<keyword id="19908736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Army" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Indian Army" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Indian Army">Indian army</keyword> has inducted the first-ever <keyword id="20068291" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indigenous" source="keywords">indigenous</keyword> <keyword id="22234520" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="chip-based" source="keywords">chip-based</keyword> 4G mobile base station, which it procured from Bangalore-based firm <keyword id="22234519" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Signaltron" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Signaltron" meta.hostid="153" meta.entityid="Signaltron">Signaltron</keyword> through the government e-marketplace portal, a top company official said. Signaltron founder Himamshu Khasnis told PTI that the chip used in the Sahyadri LTE base stations has been developed by Signalchip. <br /><br />Earlier in 2010, Khasnis and his team founded a fabless semiconductor company Signalchip to make chips for 4G and 5G networks. <br /><br />"Signaltron has built the entire system indigenously using India's first chips for 4G and 5G networks developed by Signalchip. This is the first time an Indian system running on an Indian chip for complex communication technology has been inducted into the army. Using indigenous chips gives a high degree of control on the security of the system in its operation," Khasnis said. <br /><br />He said the Indian Army had posted a bid on GeM (Government e-Marketplace) for the supply of 4G LTE NIB (Network In a Box) solution last year. <br /><br />"Signaltron proposed the Sahyadri NIB solution and came out successful in stringent technical trials. Subsequently, Signaltron also won the competitive bid to supply the equipment. Weighing just 7 kgs, Sahyadri Network In a Box (NIB) systems provide high-quality secure wireless communication for audio, video and data applications," Khasnis said. <br /><br />He said the Sahyadri NIB is capable of working in both standalone and cellular modes and capable of seamless inter-operation with legacy analogue and IP telephony systems. <br /><br />The majority of the base stations deployed in India are not made in India. Even the few that are made in India do not have indigenous chips inside, which is the most strategic and important component of modern electronic devices and equipment. <br /><br />Signaltron has supplied 20 units to the army and the deployment of the base stations depends on their strategic requirement, Khasnis said. <br /><br />"We have supplied 20 units to the army. The Army takes its own call on when and where to deploy base station. Since they are light and mobile units, it gives them the flexibility to change the location as per their requirement," he added. <br /><br />At present, there is no fabrication facility in India for modern semiconductor chips. Signalchip has designed the chip indigenously and owns the entire technology that the chips deliver. In a model similar to leading semiconductor companies like Nvidia, Qualcomm, Mediatek etc, Signalchip also gets its chips fabricated through third-party wafer fabs. <br /><br />Khasnis said the Indian base station market is expected to be about USD 24 billion by 2029. <br /><br />"With the use of indigenous systems, there could be significant savings to forex and also boost GDP. There are sizeable market volumes available in India and worldwide. Indian Army inducts first-ever indigenous chip-based made in India 4G base station from Signaltron

From uncrewed moon landings and lunar sample returns to human spaceflight, India’s expanding space program is set to strengthen its position in the global <keyword id="20114940" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="space-race" source="keywords">space race</keyword>. Under ISRO Chairman S. Somanath’s leadership, India’s space exploration vision includes high-stakes projects like Chandrayaan-4, Chandrayaan-5 and the human spaceflight mission Gaganyaan, positioning the nation as a significant player in space exploration.<br /><h2>Chandrayaan-4: India’s first <keyword id="23227406" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lunar-sample-return" source="keywords">lunar sample return</keyword> mission<br /></h2>Chandrayaan-4, scheduled for 2028, is one of India’s most anticipated upcoming missions. This mission aims to collect approximately 3 kilograms (about 6.6 pounds) of lunar samples from a water-ice-rich area near the moon’s south pole. Water ice in the lunar south pole is a prized resource, as it holds the potential to support life support systems and rocket fuel production, making it essential for long-term lunar exploration. Though the United States and Russia completed similar missions decades ago, Somanath highlighted that achieving this feat today is still both complex and costly. India, however, is determined to carry out this mission efficiently, with a budget of 21 billion rupees (roughly $250 million USD).<br /><br />Chandrayaan-4’s mission plan is highly intricate, relying on five spacecraft modules that will require two launches from ISRO’s powerful LVM-3 rocket. This setup includes modules for the lander, sample-collecting vehicle, transfer module, and a reentry module parked in lunar orbit to safely deliver the collected samples back to Earth. To practise in-orbit docking — a critical component of this mission — ISRO is set to launch a $14 million docking experiment (SPADEX) later this year or in early 2025, marking an essential step toward ensuring the mission's success.<br />    <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="111455720" title="ISRO&amp;#39;s Chandrayaan-3 moon mission continues to uncover lunar treasures at Shiv Shakti point" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div><br /><h2>A step beyond with Chandrayaan-5</h2>Following Chandrayaan-4, ISRO plans to launch Chandrayaan-5 in collaboration with the Japanese space agency, JAXA. The joint mission aims to leverage strengths of both space agencies, with ISRO developing the lander and JAXA providing the rover. <br /><br />Shortly after Chandrayaan-3’s Vikram lander and Pragyan rover had landed near the Moon’s South Pole, Japan’s Smart Lander had landed upside down near the lunar equator. While theC-3’s rover failed to awaken after the lunar night, JAXA’s rover did survive the lunar night and even snapped pictures of the lunar surface after that!<br /><br />This mission, also known as the Lunar Polar Exploration Project (LUPEX), will carry a 770-pound rover contributed by Japan, a significant upgrade from the 60-pound Pragyan rover deployed on Chandrayaan-3. Chandrayaan-5 will further strengthen India’s presence on the moon, targeting the resource-rich south pole, an area of growing international interest. The mission will come after Chandrayaan-4, but S Somnath has confirmed that the plan for the mission is ready already!<br /><h2>Gaganyaan: India’s first human spaceflight<br /></h2>Perhaps the most exciting of India’s upcoming space projects is Gaganyaan, a mission set to take India’s first astronauts to low Earth orbit by 2026. Originally scheduled for 2025, the timeline was extended to prioritise astronaut safety amid recent setbacks in the industry. Recognising the significance of this mission, the Indian government allocated an additional Rs 111 billion to Gaganyaan, bringing the program closer to launch.<br /><br />ISRO’s cautious approach includes a series of uncrewed test flights to evaluate critical systems. An uncrewed test flight, G1, is scheduled for December and will carry a humanoid robot named Vyomitra to test reentry, parachute deployment, and splashdown capabilities. Following G1, three more uncrewed missions will complete this rigorous testing phase. The mission’s crew, including Indian Air Force test pilot Shubhanshu Shukla, has been undergoing intensive training both in India and abroad, including a stint with Axiom Space at the International Space Station (ISS), where Shukla is training under former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson.<br /><br />Meanwhile, ISRO’s ambitious roadmap also includes future goals to land astronauts on the moon by 2040 and potentially establish a moon base before 2050. With these projects, India is set to establish itself as a formidable force in space exploration. The monitor is quite bright and I found myself using it mostly around the 50% mark.<br /><br />The screen is factory-calibrated for MacBook, allowing you to start using it immediately without worrying about colour calibration. It also offers an M-Book mode to sync the colour settings between your device and the monitor.<br /><br />BenQ has also offered the Hotkey Puck G2 with the monitor. This can be connected to the monitor and allows you to control the on-screen menu. These are enough to watch a quick video, listen to music or just for notifications. While these are good to have, they are not a replacement for a pair of headphones. While the price may look on the higher side, it is relatively affordable when compared to the Apple Studio Display which starts at ₹1,59,900. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Shared Access worked with a football club to power headsets for fans with visual impairments.</li><li>It installed a private 5G network for fast connectivity and nearly instantaneous streaming.</li></ul><p><em>This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Sam Jackman, the chief development officer of Shared Access, a European company that develops mobile-connectivity solutions. The following has been edited for length and clarity.</em></p><p>My company, Shared Access, has been working with the Crystal Palace Football Club in London for years to improve <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-5g-technology-leaves-connectivity-legacy-in-olympic-host-cities-2024-8">connectivity</a> at its stadium, Selhurst Park.</p><p>It started when Vodafone approached Shared Access to help build a system for the stadium that ensures great service even when all 30,000 fans are trying to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paris-olympics-internet-connection-5g-mobile-technology-2024-7">use their phones at once</a>.</p><p>Last year, the Crystal Palace team came to us for help supporting a specific cohort of fans: those with visual impairments. In partnership with <a target="_blank" href="https://www.givevision.net/">GiveVision</a>, they were working on deploying headsets that <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5g-tech-innovations-behind-paris-olympic-games-connectivity-timeline-2024-8">stream live match footage</a> directly to fans with partial sight, allowing them to sit anywhere in the stadium but see every moment in sync with the pitch action — and they needed <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/5g-advanced-standalone-6g-qualcomm-huawei-mwc-2024-3">faster connectivity</a> to make it happen.</p><h2 id="a62d967b-58dc-4173-a02e-13c9a124d3fe">The existing networks weren't cutting it</h2><p>Before coming to us, the team working on the project tried running the headsets over WiFi, but there was too much latency. People using the headsets experienced everything on a slight delay, with the fans around them reacting to something on the field before they could see the action.</p><p>The 4G network that we'd previously deployed with Vodafone, and even public 5G networks, weren't going to do the job. Public networks have a lot of firewalls and protocols that create additional delays, such as the need for data to travel from the stadium to the core network of a mobile operator outside the stadium and then back to the user. It's also difficult because the number of other users using the network inside the venue slows things down.</p><p>We decided to install a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-private-wireless-connectivity-changing-airport-experience-aviation-mwc-2024-10">private 5G network</a> with an on-site core in the stadium. This allows for fully enclosed connectivity within the venue, avoiding external data transfer and eliminating the security-protocol challenges of major mobile-network operators. It provides nearly instantaneous performance, with faster speeds than 4G and even purer 5G speeds than most public users experience. Additionally, because the club has total control over who can use the network, it can ensure all the bandwidth goes to these headsets only.</p><p>On September 21, we officially launched the program, making Crystal Palace FC the first football club in the world to offer a permanent vision-enhancement system at its stadium for fans with sight impairments. Since we've launched, we've seen more fans with visual impairments who previously didn't think coming to a game was worth it show up and have a great experience.</p><h2 id="aeed7829-1de0-4bc7-8572-0328ee6a1095">Future applications for private 5G networks</h2><p>While helping these fans see is more than enough justification for implementing this private network, there are also so many <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-edge-computing-5g-cloud-artificial-intelligence-2024-3">opportunities</a> for how the tech could be used.</p><p>For instance, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/barcelona-market-la-boqueria-5g-ar-personal-shoppers-2023-9">food and beverage vendors</a> could use the private network to power their tills, allowing the stadium to expand its food offerings to areas that previously didn't have strong enough connectivity. Security cameras could be installed in places where it's physically too difficult to get power and fiber wiring. Broadcasters may be able to use private 5G to get footage out more quickly, and without having to deploy as much equipment to the stadium, which would reduce the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/paris-olympics-how-5g-tech-could-curb-environmental-impact-2024-7">carbon footprint</a> of their work.</p><p>It doesn't have to be just sports, either. I'd suggest any kind of venue to consider: What are your problems? What are the things you'd love to do but think you can't because of connectivity?</p><p>Ultimately, having the foundation of this private network allows so much room for creativity in terms of what you can layer on top of it. Twelve months ago, I'd never heard of GiveVision's headsets, and it had never thought about using a private 5G network, so this collaboration ended up being perfect. Who knows what other applications are out there? I hope other partners and vendors collaborate just as imaginatively to come up with possibilities.</p>

Airtel accelerates 5G revolution by re-farming mid-band spectrum to meet surging demand, enhance browsing speed

<ul><li><strong>Airtel has installed <keyword id="9628344" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5G-base-stations" source="Orion">5G base stations</keyword> at airports in Nagpur, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Guwahati and Pune.</strong></li><li><strong>Jio has installed <keyword id="7253606" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="5g-base" source="Orion">5G base</keyword> stations in the Delhi-NCR area.</strong></li><li><strong>The new rule will be applicable till the replacement of all aircraft Radio Altimeters filters is ensured by the DGCA.</strong></li></ul>The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sent a letter to telecom providers Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone not to install C-band <keyword id="764355" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="5g" source="Orion">5G</keyword> base stations within the 2.1 km range of Indian airports with immediate effect, as C-Band 5G can create problems with the aircraft's radio (radar) altimeters, which they rely on during takeoff and landing, and to help avoid crashing into mountains.<br /><br />The DoT letter, seen by IANS, said that the telecom service providers (TSPs) are advised that "in the area 2,100 meters from both ends of runway and 910 meters from centre line of runway of Indian Airports shall have no 5G/ IMT base stations in the 3,300-3,670 MHz".<br /><br />"The base station, nodal or repeater installed in the periphery of 540 metres surrounding the area, the maximum power must be limited to 58 dBm/ MHz in 3,300-3,670 MHz range," the letter said.<br /><br />Airtel has installed 5G base stations at airports in Nagpur, Bengaluru, New Delhi, Guwahati and Pune, While Jio has installed 5G base stations in the Delhi-NCR area.<br /><br />According to the DoT letter, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has provided the buffer and safety zone sketch and has requested to ensure mitigation measures while implementing C-band 5G spectrum, in and around the airport areas in view of the safety concerns for operation of aircrafts.<br /><br />The DoT asked telecom providers to ensure downward tilting of 5G base stations to an extent such that the 5G emissions do not interfere with radio altimeters.<br /><br />The new rule will be applicable till the replacement of all aircraft Radio Altimeters filters is ensured by the DGCA.<br /><br />"It is expected that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will proactively ensure the above in a time-bound and expeditious manner.
