are gold mutual funds and the Sarkari SGBs, or sovereign gold bonds. While gold mutual funds invest primarily in gold ETFs, SGBs are issued by the RBI and are also a reliable substitute for holding physical gold. However, with the RBI currently putting brakes on issuing SGBs, investing in them is out of the question. Plus, you should only get your hands on SGBs if you're in for the long haul. Apart from a 2.5% p.a. interest, you don't have any yearly earnings from them. Moreover, no premature redemption is allowed before 5 years, and you'll have to wait a good 8 years to maximise your returns. <h2>Okay, tell me about returns</h2>In contrast, the seventeen gold ETF schemes currently present in the market offer an average one-year return of 29.12%. Stay with it a little longer, and you can end up with returns worth 16.93% and 13.59% over a 3- and 5-year period, respectively. If you look at it, these returns are comparable with the returns delivered by actual, physical gold. Data from Value Research indicates that gold, as a commodity, has delivered returns worth 27.24%, 16.53%, and 14.18% over a 1, 3, and 5-year period, respectively. So, worth investing, right? <h2>What are the risks?</h2>See, markets are as unpredictable as monsoons in Mumbai. One significant market correction can wash away your returns, and one sunny day or an upswing can leave you wallowing in wealth. Since your gold investments are directly linked to these markets, you should steel yourself up for some volatility. Plus, international gold prices are in dollars. So, if our rupee decides to take a nosedive, your returns might look a bit tarnished. Also, know that your ETF might not always perfectly mirror gold prices, which is also known as a tracking error. The transaction is a secondary sale by funds managed by Multiples Alternate Asset Management and other shareholders of the company. The value of the transaction is $30 mn. Fintech platform <keyword id="6557529" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="kreditbee" source="Orion">KreditBee</keyword> on Friday said it has closed $200 million in its Series D round by raising an additional $100 million in primary funding from <keyword id="312345" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="advent-international" source="Orion">Advent International</keyword>, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (<keyword id="380218" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mufg" source="Orion">MUFG</keyword>) and existing investors. Last month, the company raised tranche 1 of Series D from MUFG, Japan's largest bank, along with existing investors Premji Invest, <keyword id="15088227" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="motilal-oswal-alternates" source="Orion">Motilal Oswal Alternates</keyword>, NewQuest Capital Partners, and Mirae Asset Venture Investments. KreditBee said the additional capital raised will be deployed towards scaling the existing business and diversifying its product offering by venturing into digitally enabled financial products. "This reinforces the confidence in our profitable business model and its long-term sustainability of it. The latest round will help us to achieve our vision of serving over 400 million middle-income population in the country," said Madhusudan Ekambaram, Co-Founder and CEO, KreditBee. The platform aims to cross-asset under management (AUM) of more than $1 billion over the next 6-9 months.
