Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], December 3 (ANI): The Congress 'hand' has stopped Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) 'car' in Telangana as the grand old party has comfortably reached the majority mark as per the latest trends of the Election Commission of India. The Congress is leading on 61 seats while the BRS on 36 and the BJP leading on 10, as per ECI. Telangana Congress President, Anumula <keyword id="933541" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="revanth-reddy" source="Orion">Revanth Reddy</keyword> is leading from the Kamareddy seat leaving CM KCR trailing behind. Revanth Reddy is MP in the Lok Sabha from INC representing Malkajgiri Constituency. Earlier, He was a two-time MLA in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly from TDP in 2009 and 2014 and in the Telangana Assembly between 2014 and 2018 representing Kodangal Constituency. He left TDP and joined Congress in 2017. In June 2021, he was appointed as president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee replacing N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. Both Congress candidate Konda Surekha and Naini Rajender Reddy are leading from Warangal East and West seats. Telangana CM KCR is leading from the Gajwel seat. Since the formation of the State in the year 2014, BRS has been holding power with KCR as its chief minister. Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) is leading from Sircilla, which is considered one of the most important seats. KTR fought from the same seat in the 2018 elections and won. Payal Shanker from BJP is leading on the Adilabad seat while Dhanpal Suryanarayana leading from Nizamabad (Urban). Jaffar Hussain from AIMIM is leading on the Yakutpura seat. Celebrations were seen outside the Congress office in Hyderabad over the party crossing the halfway mark comfortably. The party cadre chanted "Bye bye KCR". The Telangana election results will be important for the Congress as it heads into the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A win in Karnataka and Telangana would further concrete its presence in the South. The Congress party, which is now in reckoning, was completely written off just six months ago. Several factors could have contributed to the Congress's upturn: Perceived anti-incumbency at the constituency level against BRS MLAs; energy infused by the Karnataka victory in the party leaders and cadres; the BJP's decline following the removal of Bandi Sanjay as the Telangana unit chief; and the perception that the BRS and AIMIM are in cahoots with the BJP. Congress leader <keyword id="41270" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="renuka-chowdhury" source="Orion">Renuka Chowdhury</keyword> said that Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) leaders are in touch with the grand old party. On being asked if BRS leaders are in touch with the Congress party, Renuka Chowdhury told "Of course! Today's politics is like that. They are in touch with us. Sometimes they take away ours (MLAs), and sometimes theirs come here." Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar who is in Telangana as an AICC observer on Sunday spoke about the possibility of MLA poaching and said that not even a single MLA or candidate will break. TPCC Vice President Kiran Kumar Chamala also spoke on the MLA poaching issue in Telangana and said that the party's MLAs will not be provoked. "It's not the trend what we see this morning, these are the waves and positive vibrations in Telangana. The 6 guarantees that <keyword id="689" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sonia-gandhi" source="Orion">Sonia Gandhi</keyword> has promised to the people of Telangana have turned the tide towards us. Poaching is one of the main agenda of KCR. We have taken some measurements. But after seeing the trends, we don't think it is needed. At least we'll have 80-plus seats. Our President Revanth Reddy is also leading. Everything is under control and our MLAs will not be provoked," the TPCC Vice President said. The fate of 2,290 candidates from 109 parties including the national and regional parties will be revealed as the counting proceeds. The contestants include 221 women and one transgender. A total of 103 legislators are re-contesting this time, most of them from the ruling BRS. A clear picture of the result is likely to emerge by noon. Telangana went to vote on November 30. In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had a 47.4 per cent vote share. The Congress came a distant second with 19 seats. (ANI)

Congress 'hand' stops BRS 'car' in Telangana, Revanth Reddy leads in Kamareddy seat as KCR trails

The sitting candidate Asaduddin Owasi won the Hyderabad lok sabha seat with a margin of 2.8 lakh votes. This All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate secured a safe win, with no sweat as expected by many. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Dr Bhagvanth Rao and finished as a runner up just like last year. However, BJP redeemed itself in the twin city as its G Kishan Reddy won over Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) by a margin of 62,000 votes. An anti-Modi stance The sitting MP Owasi, a well-known for his anti-Modi statements has managed to keep its legacy. Owasi invited ire in 2016 after he locked horns with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)’s Mohan Bhagwat. “I would never say ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’,” said Owasi after Bhagawat said every Indian should chant it. Owasi had stood his ground even when Modi wave was at its strongest in 2014, though his BJP counterpart Dr Bahgavanth Rao came very close with over 3 lakh votes, while Owasi finished with around five lakh votes. Nizam’ legacy Historically, Owasis and their city-based political party, have maintained much larger margins over their runner-ups, even when TDP and Congress were at their strongest. In fact, his father has won the same seat seven times, keeping the Charminar constituency with a majority Muslim population within the Owasi family, which heads All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). AIMIM was founded in 1927 under the auspices of Nawab Osman Ali Khan to be a pro-Nizam party during the times when the power of princely states was dwindling in a British-ruled India. But they came to take over the city only in 1984, after breaking Congress’ stronghold in the city and the state. Twin dilemma Secunderabad’s mandate unlike Hyderabad cannot be predicted as easily. In fact, the city is notorious for choosing a different party each year. Things got even murkier after the septuagenarian Bandaru Dattatreya was denied a ticket from BJP to contest the election. It went to G Kishan Reddy who is tasked with overcoming Anjan Yadav from Congress and Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav from Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS); to retain the party in the seat. Hyderabad and Secunderabad voters did not have it easy this time around. They had to choose between seven candidates in Hyderabad and five in Secunderabad. In 2019, over 30 candidates contested from Secunderabad!! In Hyderabad too, voters had 14 candidates to choose from. They came from unknown parties like Majlis Bachao Tahreek, Pyramid Party of India, Indian Christian Secular Party and All India Azaad Congress Party; along with a clutch of independents. With many candidates came fewer voters. This time around the city recorded a dismal voter percentage at 40%.

Asaduddin Owasi wins the Hyderabad seat, extending history

A total of 163 ( 68 per cent) out of the 241 winners in the Bihar Assembly polls have declared criminal cases against themselves in the poll affidavits, with <keyword id="42678" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RJD">RJD</keyword> topping the list with around 73 per cent, Bihar Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said. Of the 163 MLA-elects, 123 (51 per cent of total affidavits analysed) have serious criminal cases pending against them, including those related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women. In the 2015 Assembly elections, 142 (58 per cent) MLAs had self-declared such cases against them in their affidavits. This time, the ADR had analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 241 of the 243 victorious candidates. The ADR did not say anything on such details of remaining winners. The results of the three-phase elections were declared on Wednesday early morning after counting that went on for over 20 hours. Out of the 123 winners, 19 have murder cases, 31 attempt to murder and eight crimes against women against their names. Among the major parties, 54 (73 per cent) of the 74 winners from Tejashwi Yadav-led <keyword id="123786" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Janata-Dal">Rashtriya Janata Dal</keyword> (RJD) have pending criminal cases, followed by 47 (64 per cent) out of 73 from BJP, 20 (47 per cent) out of 43 from Janata Dal-United, 16 (84 per cent) out of 19 from Congress, 10 (83 per cent) out of 12 from Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist Liberation, and five (100 per cent) out of 5 from Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. A total of 44 (60 per cent) out of 74 RJD winners, 35 (48 per cent) out of 73 from BJP, 11 (26 per cent) out of 43 from JD-U, 11 (58 per cent) out of 19 from Congress, eight (67 per cent) out of 12 from CPI-MLL and 5 (100 per cent) out of 5 from AIMIM have serious criminal cases pending against them. Nearly 70% of Bihar election winners have declared criminal cases against them, mostly from RJD

The list of six Vidhan Sabha seats contained in the Lok Sabha constituency of Aurangabad includes Kannad, Aurangabad Central, Aurangabad West, Aurangabad East, Gangapur, and Vaijapur. Among them, Aurangabad West is earmarked for SC candidates. The others are general seats. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Chandrakant Bhaurao Khaire of the SHS had secured a winning margin of 162,000 votes than the runner-up candidate of INC Patil Nitin Suresh. During the upcoming assembly elections 2019, Sanjay Shirsat of the Shiv Sena party will take on Ramesh Gaikwad of the INC from the Aurangabad West seat. BJP is fielding Atul Sawe from the Aurangabad East constituency. From the Gangapur seat, the BJP is now fielding Prashant Bam. Shiv Sena is fielding Ramesh Bornavay from the Vaijapur assembly seat. As per the election commission’s announcement, all the constituencies of Maharashtra will face the polling in single phase on October 21, 2019. The votes will be counted and the results will be out on October 24, 2019. In 2014 general elections for the assembly, Kannad seat saw Jadhav Harshvardhan Raibhan winning over the NCP candidate Uday Singh Sardar Singh Rajput with a margin of 1561 votes. From the Gangapur constituency, Bamb Prashant Bansilal of the BJP party had won the runner up Ambadas Eknath Danve of SHS by securing 17278 votes more. In the Vaijapur constituency, NCP’s Bhausaheb Patil Chikatgaonkar had secured a margin of 4709 votes more than the SHS candidate R. M. Wani. The winning candidate from the Aurangabad Central seat was Sayed Imtiaz Jalil of the AIMIM who secured 19982 votes more than Pradeep Jaiswal of SHS. Sanjay Shirsat of the SHS party had won from the Aurangabad West (SC) constituency securing 6927 votes more than Madhukar Damodhar Sawant of the BJP. The winner from the Aurangabad East seat was Atul Moreshwar Save of the BJP who had bagged 4260 votes more than Dr. Abdul Gaffar Quadri of the AIMIM.

Maharashtra’s Parbhani Parliamentary constituency has six Vidhan Sabha seats and they are Jintur, Parbhani, Gangakhed, Pathri, Partur, and Ghansawangi. None of them are reserved seats and hence general candidates can contest from all of them. For the upcoming assembly polls, Parbhani voters will see a competition between the Shiv Sena candidate Dr. Rahul Patil and INC contestant Ravi Raj Ashokrao Deshmukh. Suresh Ambadas Warpudkar of INC will field for the party from Pathri seat. In the Partur seat, INC’s Sureshkumar K Jethaliya will take on BJP’s Babanrao Dattatray Lonikar. The single phase polling for all constituencies of Maharashtra will take place on October 21, 2019. The votes will be counted on October 24, 2019. Jadhav Sanjay (Bandu) Haribhau of the SHS party is the winner from the 2019 general elections for the Lok Sabha. He won the NCP candidate Bhambale Vijay Manikrao with a margin of 127,155 votes and became the MP from the Parbhani seat. During 2014 assembly elections, Jintur voters selected Bhamale Vijay Manikrao of NCP as their MP by giving him 27358 votes more than INC’s Kadam Ramprasad Wamanrao (Bordikar) of INC. from the Parbhani constituency, SHS candidate Dr.Rahul Vedprakash Patil won over Syad Khalad Syad Sahebjan of AIMIM with a margin of 26526 votes. The winner from the Gangakhed seat was NCP’s Madhusudan Manikrao Kendre who scored 2289 votes more than Gutte Ratnakar Manikrao of RSP. The winner from Pathri seat was IND candidate Fad Mohan Madhavrao who scored 13449 votes more than the runner up candidate Warpudkar Suresh Ambadasrao of INC. The Partur constituency winner was Babanrao Dattatray Yadav Lonikar of BJP who secured 4360 votes more than the INC contestant Jethaliya Sureshkumar Kanhaiyyalal. The MP of Ghansawangi seat is NCP’s Rajeshbhaiyya Tope who secured 43476 votes more than the BJP candidate Kharat Vilasrao Vitthalrao.

Undoubtedly, this was the most happening weekend for voters, who I assume lay tucked under their blankets just like I was, to witness the neck-and-neck fight between the BJP and Nitish-led <keyword id="6360370" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="grand-alliance">grand alliance</keyword> in the <keyword id="30033" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bihar">Bihar</keyword> battle. It was like an India-Pakistan world match that keeps you nibbling your nails till the very end. Here, on the contrary, things became clear pretty early, by about 11 am when the Mahagathbandhan turned out to be the turtle slowly overtaking the massive start the rabbit (BJP) had shown since the counting began at 7 am. As exciting as the result day was, Nitish and Lalu’s grand alliance had to have the last laugh (they did not bury their 20 years of rivalry to take on Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> to taste defeat, after all!). 
 
Ever since RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's comment came on the need to have a rethink of caste-based reservation, BJP knew it was doomed. What did the party not do to reverse the damage these comments had done - from BJP distancing from his remarks to assuring the people of Bihar that it would name an OBC as their CM after the elections - but the irreparable damage had already been done. If this was not enough, Union minister VK Singh did a ‘Mohan Bhagwat’ too and in fact very soon. “The government cannot be held responsible if a stone is thrown at a dog,” he said on the murders of two Dalit children in Faridabad. And pat, there went the Dalit votes to the grand alliance’s kitty. Muslims weren’t happy with BJP too with Dadri lynching incident, the remarks by BJP leaders that followed and the entire row over beef eventually assuming focus in the public discourse. It all went against the saffron party with Nitish and Lalu motivating Muslims to not vote for the BJP. Moreover, Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) was supposed to play a crucial role to mobilize voters but it failed drastically with the votes going in favour of the grand alliance ultimately. So much about vote bank politics in a caste-dominated state polls. 
 Next comes Nitish’s face with Lalu’s base that did the trick for the two. <keyword id="6358190" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nitish-Kumar">Nitish Kumar</keyword>'s popularity among Biharis is well known because he is recognized as a CM who has delivered good governance in Bihar in the last 10 years. The most popular CM candidate, Nitish’s door-to-door campaign ahead of the polls helped him strike a personal connect with the voters, while Lalu, who crafted the winning MY (Muslim-Yadav) combination to rule the state, managed to hold together his support base and ensured that they voted for the Mahagathbandhan candidates. 
 
As these two strong personas were fighting it hard on the ground, they stood againt a national party no doubt, but one that lacked a strong local face to win the trust of voters on the ground. Modi was once again put on the ground to steer votes towards BJP, not realizing that a disinterested local leadership was always going to be a big disadvantage for the party. Adding to this, the weak allies the party had - Ram Vilas Paswan's LJP; Jitan Ram Manjhi's HAM and Upendra Kushwaha's RLSP – hardly managed to get anything for the BJP. It’s no surprise because they were weak contenders from the beginning. 
 
All these factors coupled with a dieing Modi wave of course had very little in store for the BJP. It was but obvious, that Lalu-Nitish and their grand alliance had to have the last laugh!
