 Suri shared that after developed economics, emerging markets like India and Latin America will see the 5G roll outs happen by 2021 — emphasizing that security will be a top priority considering that millions of trade secrets will be shared over the 5G network. 5G vendors claim India’s next-gen network rollout will still happen as scheduled

Telcos reportedly urge government to skip local testing to avoid 5G phone shortage

The company said in a statement to IANS that it is currently working with operator partners for a seamless roll-out of the 5G experience for users. "We are working closely with our operator partners and are committed to rolling out OTA updates across all our 5G devices by the middle of November 2022, enabling Indian consumers to experience 5G seamlessly," a <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> spokesperson told IANS. "Samsung has pioneered 5G technology development since 2009 and took the leading role in standardising 5G technology globally," the company spokesperson added. In India, Samsung has the widest portfolio of 5G devices. The announcement came as the government convened a meeting of handset manufacturers and telecom service providers on Wednesday to ensure a smooth transition towards the new technology. Samsung says will roll out 5G software update by mid-November in India

The country also increased two spots in rank globally for overall median fixed broadband speeds, from 81st in December to 79th in January, according to network intelligence and connectivity insights provider <keyword id="2431974" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ookla" source="Orion">Ookla</keyword>. Overall fixed median download speeds in India saw a slight increase from 49.14 Mbps in December to 50.02 Mbps in January. In November, India ranked at 105th position, globally in median mobile speeds. Ookla also recorded 29.85 Mbps median mobile download speeds in January this year which is better than 25.29 Mbps in December 2022. The UAE leads the chart for overall global median mobile speeds, whereas Papua New Guinea increased 24 spots in rank globally. For fixed broadband download speeds, Singapore is consistent at the top spot while Cyprus increased 20 spots in rank globally. As 5G rolls out, India jumps 10 spots in median mobile speeds globally: Ookla

Delivering the virtual keynote address at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC), Ambani said that to keep millions of Indians at the bottom of the socio-economic pyramid confined to 2G is to deprive them of the benefits of the digital revolution. The roll out of 5G should be India's national priority. Jio has developed a 100 per cent home-grown and comprehensive 5G solution which is fully cloud native and digitally managed. Because of its converged, future-proof architecture, Jio's network could be quickly and seamlessly upgraded from 4G to 5G," he emphasised. The 5G technology will represent around 39 per cent of mobile subscriptions in India at the end of 2027, estimated at about 500 million subscriptions, a new Ericsson report said last month. According to latest data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has more than 44.38 crore subscribers. Ambani said that affordability has been a critical driver of the phenomenally rapid expansion of mobile subscriber base in India. "When we talk of affordability in the policy context, we only think of affordability of services. Actually, India needs to ensure affordability not only of services, but also of devices and applications," he added. During the Covid times, Jio was able to introduce Fibre-to-Home to five million homes. "If all the players in the industry work together, we can rapidly achieve a nationwide footprint of fibre, just as we reached mobile telephony to every corner of the country in the last decade," said Ambani. Apple has reportedly informed ET that an update to enable 5G services will be rolled out in December. "We are working with our carrier partners in India to bring the best 5G experience to iPhone users as soon as network validation and testing for quality and performance are completed. 5G will be enabled via a software update and will start rolling out to iPhone users in December," Apple said in a statement to ET. This means that iPhone users may have to wait for a long time before they will be able to use 5G services. As the Cupertino giant has said that the updates will “start rolling out to iPhone users in December”, it may take some time before all users receive the update, so, users may have to wait until next year to use 5G on iPhones. New Delhi, <keyword id="9912774" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g-smartphone-shipments" source="Orion">5G smartphone shipments</keyword> in India crossed 10 crore (100 million) in the month of May, creating a record as 5G roll-out continues to happens at a very fast pace in the country. According to data shared by market intelligence firm CyberMedia Research (CMR) to IANS, Since its initial introduction, 5G smartphone shipments have grown more than 28 times. "In May, 5G shipments accounted for 48% of the smartphone market, with Samsung leading the 5G market, closely followed by OnePlus and Vivo. Collectively, these three brands captured a combined 5G market share of 60 per cent," Shipra Sinha, analyst, Industry Intelligence Group, CMR, told IANS. As 5G roll-out now reaches most of the regions in India, The 5G smartphone market is expected to expand by more than 70 per cent (on-year) by the end of this year. The India smartphone market recorded more than 13 times growth in its 5G shipments from the year of its initial introduction in 2020. In CY2022, close to 100 <keyword id="3900349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g-smartphones" source="Orion">5G smartphones</keyword> were launched in the India market. The key for mass 5G adoption in India will depend, among others, on the introduction of 5G smartphones in the affordable smartphone segment (less than Rs 10,000), according to an earlier CMR study. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel begun rolling out their 5G networks from October 2022, and have covered most parts in the country.

5G smartphone shipments cross 10 crore market in India for first time

New Delhi, Feb 3 () Electronic chipset firm MediaTek on Monday said it expects to roll out new gaming-focussed chipsets G70 and G80 in 5-7 smartphone models by June in India.
 The company has partnered with smartphone firm Realme to roll out the first smartphone on G70 chipsets this month.
 "On a global level, gaming has overtaken films as preferred leisure activity. We have come up with G70 and G80 series that will bring premium features in affordable range of devices," MediaTek India Managing Director Anku Jain told .
 He said MediaTek is in talks with several partners for their roll-out and expects that 5-7 smartphone models in India will have these chipsets by the second quarter.
 Meanwhile, Realme announced the roll-out of its first smartphone with G70 chipset.
 "Realme C3 will be the first smartphone in India to feature the world's first MediaTek Helio G70. We will also be the first brand to launch MediaTek Helio G80 in India soon. Continuing to strengthen our association with MediaTek, we will be coming up with more smartphones with MediaTek Helio G70 and Helio G80, offering a 'power meets style' experience for more massive users in India," Realme India Chief Executive Officer Madhav Seth said in a statement.
 Last year, MediaTek rolled out its gaming-focussed chipsets G90 and G90T, which was adopted by Xiaomi for Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone priced in the medium range.

Vaghela on Friday said that introduction of <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> technology will enable India to achieve the digital empowerment goal and improve the well-being of the people. "5G technology would offer significant improvements in network performance and is likely to transform industries and society, putting the country on an unprecedented growth trajectory. 5G would have a massive impact on various industries and on the overall economy," he said at a workshop here. Vaghela also said that India is the second largest telecom market in the world now with 117 crore telecom subscribers and 825 million broadband subscribers. He said that India has considered technology as a key element for two things, one for rapid economic growth and the second for social and digital inclusion. According to him, the Digital India programme has helped a lot in expanding the use of technology and the Digital India profile has seen a huge change in various sectors. The TRAI chief also highlighted how the stakeholders can cooperate for expediting infrastructure rollout for 5G deployment considering the issues and challenges in the northeastern states. He said that the main focus of the government is to provide internet and digital access to everyone, including underserved people, to ensure that every section of society gets connectivity at any cost. About the need of adopting new digital technology for social and economic development, Vaghela said that digitalisation of the economy and also social life is of utmost importance in today's world. Emphasising the need for digital literacy and digital infrastructure, he said that the development of digital infrastructure and connectivity to every household is a must and this is the only way a common citizen becomes able to explore the opportunities available in an economy. India improves global ranking for mobile speeds amid 5G rollout

Telecom operator Bharti <keyword id="15491" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="airtel" source="Orion">Airtel</keyword> overtook <keyword id="6354504" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-jio" source="Orion">Reliance Jio</keyword> in <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G" source="Orion">5G</keyword> roll-out with the expansion of the network to additional 235 cities, taking its total reach to 500 cities. Reliance Jio has so far announced the expansion of its ultra high-speed fifth generation (5G) network to 406 cities. "Bharti Airtel...ultra-fast 5G service is available to customers in 500 cities in the country. Airtel added 235 cities to its network, making it one of the largest roll-outs to date," the company said in a statement. Airtel said that it is adding 30-40 cities on its 5G network daily. "Airtel was the first to offer 5G services in October 2022, and today's mega launch is our promise to connect every Airtel customer in the country with ultra-fast <keyword id="4237866" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Airtel-5G" source="Orion">Airtel 5G</keyword> Plus. We have already covered 500 cities and are adding 30 to 40 cities every single day. By September of 2023, we expect to expand our 5G footprint to all of urban India," Bharti Airtel CTO Randeep Sekhon said. According to industry players, India has become the fastest country in the world to roll-out 5G networks. Against the target of rolling out 5G in 200 cities before March 31 set by the government, the service is now available in over 900 cities. Airtel said that its 5G Plus runs on a technology that has the widest acceptance in the world with the most developed ecosystem which ensures that all 5G smartphones in India seamlessly work on the Airtel network. "Second, the company promises to deliver the best experience - between 20 to 30 times higher speeds than today (compared to 4G) coupled with a brilliant voice experience and super-fast call connect," the statement said. Airtel has also removed the 5G data usage limit cap to match with Jio's offer. Earlier 5G data usage was limited to the same as the daily quota which customers had in their 4G subscription plan. "Customers will now be able to experience ultra-fast, reliable and secure 5G Plus services without having to worry about data exhaustion as the company removes the capping on data usage across all existing plans," the statement said. The company has also deployed the first 5G private network at Bosch facility in Bengaluru, and also at Mahindra &amp; Mahindra's Chakan manufacturing facility to make it the first 5G-enabled auto manufacturing unit. Airtel pips Jio in 5G rollout, reaches 500 cities across the country

As 5G roll-out picks up speed thanks to Reliance Jio and Airtel, <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> climbed four spots for median mobile speeds globally in the month of April, from 64th position in March to 60th, a report said on Wednesday. Median mobile download speeds in India increased from 33.30 Mbps in March to 36.35 Mbps in April, according to network intelligence and connectivity insights provider Ookla. Overall, India showed improvement in its global ranking for median fixed broadband speeds, moving from the 84th position in March to the 83rd position in April. The country's performance in fixed median download speeds witnessed a slight increase from 50.71 Mbps in March to 51.12 Mbps in April. Qatar led the chart for global median mobile speeds, whereas Senegal jumped 16 spots in rank globally. For overall global fixed median speeds, Bahrain registered the highest increase in rank, jumping by 14 spots globally, with Singapore sustaining the first spot this month as well. In January, India ranked at 69th position globally in median mobile speeds, while, in February, India ranked at 67th position. Meanwhile, Qualcomm is rolling out 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) in collaboration with Reliance Jio to serve millions of residents in India, the chip-maker's President and CEO Cristiano Amon has said, as the country doubles down on providing 5G services to all by the end of the year. With the roll-out of 5G in India, the global chip-maker had bolstered its efforts with Reliance Jio to help it fast connect 100 million homes through its 5G FWA, including the millimetre wave (mmWave).
