There’s no way laughter and sarcasm can take a back seat as long as the conscience is living! That’s the crux of the newly released video by Mumbai based stand up comedy group <keyword id="6468924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="All-India-Bakchod">All India Bakchod</keyword> (<keyword id="1875393" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword>) group. If you had thought their controversial roasting sessions having gone all wrong would deter them to take a sarcastic pick on societal norms, AIB proves it incorrect. 
 
The pair of videos doing rounds in the internet (read viral) is based on Indian wedding tradition and as usual AIB takes a dig at the so called customs. The first part shows how grooms are commodities up for sale in the market of marriage. In a hilarious way, the first video takes a note of the event till the ‘Sangeet’ ceremony. 
 
 
 
While the second part shows all crucial things happening and the couple going abroad for honeymoon, the focus is also on the elder ones asking about the future progenies.

Yes, we the global citizens are a sticky lot. We are connected into this big bad world through our smartphones, and we go to Google much more than we go to our spouses, siblings or parents or even friends – for any information. Then there is FB where the family drama is always the staple diet and the projection of pretentious falsehood is much higher than, say, even at weddings. 
 
When did we hear last about Internet being our only hope towards democracy? And, that people on Internet (nee social networking sites, read: trolls) literally live on their FB and twitter handles where they can express freely without any fear? In the world of fake ids and even more fake personalities, Internet has something that concerns all of us. The future of our children is at stake owing to the social networking habits. 
 There was a time when the news made it to the Internet. Today, Internet makes news. How else would a kid in some remote corner in Kerala or Karnataka or even Kashmir be bothered about All India Bakchod aka <keyword id="1875393" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword> roast? 
 
Forget Delhi elections, today people are bothered about why AIB was pulled off the Internet and if they can source the footage somehow to understand why such a furore was created around this ‘stand up comedy’ show put up by Bollywood and some of its ‘best’ minds? 
 
The supporters of AIB and those who oppose it can be broadly divided into few categories. There are those who didn’t like the tone and the tenor of the show and said this was BAD! Then there were those who didn’t like it, but wouldn’t oppose it because it managed to offend their regular offenders. Now, further, there are a few people who thought the show was downright ugly, while they stood the neutral ground. It was bad, simple. 
 Where does each one fit in? The question is even trickier to answer unless you understand the impact it has had on children and adults alike. What would you explain to a five year old who wants to know why <keyword id="3778" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karan-Johar">Karan Johar</keyword> didn’t mind being screwed by 10 men? And why Sonam Kapoor didn’t land up on the show for the same reason? And first and foremost, what does ‘Bakchod’ mean? Why is it a bad word? Why were people opposing it? 
 
With our mite, let’s defend our right to get offended, and someone’s right to offend us too. That’s about the grownups, who discuss things like freedom of expression, democracy, free country, free press, free Internet etc. Etc. etc… 
 
But, what really concerns us is where are we headed? Let’s say we even defend it owing to our allegiance towards democracy or even expression. How does a 5 or 10 year old understand it? How do you stop him/her from accessing it on the net and imitating the same tone and tenor, say, with his friends/classmates or relatives? 
 
Would you say it is okay for the grownups to do this, but children shouldn’t be doing it because it’s bad? Do you see the murky lane we have just started treading on? 
 
AIB was a show that was meant to crack some wise jokes. Bollywood and television gives us much more headache than AIB roast, since ages and on a daily basis. But, in those cases, you either have a censor board or an ombudsman whom you can go to. 
 
Internet is a completely unmonitored danger zone where we would have to really monitor our children from perpetrators. How do you save the kids from a perpetrator who makes his way into your living room, laughing along? Will you join him, or stop him? 
 
To say AIB was freedom of expression is half truth. The endgame is near and we know that could be the front we want to believe. But we won’t stand up against it for being deemed ‘primitive’ or ‘archaic’. We fear our modern image, and hence we try all our logic and reasoning to stop our children from following it. 
 
It’s a straight line. If you can discuss the word ‘Bakchod’ with your child without having to cringe at the thought, it would be fine to have such shows on. But, if your child wants to know why someone would ‘jerk off to’ Farida Jalal who is in her 70s, you really have a problem at hand. 
 
It would be integral to our knowledge to understand why it is not needed and why we could have done without it in the first place. Many actors have disassociated themselves from it. It would be better to debate on whether AIB is liberating or simply ranting, for our children’s sake. 
 
They may thank us for it, tomorrow.

AIB: You Have A Right To Offend, But…

Early last year, India’s most popular comedy collective <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=All+India+Bakchod+">All India Bakchod </a>broke new ground by organising the first ever roast. 
 
A popular concept abroad, the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=AIB+Knockout">AIB Knockout</a>, hosted at the NSCI auditorium in Worli, saw the funny four along with <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karan+Johar">Karan Johar</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Aditi+Mittal">Aditi Mittal</a> take digs at actors <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ranveer+Singh">Ranveer Singh</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Arjun+Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</a>, who played sporting victims. 
 
What they didn’t foresee was being slapped with FIRs on the participants and organisers on the ground of obscenity. 
 
The list of offenders thus included- the President of NSCI Jayantilal Shah, secretary general NSCI Ravinder Aggarwal and participants in the AIB Roast including <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Karan+Johar">Karan Johar</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ranveer+Singh">Ranveer Singh</a>, Rohan Joshi, Tanmay Bhatt, <keyword id="1359152" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gursimran-Khamba">Gursimran Khamba</keyword>, Ashish Shakya, Aditi Mittal, Deepika Padukone, Alia Bhatt, Rajeev Masand and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Arjun+Kapoor">Arjun Kapoor</a>. 
 
“To be really honest, none of us thought it would be this big an issue, even in our wildest dreams,” admits AIB’s <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Gursimran Khamba</a>, nearly a year after that incident, while speaking at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Coalition+India">Coalition India</a>. 
 
The case, however, is still on. 
 
Adding how they were flabbergasted at the news, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> admits their first reaction was disbelief. 
 
“I mean, come on. There are farmers dying in Maharashtra and you really want to make an issue out of this and give us three day primetime coverage?” 
 
Having cases against them did see several brands being wary of approaching them, but <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> thinks the most damaging impact was to their confidence. 
 
“We are obviously scared now. We’ll think twice before including a joke. But, there are times that I just don’t care and think, no matter what I’m going ahead with my sketch, but later I realised that can’t be the case anymore,” <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gursimran+Khamba">Khamba</a> adds. 
 
He says comedy is subjective, and admits they make content for a mature audience. “The reason we have Bakchod in our name is to let people know we’re for a select audience”, he adds. 
 
 “The only way you come out of something like this without getting scared in the future is if you don’t have a family to worry about or if you have the kind of money that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vijay+Mallya">Vijay Mallya</a> does,” he signs off.

Sunday wasn’t that lazy this time! Indians woke up to a viral storm on twitter with AIB (All India Bakchod), which got ‘roasted’ by moral police last month for their vulgar roast of actors is once again in news. This time the bunch of young standup comedians have a made video on net neutrality. Dipping their biscuits on the steaming morning tea, the viewers got an explained idea on the benefits of net neutrality. 
As per a news report in The Economic Times, the video explaining net neutrality, which was vastly shared by the netizens including Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan ended up being removed from Facebook due to unusually high activity. Though the takedown was temporary, this sparked a huge uproar in the social media. 
 
Indian telecom sector is undergoing a ‘to be or not to be’ internal conflict on net neutrality. Several telecom operators are pitching to price Internet usage according to their wish, which would mean the websites paying the operator would load fast where as the others suffer slow bandwidth. While some countries in the world including the USA have supported net neutrality, India is still to take a call on it. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) is asking for opinions from commoners on the same at <a href="http://www.savetheinternet.in">www.savetheinternet.in</a>. 
 
AIB’s video brought in comparison with an entry to a children’s park where kids are charged for each ride they take. As per the financial daily, the video went viral and helped the already growing online movement called "Save the Internet", and picked up steam as more startups, politicians, actors and other public figures came on board over the weekend. As the takedown of the video was noticed in Facebook by AIB members, the social networking website acted swiftly to restore it after several complaints surfaced. "Can you check now? there was a bug and it is fixed. The post should be visible again," Facebook's growth manager Abhishek Nag tweeted in response to a query by AIB group member Gursimran Khamba. 
 
The ET has reported, Shiv Sena Youth wing President Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday urged the TRAI chairman to halt the move to kill OTT services, which includes popular apps such as Whatsapp, Viber, Skype and so on, pointing out that access to Internet "cannot be governed by the commerce of the telecom operator, who should be rather focusing on bettering the services people pay for". The paper has drawn widespread flak from net and free speech activists, who feel it favours the interests of telecom companies, and have been asking people to join the movement to "Save the Internet" from telecom operators who want greater control over their network. 
 
On Sunday, several actors, such as Farhan Akhtar, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, and Siddharth Malhotra tweeted about net neutrality and save the Internet. Several political figures including Ajay Maken, Ahmed Patel, Sanjay Jha also tweeted in support of net neutrality.

If reports are to be believed, IIFA was a ride full of laughter, and the credit goes to the two actors who made an impressive stage debut, hosting the award ceremony for the first time. 
 
It’s no hidden fact that Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are mischief personified. We all got a glimpse of this in the infamous AIB Roast that took place last year, where the actors sportingly got roasted by a team of stand-up comedians, leaving the audience in splits. Even though the YouTube video was banned and FIRs were registered against both the actors as well as several others, the actors didn’t budge from talking about the reactions for the roast even at the IIFA night. 
 
The heartthrobs, who first worked together in Gunday, even had no qualms admitting their horrible performances in the film; however, they did so in their own mischievous style in front of the heaving Putra stadium in Kuala Lumpur. 
 
They started out in a serious tone, admitting to an act that offended many people and involved a famous director (hinting at Karan Johar who was present with them on the AIB Roast). However, just when everyone thought that they are serious about the roast, the duo quickly apologized for doing Gunday, which was a major critical failure. 
 
Not only that, they also sang a parody on Aamir Khan, who was very vocal on christening AIB roast as 'violent' rather than 'funny'. The actors sang "Hume maaf karna, O Aamir Khan. Hum kabhi nhi lenge Reema Lagoo and Farida Jalal ka naam." they sang. Actually, they had offended senior actors like Farida Jalal in the infamous roast, which had led to several negative reactions from the industry and Aamir Khan as well. 
 Hinting big time at the alleged romance between Ranveer and actress <keyword id="598" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepika-Padukone">Deepika Padukone</keyword>, Arjun didn’t leave a chance to tease his friend as Deepika came on stage to receive her award for the Woman of the Year. 
 
Later, Ranveer Singh went down on his knees in front of Deepika and gave her a red heart-shaped balloon, as Arjun stood in the corner, giving his friend the space that he wanted.

Apparently, Ranveer also asked Shahid if he would be invited at the latter’s wedding, the preparations for which are underway, to which he got downright rejected. Shahid later went on to win the award for the best actor in a leading role, for his titular role in the multi-award winning movie Haider.

Did Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor apologize for AIB Roast at IIFA?

When sixteen year old <keyword id="2995608" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Saloni-Patil">Saloni Patil</keyword> ( in picture above) moved to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Civic-Panel-Approves-Pune-Light-Rail-Project-Despite-Protest/articleshow/37172407.cms">Pune</a> for college, she’d already decided to start earning in order to support her family. But, she soon found out that it was easier said than done. 
 
Armed with nothing but determination, Patil visited school after school with hopes of landing up a teaching job. But, principals of every school seemed to have just one message for her- ‘No degree, no paid job.’ 
 
At the brink of giving up her search, she stumbled upon the students in Pune’s Blind School for Girls. What struck her what their eagerness to learn despite their obvious barriers. 
 
“I initially didn’t want to do it. But, I changed my mind looking at those girls and their need for education. That’s how I started volunteering here three years back,” recalled Patil. 
 
Since then, she has taught two batches of students appearing for HSC and SSC, and one batch of B.A students. The 30-odd students under her mostly needed help with English, though she taught them Maths, Economics, History as well. 
 
Apart from volunteering at the Blind School, Patil, a Mechanical Engineering student, writes for a few local publishers, keeps researching about the dots on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Amazing-Blind-And-Deaf-Chinese-Girl-Can-Read-Braille-With-Her-Lips/articleshow/21965324.cms">braille</a> kit to improvise on the techniques, paints avidly, and last but not the least, converts English titles to Braille so that her students can also read them. 
 
“I’ve translated all of Chetan Bhagat’s titles to braille. Right now, I’m working on translating APJ Abdul Kalam’s Wings of Fire,” says an excited Patil. 
 
Determined to share another passion of hers with the girls, Patil started teaching them how to paint, as well. The process turned out to be quite ardous as she soon found out. 
 
 
 
“I start by sketching the outline of the portrait. Once that is done, I study the dots on the braille kit and try matching them in such a way that it resembles the actual portrait. Then, I jot down the patterns of the dots and their numbers and give it to the girls to memorize and practice. Once they have memorized the patterns and numbers and get as close to the portrait as possible, I make them use glue and help them in pinning those dots,” explains Patil elaborating on the steps followed to execute a painting. 
 
She added that there is another pair of girls who are entrusted with the duty of putting sparkles on the empty spaces of the portrait. “They also need to memorize which spots would be empty in the portrait in order to sparkle efficiently,” 
 
Then, Patil steps in once again to give the portrait a final polish by doing the remaining bits. 
 
A number of paintings later, Patil and her students started gaining exposure when she decided to exhibit their work in college exhibitions and some local art exhibits, after being egged on by her family. 
 
Later, she sought the help of a few relatives and friends settled abroad who helped her advertise these paintings in America and Australia. Soon enough, the cash registers started ringing. “Painters abroad started contacting me online requesting for a copy of these <keyword id="2995609" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="braille-paintings">braille paintings</keyword> so that they could exhibit them in their studio. This way, the paintings started fetching us USDs and AUDs,” explains a triumphant Patil. 
 
 
 
When asked about the decision involved behind the subjects of these paintings, she was quick to add that they make paintings of things and people making news. “During elections, we would paint symbols like the lotus, broom or some cartoon figures to depict a political incident in a funny way. Then, after the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/AIB-You-Have-A-Right-To-Offend-But/articleshow/46144426.cms">AIB roast</a> made national news and everyone kept talking about it, we started sketching the <keyword id="1875393" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword> group members in Braille.” 
 
That was the jackpot, admits Patil. “Painting the faces of the AIB members gave us popularity and money. Orders for the same increased at a rapid rate in the last two months and what more? Tanmay Bhatt’s Braille painting helped us raise Rs. 1, 52,000” 
 
 
 
The money raised from these exhibitions is used for the daily needs of these children, some of whom have no family other than Saloni Patil, who bears their expenses. 
 
“There’s no going back now. These girls are my students and I intend to do everything to ensure they are taken care of, financially and educationally,” concludes Patil. 
 
Sky is definitely the limit for this young girl!

<ul><li>The <keyword id="5901457" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MeToo">#MeToo</keyword> movement has emerged in <keyword id="3658" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword>, again, with Bollywood celebrities, media personalities and politicians being called out on behaving inappropriately. </li><li>While some people have been forced to leave these respective jobs, others are filing defamation lawsuits. </li><li>Even, <keyword id="11647" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alok-Nath">Alok Nath</keyword>, the 'cultured elder' of Bollywood has been accused of sexual assault.</li></ul>Over the past three days, the #MeToo movement has been gaining momentum in India with women calling out people in Bollywood and men across India media on <keyword id="6354616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Twitter">Twitter</keyword>. The first allegation was leveled against <keyword id="1351295" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Utsav-Chakraborty">Utsav Chakraborty</keyword>, a member of a popular comedy group called <keyword id="6468924" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="all-india-bakchod">All India Bakchod</keyword> (<keyword id="1875393" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="AIB">AIB</keyword>). A female comedian accused him of sending her pictures of his genitalia without consent. Soon enough, other women stepped up to corroborate her account with their own incidences where the comedian has either asked them for naked photos or sent them inappropriate pictures of himself. It’s been three days and #MeToo movement has hit comedians, reporters, authors, actors and filmmakers. More importantly, and finally, it seems to have spurred some actual action and change. Impact so far While India’s #MeToo movement has been pushing a lot of important men from their positions in their respective industries, it is also witnessing people retaliating by filing defamation lawsuits against women. Some tweets have already started to disappear from the social messaging platform. In Bollywood, Vikas Bahl, one of the founders of Phantom Films, was accused of forcing himself upon one of the members of the crew and subsequently masturbating in front of her.  Reports also indicate that he’s been dropped from the show he was going to direct for Amazon Prime Video and will be left out of the movie promotions of Super 30. More heads went rolling soon after. The head of HR at AIB issued a statement communicating that with Chakraborty and <keyword id="1176647" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tanmay-Bhat">Tanmay Bhat</keyword>, AIB co-founder and CEO, stepping down, the future of the company was uncertain.  The comedy collective is being heavily criticized for its double standards where, on the one hand, they preached messages of equality and safety and on the other, they acted in the opposite manner in their own lives.  While these allegations are being addressed, there’s a parallel conversation about as to what counts as ‘consent’. Encounters range from ones that are downright creepy to those that included suggestive text messages, unwanted sexual advances and assault. All this has thrown the debate open wider - while some caution against judging anyone’s experience, others have been propagating that there should be a stricter definition of consent. But India’s #MeToo movement is far from over, there are new names and allegations surfacing every day. And honestly, if you ask us, this was a long time coming.

#MeToo movement gathers momentum in India

The crash, which took place on March 10, marked the second fatal crash of a nearly brand-new Boeing 737 Max airliner since October and precipitated the grounding of the global 737 Max fleet. The AIB's initial findings present data from the crashed plane's flight data recorder (FDR) which shows that faulty readings from a malfunctioning angle-of-attack (AOA) sensor triggered the 737 Max's Maneuvering Characteristic Augmentation System (MCAS) that is designed to automatically push the nose of the plane downward. "Shortly after liftoff, the value of the left angle of attack sensor deviated from the right one and reached 74.5 degrees while the right angle of attack sensor value was 15.3 degrees," the report said. In a statement, Boeing confirmed that the AOA sensor triggered MCAS just like it had done on Lion Air Flight JT610, which crashed on October 28 off the coast of Indonesia. "The preliminary report contains flight data recorder information indicating the airplane had an erroneous angle of attack sensor input that activated the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) function during the flight, as it had during the Lion Air 610 flight," Boeing said. More specifically, the first officer complained approximately three minutes into the flight that his controls to manually trim the aircraft stabilizers were not working. The preliminary report did not assign causation for the crash and a final report is expected at a later date.Boeing is currently working on a software update for the 737 Max's control system that will dial back the intrusiveness of MCAS."To ensure unintended MCAS activation will not occur again, Boeing has developed and is planning to release a software update to MCAS and an associated comprehensive pilot training and supplementary education program for the 737 Max," Boeing's statement said."As previously announced, the update adds additional layers of protection and will prevent erroneous data from causing MCAS activation," Boeing went on to say. "Flight crews will always have the ability to override MCAS and manually control the airplane."According to the Federal Aviation Administration, Boeing is expected to submit its package of potential fixes for regulatory approval in the coming weeks. <ul><li>As more and more cases of sexual harassments in India have come to light through the <keyword id="5901457" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MeToo">#MeToo</keyword> movement, the Indian government is setting up a <keyword id="6955125" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="4-judge-bench">4-judge bench</keyword> to address them.</li><li><keyword id="42851" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maneka-Gandhi">Maneka Gandhi</keyword> has also asked for extending the statute of limitations for reporting harassment to be increased to 10-15 years rather than just 3 months. </li><li>The ministry has also set up alternative methods of registering a complaint, in case victims don’t want to reach out to their respective Internal Complaints Committees.</li></ul>The #MeToo movement in India seems to finally be tipping towards action with the Maneka Gandhi, the minister of Women &amp; Child Development, stating that public hearings will be conducted to hear these cases of <keyword id="46530" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-assault">sexual assault</keyword> and harassment.

 A bench of four retired judges will be put in place by the ministry to hear out the cases that have surfaced during the #MeToo movement. The ministry’s also set up a dedicated portal for women to make their complaints, in case they don’t want to go to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), called ‘She-Box’. According to the notice by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, complainants can also reach out via email or tweet directly using the hashtag #HelpMeWCD.

 Gandhi’s also written to the law ministry to increase the time for reporting sexual assault to 10-15 years later. Currently, India’s laws against <keyword id="16048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="sexual-harassment">sexual harassment</keyword> entailed in the POSH Act only allow victims to report harassment within 3 months of it happening. She added that “You will always remember the person who did it...Anger at sexual molestation never goes away.”

 The movement in India was started by a female stand up comedian, who accused Utsav Chakraborty of sending across unsolicited photos of his genitals. A frequent collaborator with All India Bakchod (AIB), India’s prominent comic collective, Chakraborty was fired. Even Tanmay Bhat, the CEO of AIB, stepped down in lieu of inaction despite knowing about the events that had transgressed. A number of women have spoken up there after calling out many eminent Bollywood personalities, including Sajid Khan, Subhash Ghai, Nana Patekar and Alok Nath, the supposed Babuji (elder) in the industry. Allegations have also been levelled against the junior minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the political editor at Hindustan Times and a senior Tata Motors executive.

Recently <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Facebook">Facebook</a> CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Mark+Zuckerberg">Mark Zuckerberg</a> held a Townhall at IIT Delhi, and even wrote a lengthy article in the Times of India justifying his stand (<a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/internet/free-basics-protects-net-neutrality-mark-zuckerberg-facebook-ceo/articleshow/50350374.cms">Source</a>).
