What is Adani getting into? On April 27, Adani Group’s flagship company Adani Enterprises announced that it established a new media subsidiary -- AMG Media Networks. The new subsidiary will carry out media related business including publishing, advertising, broadcasting and distribution of content over several media networks. AMG Media Networks will start its business operations in due course. With broadcasting and distribution business under media, Adani is entering the space to become an emerging player besides Amazon, Netflix, Disney, RIL’s Viacom18, Sony, Zee Entertainment. Last year, Sony and Zee Entertainment went ahead with the merger to create one of the largest entertainment networks in the country. The Indian over-the-top (OTT) media industry is growing large day by day with an increasing number of audiences getting comfortable with watching movies, web series online. RIL owns Network18, which runs 55 channels in India spanning news and entertainment, including 16 international channels. Another point of exposure in the entertainment industry is through Viacom18, which is a joint venture between RIL and Paramount Global (formerly ViacomCBS). Viacom18 owns and operates Colors TV channels and over-the-top (OTT) platform VOOT. To get ahead in the field, last week Reliance and Viacom18 have entered into a strategic partnership with Bodhi Tree, a newly formed investment platform jointly owned by media baron James Murdoch and Uday Shankar, former Disney executive to create ‘one of the largest TV and digital streaming companies in India’. Bodhi Tree Systems, along with a consortium of investors will make a strategic investment of ₹13,500 crore in Viacom 18. Additionally, RIL will make an additional investment of ₹1,645 crore in the venture. Besides, the collaboration will also transfer RIL’s JioCinema, an OTT app to Viacom18. The development is expected to take RIL’s media business one step ahead of others. The partnership happened the same day when Adani announced a new subsidiary venturing into the media business. So the show has begun and the time will decide who is bigger and better than the other. Markets regulator <keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sebi" source="Orion">Sebi</keyword> has approved <keyword id="6367820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Group" source="Orion">Adani Group</keyword>'s open offer to buy an additional 26 per cent stake in media firm New Delhi Television (<keyword id="6420486" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NDTV" source="Orion">NDTV</keyword>) and the offer will commence on November 22. According to an update on Sebi's website on Monday, the regulator gave its final comments on the proposed Rs 492.81 crore-open offer on November 7. The offer will tentatively open on November 22 and close on December 5. The price fixed is Rs 294 per share, as per a recent regulatory filing by NDTV. The conglomerate, run by India's richest man <keyword id="111343" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="gautam-adani" source="Orion">Gautam Adani</keyword>, in August acquired a little-known company that lent over Rs 400 crore to NDTV's founders more than a decade ago in exchange for warrants that allowed the company to acquire a stake of 29.18 per cent in the newsgroup at any time. Post that, Vishvapradhan Commercial Pvt Ltd (VCPL) - the firm that <keyword id="76451" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="adani" source="Orion">Adani</keyword> group bought out - announced that it would launch an open offer on October 17 to buy an additional 26 per cent stake from minority shareholders of NDTV. However, the offer was delayed since Sebi had not given its approval to the open offer. VCPL along with AMG Media Networks and Adani Enterprises Ltd had proposed to acquire an additional 26 per cent or 1.67 crore equity shares at an offer price of Rs 294 per share. If fully subscribed, the open offer will amount to Rs 492.81 crore at a price of Rs 294 per share. "The decision to acquire NDTV was arrived at in furtherance of the Adani Group's objective to set up a credible next-generation media platform with an emphasis on digital and broadcast segments, and that NDTV is a suitable broadcast and digital platform to deliver on this vision," Adani Enterprises said in a regulatory filing in October. On Monday, shares of NDTV closed 1.99 per cent higher at Rs 365.85 on BSE and Rs 364.50 on NSE. Sebi approves Adani Group's open offer for 26% stake in NDTV

The stock climbed 5 per cent to Rs 384.50 -- its upper circuit limit as well as 52-week high -- on the <keyword id="35140" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bse" source="Orion">BSE</keyword> after beginning the trade on a positive note. The company's market capitalisation climbed Rs 117.99 crore to Rs 2,478.92 crore on the BSE. On the NSE, it jumped 4.99 per cent to Rs 388.20 -- its upper circuit limit as also the one-year peak. After declining in opening trade, the 30-share benchmark <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> was trading 87 points higher at 59,118.24 points in late morning trade. In a move that has significant ramifications for the media landscape, billionaire <keyword id="111343" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="gautam-adani" source="Orion">Gautam Adani</keyword> on Tuesday launched a hostile bid to take over NDTV, first with an indirect acquisition of 29.18 per cent stake in the broadcaster followed by an offer to buy out a further 26 per cent controlling stake. On Tuesday, the owners of <keyword id="201523" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="new-delhi-television-ltd" source="Orion">New Delhi Television Ltd</keyword> (NDTV), a popular news channel, said they were completely unaware of the takeover until Tuesday, and that it was done without their consent or any discussion. Three Adani group firms - Vishvapradhan Commercial Pvt Ltd (VCPL) along with AMG Media Networks and Adani Enterprises Ltd - have come out with a public announcement for the offer under the Sebi norms. The open offer to acquire an additional 26 per cent or 1.67 crore equity shares in NDTV is worth nearly Rs 493 crore. The offer price is Rs 294 per share, 19.71 per cent lower than the closing price on Tuesday. NDTV's share price, which has risen more than 300 per cent so far this year, closed at Rs 366.20 apiece on BSE on Tuesday. If the open offer is successful, the Adani group will have more than 55 per cent stake in NDTV. As the Adani group looks to boost media investments as part of an ambitious expansion plan, a group firm first acquired a company that in the past was linked to rival billionaire <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>. The particular company had loaned Rs 250 crore to NDTV in 2008-09 and the Adani group firm now exercised the option to convert that debt into 29.18 per cent stake in the news channel company. Subsequently, it has launched an open offer for another 26 per cent stake, the group said in a statement on Tuesday. "AMVL's wholly-owned subsidiary VCPL holds warrants of RRPR Holding Pvt Ltd (RRPR) entitling it to convert them into a 99.9 per cent stake in RRPR. VCPL has exercised warrants to acquire 99.5 per cent in RRPR," it said. Such acquisition will result in VCPL acquiring control of RRPR. "RRPR is a promoter group company of NDTV and holds a 29.18 per cent stake in NDTV," the statement said. On Tuesday, NDTV said the exercise of the right by VCPL was executed without any input of the company or its founders. In an internal communication to its employees on Tuesday, NDTV said, "the developments of today are entirely unexpected for NDTV, and for Radhika and Prannoy". "We are in the process of evaluating the next steps, many of which involve regulatory and legal processes," it added. The bid for NDTV will be the Adani group's most high-profile bet in the media sector where Ambani already has a sizeable presence through Network18, which runs a bouquet of channels, including news channel CNN-News18 and business channel CNBC-TV18. Last year, Adani Media Ventures Ltd (AMVL), the media arm under the group's flagship Adani Enterprises Ltd, had acquired the digital business news platform Quintillion Business Media Pvt Ltd (QBM). When it comes to evaluating adviser performance, we not only measure how much an analyst outperforms a specific benchmark, but also how consistent they are in doing so.
As such, TipRanks uses the statistical Z-test to determine the statistical viability / consistency of financial advisers stock recommendations against a benchmark.
Z-test enables answering tough questions when it comes to comparing financial advisor performance, for example:
