It's most often a symptom of screen tearing.</p><p>Screen tearing occurs when the frame rate of the content - counted in frames per second, or "fps" - doesn't perfectly match the refresh rate of the monitor - measured in Hertz, or "Hz". <ul><li><strong>Business Insider India spoke to <keyword id="28115" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="intel" source="Orion">Intel</keyword>’s Marcus Kennedy about the company’s entry into the discrete graphics space.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>Intel believes its scale and expertise will allow it to take on the existing leaders in the space.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>We talked about consoles, the future of games, chip shortage and a lot more in the interview.</strong></li></ul>Microsoft and Intel are two names synonymous with personal computers (PCs) for all the 90s kids and adults. Even for enthusiast gamers, the only choice was Intel Pentium processors in the 90s, to Core 2 Duos in the mid-2000s, and now we have the 11th Gen Intel processors. The difference now is that Intel is not the only option to game on PCs. <br /><br />To make 'PC the best place to play', Intel has ventured into the discrete graphics space. It has been hyping the Xe Graphics for about two years but the hopes are tied to the <keyword id="12304831" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Intel-Arc-Alchemist" source="Orion">Intel Arc Alchemist</keyword> GPU (graphics processing unit), which is said to cater to professional gamers. It's technically the first proper discrete GPU after the Intel Xe DG1 that came earlier this year. To know more about what Intel's gaming division is up to, Business Insider India spoke to Marcus Kennedy, general manager of gaming division, client computing group at Intel Corporation.<br />          <div type="image" title="Marcus Kennedy." msid="86990598" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;In picture - Marcus Kennedy - General Manager, Gaming Division, Client Computing Group, Intel Corporation&amp;lt;br /&amp;gt;&amp;lt;b&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/b&amp;gt;&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div><br /><strong>Right off the bat, we asked the most obvious question — why did Intel enter into the discrete graphic market so late? And why now?<br /></strong><br />Kennedy told us that Intel has been making integrated graphics for a long time and gave a few examples including the Iris Xe released with the Tiger Lake CPUs (central processing units). He said, "we are entering at a time when there are certainly incumbents and from our perspective, given our technology and scale, we think that the current market dynamics are pretty ripe for disruption. And, you know, competition is always good."<br /><br />While Intel's big announcement about its Arc Alchemist is still awaited, comparisons are being drawn with AMD and NVIDIA on multiple fronts. While Kennedy did not take names, he claims that Intel has the prowess to catch up with the leaders in discrete graphics space. "The breadth of the architecture spans from mobility to high performance compute (HPC) to what we’re doing in gaming with the HPG (high performance gaming) architecture," he said.<br /><br /><strong>We asked Kennedy about the gaps that Intel is looking to fill that exist there in the gaming ecosystem. <br /></strong><br />He responded with a similar logic attributing to Intel's age-old existence and its work in making PCs what they are today. Calling Intel one of the "stewards of the PC", he said the company's focus is to continue to advance the PC and to elevate gaming on that PC for the community. <br /><br />"So whether it's driving technology innovation in collaboration with our partners, or creating innovation behind our walls, and leveraging our partners and ecosystem to go drive it; to us, being at the centre of the PC and in the forefront of the innovation of this platform is the key," he said. <br /><br />Intel's approach towards gaming is represented as giving an all-around push to the ecosystem to make it more gamer-friendly. This means in addition to focusing on essentials like overclocking, and high refresh rates, other areas like multitasking will be kept in mind too because as Marcus put it "gamers don't just game right".<br /><br /><strong>Following up on Intel's stance on filling the gap in the ecosystem, we asked about the competitive advantages of their products over others.<br /></strong><br />The way Kennedy answered this made it clear that the company will be making the most out with an option to use Intel in both sockets. That's because having their own CPU and GPU in both sockets will allow the company to take their relationship with game developers to do deeper optimisations. Kennedy said that working closely with game developers allows them to ensure that engines work at their best. In his words, Intel's discrete GPU will allow them "to expose the best experiences that those developers want their gamers to experience on top of both the CPU and the GPU hardware. So we're able to optimise across both of those sockets in a way that we hadn't before."<br /><br /><strong>As mentioned, working with game developers is essential to create a well-optimised gaming experience. With those advantages with Intel, what should we expect to change in terms of the gaming experience as gamers? What does the future look like?<br /></strong><br />Kennedy started by clarifying that the future of gaming is going to be more than just what's in a single CPU or GPU, it's going to be about the whole experience that the system brings, changing the way we play games on PC.<br /><br />He also mentioned cloud gaming, which came into existence almost a decade ago and gained popularity in recent years. He said it's catching up partly because of better internet, computing hardware and wireless technology. Also, partly due to larger companies taking more notice of it and putting more investment in it. However, he believes "cloud gaming will never be as good as actual gaming on a client". Adding to that, he says "it's going to get to a place where more gamers will start taking advantage of it and it'll be good enough and we'll be able to bring experiences to gamers that may not have been able to enter the market in the past."<br /><br />Lastly, he threw light on competitive gaming or eSports. He said, "the trend of more people watching games and getting excited about playing the games that they see on the screen will just feed a virtuous cycle of growth for this segment specifically and gaming will become more mainstream and it'll be just another sport over time."<br /><br /><strong>Given the current circumstances like supply shortage and higher GPU prices right now, consoles look like a favourable option for gamers. It might not be a PC replacement but for casual gamers console is still a good option to resort to. What is your take on console gaming and is there any chance that we can see Intel chips on consoles in near future?<br /></strong><br />The first thing Kennedy pointed out was that the first Xbox console ran an Intel chip. With that fact on the side, he said Intel wants to "bring the technology everywhere to try to delight as many gamers as we can". So that might be a hint that we may see Intel chips on consoles going forward. <br /><br />While drawing a comparison Kennedy summed up to say that "consoles are a good place to play, PCs are the best place to play." He says so because of factors like the limitation of first-party titles on consoles, the cap on frame rates as the best consoles can only do 120fps (frames per second) with most titles capped at 60fps. "So the availability of titles and variety of games that are available and the level of audio-visual fidelity, refresh rates, all of those on the PC is definitely a step up," said Kennedy.<br /><br /><strong>The pandemic led many industries to go through a drastic change. How did it change the PC industry in terms of casual users and gamers?<br /></strong><br />The PC market saw a jump in demand all around the globe during the pandemic. Kennedy said while folks were forced to stay indoors to keep themselves safe, they spent more time at home and spent less money, which eventually led them to spend time on their PCs and had more money to upgrade them as per the need. So, whether it was for education, gaming, or for media for streaming there was a relatively large spike in unit volume. With all members of the family working, studying or gaming at home, the density of PC usage per household also rose globally.<br /><br />Even in India, Kennedy said the rise in the number of people switching from phone to PC and consoles for gaming increased. In terms of eSports, he said, "more people started watching eSports, as we saw peak concurrent views of all of our eSports events. And it wasn't just our events, it was across the board. All of the record numbers for any of those events happened during those first few months of the pandemic, as people were finding ways to pass the time and better connect with other people."<br />        <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="80723862" title="Here's why there's a global computer chip shortage that is slamming automakers during the pandemic" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><strong>We did ask about upcoming discrete GPUs from Intel, but he didn't share specifics of the rollout plan. So we moved on to dig a bit about Intel's position on the ongoing global chip crunch.<br /></strong><br />Acknowledging the shortage in semiconductor components, Kennedy said the situation has increased the demand for Intel products and they have been expanding their manufacturing capacity to grow CPU supply by double digits over the year versus 2020. Some are being sold for double or more their original price.</strong></li><li><strong>The dearth of available graphics cards has become a meme among PC gaming enthusiasts.</strong></li><li><strong>Nvidia is urging retailers to prioritize PC gaming buyers over bitcoin miners.</strong></li></ul><p><br>It's a terrible time to build a gaming PC.</br></p><p>The process of building one is actually easier than its ever been, and playing video games on a PC is a delight. The problem is that graphics cards (GPUs) - the crucial component that powers the visuals of a PC - are in&#xa0;<em>extremely</em> high demand, which makes them difficult to find at their intended prices. Many resellers are jacking up the price by double or more.</p><p>The demand, however, isn't due to a massive influx of new PC gaming enthusiasts. The demand is being driven by bitcoin mining.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Though the graphics cards from companies like Nvidia and AMD are capable of powering cutting-edge gaming visuals, they're also capable of mining bitcoin. More than just capable, they're one of the <em>main tools</em> used by bitcoin miners.</p><p>As such, they're sold out pretty much everywhere.&#xa0;</p><p>A quick check of retail websites from Amazon to Best Buy to Newegg reveals the same thing: Back-order options, or sold-out signs, or re-sellers with huge mark-ups.</p><p>Nvidia's flagship GPU, the GTX 1080 Ti, has a suggested retail price of $700.</p><p>The lowest price for one on Amazon starts around $1,100:</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>As such, PC gaming communities on Reddit are <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/7qj8eu/gpu_shelves_fully_stocked_at_my_local_frys/">full of jokes</a> about how hard it is to find a graphics card for a decent price. There's even <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/7pjbus/video_card_prices_and_cryptocurrency_mining_v2/">a major thread dedicated to explaining the high prices of graphics cards</a> - it's given prominent placement at the top of <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/">the "Build a PC" subreddit</a>.</p><p>And then there are anecdotes like this one, from an Ethereum-mining Facebook group:</p><p>Both Nvidia and AMD declined to comment for this story.</p><p><a href="https://www.computerbase.de/2018-01/nvidia-geforce-gtx-verkauf-an-spieler/">German website Computer Base</a> got in touch with Nvidia Germany public-relations manager&#xa0;Boris Böhles, who told the publication that Nvidia is actively encouraging retailers to "make the appropriate arrangements" so that graphics cards are available for the intended consumer.</p><p>Nvidia can't force its manufacturing partners to limit their sales, nor its retail partners to do the same. It's a problem of supply and demand.</p><p>The problem, of course, is that bitcoin mining is more popular than ever.</p><p>And as more people discover the concept, more people need hardware to power their new hobby. The company is still recovering from missing the boat on the mobile platform shift. And some chip industry insiders are buzzing that now may finally be the time for Intel to break with tradition.</p><p>Intel itself said, quite deliberately, that it will be looking at CEO candidates externally, as well as internally - and for good reason. Most of the top internal candidates are relatively new hires. So if you're going to go with someone who hasn't been there very long, it opens to door to going with fresh blood altogether.</p><h2>The most likely candidates internally are:</h2><p><strong>Bob Swan</strong>, who is currently interim CEO. He joined Intel in 2016 as CFO, and he may looking at this as an extended job interview. He may succeed and nab the top role permanently for himself.</p><p>The main downside to Swan is that he's a straight up financial guy, not an engineer. He was the CFO of eBay for nine years, and also worked at investing firm General Atlantic. He's known internally for having the product vision that Intel needs right now.</p><p><strong>Venkata Renduchintala</strong>, known at Intel as Murthy. <span>Renduchintala was hired away from Qualcomm in 2016 and currently runs Intel's hefty client device products and its hot up-and-coming Internet of Things (IoT) products.</span></p><p><span>He's got the technical chops, though his management style has raised eyebrows in the past. He runs a new group that was formed when he was hired -Intel's Core and Visual Computing Group, which deals with graphics and other visual technologies. </span></p><p><span><strong>Jim Keller</strong> is the newest hire, joining in April from his short-lived stint running Tesla's self-driving autopilot group (a job at Tesla that has seen a lot of turnover). Prior to that</span><span>, Keller spent most of his career in semiconductors for AMD and others. He's a long-shot but if Intel wanted to bring in fresh blood for its CEO while still maintaining its tradition of hiring from within, Keller could be the guy. He currently leads chip engineering.</span></p><h2>Top outsiders</h2><p>If Intel is serious about looking outside the company, one place it might want to prowl is the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the giant chip manufacturer that makes processors for everyone from <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/aapl-stock">Apple</a> to <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/qcom-stock">Qualcomm</a>.</p><p><strong>Rick Cassidy</strong> is CEO of TMSC's North America unit. TSMC's semiconductor manufacturing process is kicking Intel's butt. As Intel has struggled to get its 10nm chips into production while dreaming of its 7nm offerings, TSMC not only already has 10nm chips available, earlier this year it started mass producing 7nm, and is working on 5nm, the chip that is supposed to be the "end of Moore's Law." Hiring someone from TSMC might be the boost Intel needs.</p><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>AMD</span></p><p class="caption">AMD CEO Lisa Su</p></div><p></p></div></div>Sanjay Jha</strong> is the recently departed CEO of Intel's fab rival Global Foundries, who left that role March after four years as CEO. He's also the former COO of Qualcomm. It's not clear why Jha left, whether he was falling short of expectations or if he quit on his own. Global Foundries has a reputation of being a hard place for CEOs, and has gone through four CEOs now in less than a decade, <a href="https://www.eetimes.com/author.asp?section_id=36&amp;doc_id=1333060">EE Times' Rick Merritt reports.</a></p><p>The dream CEO for Intel employees is AMD's <strong>Lisa Su</strong>. It seems far fetched that she would jump ship though. Su has been crushing it at AMD and she'd be leaving for AMD's all-time arch rival.</p><p>People are also talking about <strong>Renee James</strong>, the one time heir apparent to Krzanich. But she is unlikely to go back to Intel. James spent 28 years at Intel and left in 2015 and earlier this year came out of stealth as CEO of her own chip company, Ampere. Write me at:<span> </span><a href="mailto:jcamhi@businessinsider.com">jcamhi@businessinsider.com</a></em><em>.</em></p><p><strong>TRUMP ADMINISTRATION PUTS CRITICAL SELF-DRIVING TECH ON HOLD:</strong> Government efforts to mandate vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) communication technology have stalled under the Trump administration, according to a new Bloomberg <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-09-21/best-self-driving-tech-going-nowhere-as-rules-stall-under-trump">report</a>. V2V technology, considered critical for self-driving cars, creates a shared network between different cars, allowing them to continuously share vital safety information, such as their current speed, position within a lane, and data from their sensors and cameras. That makes the technology a key enabler of fully driverless cars that don't require human intervention.</p><p><strong>Regulators under the Obama administration had been pushing a mandate for all new cars to be equipped with V2V transponders by 2023, but the Trump administration has put those efforts on hold</strong>, auto industry executives told Bloomberg. The Department of Transportation's (DoT) recently <a href="https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.dot.gov/files/documents/13069a-ads2.0_090617_v9a_tag.pdf">updated</a> self-driving car guidelines don't even mention V2V technology. DoT Secretary Elaine Chao has also suggested that the federal government will leave it up to states to draft rules around vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, a similar technology that allows cars to communicate with stop lights and other road infrastructure. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has given no indication about next steps about moving forward with the mandate, even though many automakers and auto suppliers support it, Bloomberg reported. Some automakers, including Tesla, have come out against the mandate though, arguing that it may force the industry to adopt V2V and ignore possible alternatives.</p><p><strong>Without a mandate and industry-wide standard for V2V communication, automakers are delaying their V2V implementations.</strong> Ford, for instance, has put a hold on installing V2V technology in its vehicles, which can cost up to $350 per vehicle. Without a common standard adopted by all automakers, cars made by different manufacturers may not be able to communicate with each other, diminishing the V2V's value. And, if the technology can't deliver important safety benefits, automakers will have a hard time convincing consumers to pay extra for it.</p><p><strong>Lack of V2V standards could prove a major road block as automakers and tech companies look to launch driverless vehicles.</strong> Many companies, including Waymo, are determined to skip semi-autonomous vehicles and bring self-driving cars to market that require little to no intervention from a driver. Eliminating the driver is also key to enabling the benefits of self-driving cars for mobility services like ride-hailing. However, V2V technology is critical for safety when the driver is removed from the equation. So it is unlikely companies will be able to mass produce driverless cars until V2V standards are implemented.</p><p><strong>Enjoy reading this briefing?</strong><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/intelligence/transportation-and-logistics-briefing" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Sign up and receive Transportation &amp; Logistics Briefing to your inbox.</a></p><p><strong>TESLA TURNS TO AMD FOR AI CHIPS: </strong>Tesla is working with chipmaker AMD to build its own graphics processing units (GPUs) and central processing units (CPUs) to lessen its reliance on Nvidia, another chip designer prominent in AI and self-driving cars, according to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/20/tesla-building-an-ai-chip-for-its-cars-with-amd-globalfoundries.html">CNBC</a>. The companies will work together to design computing systems based on the x86 architecture, which was originally developed by Intel, that Tesla will eventually own intellectual property (IP) rights to. Tesla has relied on Nvidia for the graphics processors in its cars since <a href="http://www.nvidia.com/object/tesla-and-nvidia.html">shortly after</a> the original Model S was released in 2012.</p><p><strong>Here are the implications of this news for all three companies:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>While the deal itself won't hurt Nvidia significantly right now, it could threaten its long-term position in the market. </strong>Nvidia has moved to the forefront of self-driving technology, with agreements to supply its GPUs and Drive PX2 computing system to a number of automakers, including Volvo, Toyota, and Audi. GPUs are critical for self-driving cars because of their ability to process large quantities of visual data very quickly. While Tesla is one of its smaller auto partners in terms of size, the electric carmaker is considered a leader in developing autonomous cars. Tesla's move could prompt Nvidia's other auto partners to take a closer look at AMD as an alternative to Nvidia, which has been the dominant player in the market so far.</li><li><strong>Meanwhile, building its own computing systems is part of Tesla's larger effort to wean itself off third-party suppliers and do more in-house.</strong> Tesla has been winding down its relationships with third-party suppliers and building more self-driving technologies in-house. Last fall, it broke off its relationship with Israeli LiDAR designer Mobileye, which supplies camera and sensor technology for self-driving cars. Building and owning the IP for its own processors is just the latest move in this effort.</li><li><strong>But AMD could be the big winner of this development. </strong>This is AMD's first foray into the auto industry. The company can offer a compelling package for automakers as it is the only player that can offer both x86 CPU and strong GPU IP and expertise, according to Jefferies Analyst <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwiKq-3e3rbWAhWo7YMKHYiaCh0QqOcBCCYwAA&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnbc.com%2F2017%2F09%2F21%2Fwall-street-is-gushing-over-amd-on-its-a-i-chip-relationship-with-tesl">Mark Lipacis</a><span>. </span>If the GPUs and CPUs that Tesla builds with AMD help the automaker accelerate its AI and self-driving car development, AMD will be well-positioned to score more partnerships with automakers. The network will speed up the delivery of critical medical samples, such as blood tests, by using autonomous drones to avoid potential road traffic delays. Matternet's drones can fly up to 12 miles at speeds up to 43 mph, allowing patients and doctors to get test results much more quickly, according to the startup.</p><p><strong>The delivery network will use Matternet's newly unveiled base stations, where drones can dock, pick up or drop off deliveries, and swap out batteries.</strong> The stations, which can be built on the ground or on hospitals' rooftops, allow the drones to make their deliveries with minimal human effort. New packages are placed into a drawer and labeled with a QR code that tells the drone the package's destination. Workers only need to place samples into special storage containers and drop them in the drawer. The drones can autonomously retrieve fully charged batteries from a small storage bay built into the stations. The drones and base stations can also communicate with each other via a shared network, allowing the base stations to coordinate landings between multiple incoming drones.  </p><p><strong>Matternet will operate the network in partnership with Swiss Post, and plans to market its drones, base stations, and supporting cloud software as an all-in-one drone delivery solution to logistics companies.</strong> The startup plans to explore partnerships with logistics companies in the UK and Germany. European regulators have been more friendly to drone delivery programs than their US counterparts, which is why Amazon decided to launch its initial drone delivery tests in the UK. The company also launched an open-sourced platform for the software and artificial intelligence (AI) behind self-driving cars. The fund should help the company accelerate the progress of those technologies and gain a leg up on Didi Chuxing, one of its primary self-driving car rivals in China.</li><li><strong>Best Logistics, the Chinese logistics firm that Alibaba owns a 23% stake in, cut its planned IPO price from $713 million to $447 million, </strong>according to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/alibaba-backed-chinese-logistics-firm-best-slashes-ipo-plan-1505833194?mod=djemlogistics&amp;mg=prod/accounts-wsj">The Wall Street Journal</a>. The company initially filed for an IPO back in June. In addition to being its largest investor, Alibaba is also its largest client, accounting for about 70% of the company's express deliveries from January to March of this year. The pullback seems to stem from investor concerns over increasingly intense competition in China's fragmented logistics business.</li><li><strong>Fedex said that a cyber attack in June on its Netherlands-based TNT Express subsidiary cost the company $300 million, prompting it to revise its profit forecasts down for the rest of the year, </strong>according to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/fedex-takes-earnings-hit-following-cyberattack-1505857258?mod=djemlogistics">The Wall Street Journal</a>. The company acquired TNT for $4.8 billion back in 2015 to expand its presence in Europe. Tech Giants HP, Dell Extend Support To Autodesk India 2014, Sees Massive Participation From Industry

<p><keyword id="6358309" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Toshiba">Toshiba</keyword> just released its Satellite Click device, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/8-secret-features-in-windows-81-2013-7" target="_blank">a Windows 8.1-running</a> laptop-tablet hybrid that costs $599.</p>
<p>The flagship hybrid <keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> device, <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The Microsoft Surface, didn't do too hot last year (the company had to take a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-takes-a-900-million-charge-for-the-surface-2013-7" target="_blank">$900 million dollar charge</a> because of losses on the device), but Toshiba's dual-device attempt looks very different. </span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">Unlike Microsoft's </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-surface-2-photos-2013-9" target="_blank">Surface tablet</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> or the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nokia-lumia-2520-tablet-2013-10" target="_blank">new Nokia tablet</a>, which come with keyboards but primarily function as <keyword id="6361927" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tablets">tablets</keyword>, the Satellite Click is more geared towards people who want a <keyword id="13723" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Laptop">laptop</keyword>, but occasionally feel like enjoying the more-mobile tablet experience. It's less a tablet with a keyboard, and more a laptop that happens to come apart. </span></p>
<p><span>The Satellite Click has an 13.3-inch screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and 500 GB of storage. You can order it for $599 from the Toshiba </span><span>or from places like Best Buy.</span></p>
<h2><span>Design </span></h2>
<p><span><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source">Business Insider / Jillian D'Onfro </p></div><p></p></div></div>With brushed aluminum backing and black accents, the Satellite Click looks sleek and modern. Detaching and reattaching the tablet portion from the keyboard is incredibly easy, and you know you've got it locked in place when you hear the device's namesake "click."</span></span></p>
<p><span><span>As far as visuals, the screen is big, bright, and beautiful. It's not top-of-the-line screen resolution, but it's solidly middle of the road and aligned with the product's price. If you plan on watching a lot of videos on your tablet, the Click's big screen and wide viewing angles are a plus. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span>The first thing I noticed about the Satellite Click, though, is that it's heavy. With the keyboard dock, it's almost five pounds, and without, it still tips the scales at 2.81 pounds. The biggest current iPad Air measures 9.5 inches and weighs <span>just one pound, while the Microsoft Surface has a 10.6-inch screen and weighs 1.5 pounds. The Click's screen is only a few inches longer but the device nearly weighs nearly twice as much. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span><span><span>In full laptop mode, it's about a third of a pound heavier than the similarly sized MacBook Pro, even though the keyboard is plastic, not metal. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span><span><span>That's just too heavy, especially if you are planning on slinging the Satellite into your backpack for work on the go. Frankly, I would gladly sacrifice the huge screen size (which felt almost too big for a tablet), for something that didn't weigh me down. </span></span></span></p>
<p><span><span><span><span id="docs-internal-guid-2106fa1d-daad-86a2-5baf-f4c6b71a9af6"><span>The keyboard is also strangely hard to get used to. It has extremely shallow "key travel," meaning that when you're typing, the keys barely depress. Not only does this make for an initially unsettling experience, but I also found myself making more typos than I would ordinarily. </span></span></span></span></span></p>

<h2>Using It</h2>
<p>The Satellite Click runs <keyword id="1673985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Windows-8-1">Windows 8.1</keyword>, and, well, whether or not you like the Microsoft OS is a personal preference (though there was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/microsofts-david-pogue-tweet-2013-10" target="_blank">a bit of a Twitter fight</a> after the New York Time's gadget reviewer slammed it).</p>
<p>Personally, I find it a little unintuitive, but, otherwise, I thought that the Satellite Click ran okay. When I opened several tabs in Internet Explorer, the pages loaded a little slow, but it wasn't a speed-disaster. </p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The device runs with a AMD dual core processor, which basically means that it has low-power consumption and impressive heat management (you'll note that there are no ugly fan vents on the back of the Click, and it never felt like it was getting hot, even when I was working with it on my lap). </span></p>
<p>Another plus is that the Satellite Click has 500 GB of storage, which is a lot for a tablet. By comparison, you can only order up to 128 GB on an iPad.</p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The way the Click's battery works is pretty neat. There's a battery pack built into both the tablet and keyboard dock, both of which can be charged independently. When in laptop mode, the system pulls juice from the tablet first and then the keyboard. Without the keyboard, you can get about 3.5 hours of use, and with it, you've got almost seven hours. That's not too bad for a computer, but you would really want your supposedly on-the-go tablet to last longer. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;">The Click has a microUSB, microHDMI port, microSD card slot, dual microphone-headphone jacks, and volume buttons on the right side (not a bad spread), with a power button and port on the left. There's only one 3.0 USB port on the keyboard portion of the device. When I tested out the 0.9 megapixel front-facing camera, I was predictably disappointed.
