There was a time when start-ups had to keep aside a large portion of their capital for infrastructure. But over the past few years, Cloud has become the preferred infrastructure mode for start-ups, helping them grow and scale rapidly. <keyword id="285445" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dropbox">Dropbox</keyword>, <keyword id="2407602" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="99-Designs">99 Designs</keyword>, <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword>, <keyword id="1652104" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Parse">Parse</keyword> and RedBus are some of the examples where Cloud played a significant role in their success. In fact, within a few years, these start-ups are turning into midsized companies with decent IT budgets set aside for hosting and other infrastructural requirements. Realising the growth potential in this space, Cloud service providers started to lure early-stage start-ups to host their products on their Cloud platforms. <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword>, Microsoft, Google, Rackspace and IBM have specific programmes designed for start-ups, so that they can easily get started on Cloud. These technology biggies are partnering with reputed incubators and accelerators to support their portfolio companies. Microsoft has gone a step ahead and invested in its own accelerator to attract start-ups to its Azure Cloud platform. 
 
Here are five resources for start-ups who want to join the Cloud bandwagon. 
 
1. <keyword id="141088" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Amazon-Web-Services">Amazon Web Services</keyword> (AWS) 
As one of the first Cloud platforms, AWS is the preferred platform for many start-ups across the world. It’s very common to see start-ups spin a couple of EC2 instances to launch their minimal viable products. But to make it more attractive for start-ups, Amazon has a programme called <a href="http://aws.amazon.com/activate/">AWS Activate</a>, which offers a slew of benefits. For a start-up that is a member of one of the accelerators, seed funds or other start-up organisations, Amazon offers free credits ranging between $1,000 and $15,000, along with technical training programmes and free business level support. 
 
2. IBM 
SoftLayer, an IBM company, has a start-up incubator called <a href="http://www.softlayer.com/catalyst">Catalyst</a>. With 13 data centres in the US, Asia and Europe, it is a viable choice for start-ups. Just like its competitors, SoftLayer has partnered with incubators and accelerators around the world to support the start-up ecosystem. Eligible start-ups get $1,000 monthly credit to host their applications on SoftLayer’s infrastructure. 4. Microsoft Azure 
<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/BizSpark/">Microsoft BizSpark</a> programme is one of the oldest and popular programmes among the technology start-ups. Eligible companies get almost every piece of software that Microsoft ships, including access to Azure, its flagship Cloud platform. In part because the firm never needed the money. Buildkite achieved profitability in the first month after launching in 2013, cofounder and CEO Lachlan Donald told Business Insider by charging for its products right off the bat, rather than offering a "freemium" product like many other startups. That model has really forced it to make its product shine brighter than other free competitors, he adds. "The biggest challenge for us is telling people about Buildkite. This is the best CI/CD tool that every company needs. A man from New Zealand fell down a 9 metre hole in China, broke his back, and has just turned the horrific accident into a new slapstick mobile game.

Major says he had no warning about the accident. He was walking past a construction site in Beijing when the earth just gave way.
When he woke, with a fractured spine, sore head, and broken pieces of plank all around him, his sole memory was the "free falling plummet". He lay in the shaft an hour before being rescued. He adds that he suffered a "compression fracture" and while he's now fully recovered, still endures pain and limited mobility in his upper body.
Major writes: "Seven years ago, things went very wrong for me when I fell 9 metres down a hole in Beijing, resulting in a broken back. It was an incredibly close call since about 7 metres down, there was a plank that I went crashing through. This crash slowed me down and was highly likely a lifesaver."
Quite remarkably, he's now used the accident to make what looks like a really fun, colourful game. In it, users are thrust into Major's harrowing journey and play as a cartoon version of him. Although, he concedes, he's made his beard hair a little more ginger.
"You guide me through a Beijing construction shaft as I plummet," <a href="http://brokenbackgames.com/press-release/">he says in a press release.</a>&#xa0;"The hole is randomly generated so each turn is never the same experience. Awesome cartoon graphics are based on the real hole and myself."

Major explains that he designed Plummet after losing his job. With time on his hands he decided to "make good art" out of "the most painful experience" of his life. He says he modelled the gameplay style of the notorious Flappy Bird and the ever popular Temple Run, with an endless game style that allows quick play any time - with the sole purpose of achieving a high score.
He sketched the initial cartoons himself and then enlisted the help of a Serbian designer and a Romanian app developer to build the game. It was finalised and posted for review on Dec. 30.

And then they all but disappeared.Business Insider has found a few clues, however.&#xa0;In November 2015, the&#xa0;pair's mentor, Thrun, tried to find&#xa0;some new talent for the startup, which he&#xa0;described as "well-funded.""I have an amazing job opportunity in Silicon Valley. A small, first-rate, well-funded team is seeking to hire an RGBD perception expert to help build the 'eyes of the smart home'," Thrun <a href="http://robotics-worldwide.1046236.n5.nabble.com/robotics-worldwide-jobs-Seeking-RGBD-perception-expert-tp5712746.html">wrote in a robotics forum</a>. (Interested applicants had to e-mail Edwin Jarvis, a cheeky nod to the AI&#xa0;butler from the "Iron Man" series.)Also, at some point&#xa0;Teichman <a href="https://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/totally-kind-security-camera-needs-creative-inspiration-450947">posted a plea on 99Designs</a>, a website for freelance logo design, looking for an image to go with the name at the time, Snitch: "I'm building an intelligent home security system that uses a totally new kind of camera and can understand what it's seeing, rather than just detecting that something changed," Teichman wrote. "It's super cool but I can't draw for s--. Help!"The winning design, a grey-and-blue camera, can be found&#xa0;on two&#xa0;websites: Kortschak Investments and Playground Global.Playground Global <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/andy-rubin-global-playground-raising-300-million-2015-4">is run by Andy Rubin</a>, the creator of the Android operating system who left Google in October 2014&#xa0;to start a hardware incubator. Turns out that Dahlkamp and Teichman have been incubating the company in Rubin's Playground Global over the last year, <a href="http://www.embedded-vision.com/forums/2016/02/24/self-driving-cars-next-endeavor">according to a job posting</a> from their recruiter Doreen Xia on a computer vision forum.<h2>From Snitch to Lighthouse</h2>Although Playground is a hardware incubator, according to <a href="http://www.trademarkia.com/company-snitch-inc-4501870-page-1-2">new trademark filings</a>, the young company is now more concerned with software for security cameras - and it has a new name: Lighthouse.The trademark covers&#xa0;computer software for a range of tasks, from viewing and analyzing video to operating, managing, and monitoring security systems. The trademark covers not only the&#xa0;computer software but also "software as a service",&#xa0;or a licensing model that would let people subscribe to using the software over time.Today, <a href="http://light.house/">Lighthouse's website</a> only teases something "Coming soon."The company declined to talk to Business Insider. Andy Rubin, Playground Global, and Sebastian Thrun didn't respond to request for comment.&#xa0;Still, venture capitalists are buzzing about it, wondering if it could dethrone Google's Nest in the camera market. Since it's not making its own camera, unlike Nest which acquired Dropcam, it will have a harder time getting its software in the hands of people, one investor speculated.&#xa0;Others are excited to see the technology behind self-driving cars be applied to other areas beyond the much-hyped automotive space.
