The watchmaker on Thursday unveiled the Fossil Sport, a $255 smartwatch that comes in six colors and has two standout internal features: the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-new-wear-os-smartwatch-review-2018-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">new Wear OS</a>, Google's new smartwatch operating system; and the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip, which should give the watch better battery life and new abilities. Fossil says the new watch is aimed at a "design-conscious consumer," which is why the company opted for so many colors. Typically, smartwatches only come in two or three options, but the Fossil sport will come in silver, gold, dark gray, red, blue, and pink.More varied color options, and more brightly colored options at that, seems to be a trend this fall: in September, Apple introduced <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-iphone-xr-upgrading-from-iphone-5s-6-6s-7-2018-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the iPhone XR</a>, which comes in six bright colors. "We know our consumers want versatility both in their activity and their accessories, which is why we wanted to bring a smartwatch to market that is a fit for every style," Steve Evans, executive vice president of Fossil Group, said in a press release about the new watch.The Fossil Sport will also come in two case sizes, 41 mm and 43 mm, which are roughly the same sizes as an Apple Watch Series 4 (though, clearly, a different shape). For its part, Fossil says the Sport watch should get 24 hours of battery life, plus an additional two days in battery saver mode, which is a feature of the new chip. The new chip should also provide a few other nice features, like an enhanced "ambient mode" and some better watch faces, although Fossil hasn't given much more detail than that. Beyond the new chip, the Fossil Sport will come preloaded with the updated Wear OS, Google's smartwatch operating system. At an event held in Delhi today, <keyword id="94237" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Royal-Enfield">Royal Enfield</keyword> has finally unveiled the <keyword id="6426894" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Himalayan">Himalayan</keyword>. However, the launch has been reserved for an undisclosed date in the future. 
 
With more and more enthusiasts buying Royal Enfield motorcycles with each passing year, the need of the hour was an affordable 'off-road' adventure motorcycle, and Royal Enfield has given us just that. 
 
The bike has been developed from ground zero and doesn't share any similarity with the other Royal Enfield models. 
 
The engine of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is a 411cc unit, single-cylinder, air-cooled mill with overhead cams producing 24.5bhp at 6,500rpm and 32Nm at 4,000-4,500rpm. The bike has a kerb weight of 182kgs and ground clearance of 220mm. The fuel tank capacity is a not-so-much 15 litres though. 
 
Going the old school way, Royal Enfield has decided to use a carburettor in the Himalayan. There are two 41mm forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear with a travel of 180mm. To make the Himalayan more versatile, Royal Enfield has given a 21" front wheel and a 17" wheel at the rear. 
 
Even though there has been no confirmation from Royal Enfield about the price of the Himalayan, the bike is expected to be priced around 1.8 lakh.

The best watch for under $50 just got a huge upgrade

I like them because they're aren't fussy - good ones are well made, can be gotten plenty wet, can be worn with lots of different styles of clothes (everything but the most dressy ensembles), and yes, can be taken swimming without worry.The best dive watches cost lots, and the most famous, the Rolex Submariner, is an iconic timepiece that will set you back $8,000. It will probably always be worth at least $8,000, and likely more, but still - expensive.Pricey divers date can trace their legacies to the dive-watch boom of the middle-20th century, when scuba was popularized and practitioners needed a reliable timepiece to take underwater to keep track of their dive times so that they wouldn't use up their air and would have adequate time to ascend properly to the surface. This was when the Rolex Sub and other icons, such as the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, were born. But another equally tough but far less costly dive watch also dates to this period.It was made by Seiko.And it still is. And Seiko sells it for about $250.The model is the SKX007, in stainless steel case, with a stainless-steel bracelet and an automatic movement. It's has a Sub-like black face and bezel, but another version, the SKX175, is often described as having a "Pepsi" bezel - red and blue - and it <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolex_GMT_Master_II">resembles the Rolex GMT Master II</a> in this respect.This is one I have. It's a fantastic watch, substantial at 41 mm, and with a comfortable jubilee bracelet and a screw-down crown that sits at the 4 o'clock position. Or maybe 20.The point is that the more I wear the thing, the more I like it. I've never much cared for the Rolex Sub's aesthetics, although it's impossible to deny the Sub's influence (see above). This $250 Seiko proves that you don't need to spend a ton on a great dive watch

<keyword id="76575" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Foursquare">Foursquare</keyword> just <a href="http://t.co/gB1Q0MjlbC">raised $41 million in debt</a>. Most of it is a loan from Silver Lake, a private equity firm. But some of the money is something called "convertible debt," raised from existing Foursquare investors Andreessen Horowitz, Union Square Ventures, and Spark Capital.
In the following post, Union Square Ventures partner Fred Wilson explains the logic behind the deal.
Reading between the lines, it sounds like if Foursquare had had sold equity, its valuation would have been lousy – or at least down from a previous valuation of $600 million.
The debt deal increases risk/reward for common shareholders, including employees. It increases risk in that if Foursquare can't find a home run, they walk away with nothing. But since debt isn't dilutatitve, it also also increases reward if they can hit that home run.

I've written about convertible debt a few times on this blog, most notably <a href="http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2012/09/convertible-debt.html" target="_self">here</a> and <a href="http://www.avc.com/a_vc/2011/07/financing-options-convertible-debt.html" target="_self">here</a>. My general take on convertible debt is that its very good for the founders and not very good for the investors in seed and early stage investments and a much better solution in late stage financings, which I mention at the end of the second linked post.
We have a good case study on late stage convertible debt today and I thought we should not miss an opportunity to talk about it. My partner Albert <a href="http://www.usv.com/2013/04/foursquare-checks-in.php" target="_self">blogged about the $41mm Foursquare financing on the USV blog</a> today. You will note that the investors bought convertible debt. And this is a classic situation where convertible debt was the optimal solution for everyone.
In the Foursquare situation, the convertible debt was purchased by a group of insiders led by USV and Andreeesen Horowitz. Both of our firms have been investors in Foursquare for several rounds and both of us own a meaningful stake in the company. Valuation is somewhat immaterial to us as our stake in the company is not going to increase much in this round of financing. But valuation is very material to the Foursquare management team because $41mm of capital is going to be dilutive at any valuation that would make sense here.
So the optimal structure is convertible debt. That means this round is not dilutive to the Foursquare management at this time. But it will be dilutive when the debt converts into equity, most likely at the next equity issuance. For the investors, we get the comfort of knowing that eventually our investment will become equity and we will not have to price it. Someone else will.
In Foursquare's specific situation, it makes even more sense because the company has just released an entirely new iOS version which gets iOS to parity with Android and completes the transition toward social search and curation which we all believe better positions the company in the minds of consumers. Also, the revenue model is in its early stages and will be much more developed in the next year. In situations where a valuation inflection point is on the horizon, convertible debt can be an excellent structure for everyone involved. And that is very much the case here.

Matthew DeBord/BINice watch.A while back, a new surfing-oriented watch company, <a href="https://aultasurf.com/">Aulta</a>, asked me to sample one of its first timepieces, the Leeway chronograph. I <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/this-105-watch-knocked-everything-else-off-my-wrist-2015-7">absolutely loved wearing the watch</a> and didn't much take it off much for several months.Like many new arrivals to the horological marketplace, Aulta started with quartz movements.I have no issues with quartz, unlike some watch lovers. In fact, the watch I wear most is a Citizen Eco-Drive quartz chrono that I bought almost 15 years ago. It's been running strong for over a decade.That said, I own a few mechanical and automatic watches as well. This is where Aulta is going with its new Acuatico line - watches powered by workhorse Japanese Miyota 8215 movements (40-hour power reserve) and selling for $240.I tested a piece with a <a href="https://aultasurf.com/collections/the-acuatico-automatic/products/the-acuatico-automatic-s-steel-blue">blue face and a stainless-steel bracelet</a>, and I tested it for about three months solid, working it into my rotation of about a half-dozen watches. The Acuatico is unabashedly an automatic diver watch, which puts it in one of the most competitive segments of the business. The lord of this realm is of course the Rolex Submariner, which goes for about $8,000.But there are many, many other dive watches you can buy, and for far less than eight grand. So how does the Acuatico stack up?As it turns out, I have what is probably the best budget alternative to the Rolex Sub, the Seiko Diver's, a watch that's been around for decades and is revered by watch enthusiasts. To be honest, I prefer it to the Sub, aesthetically, although there's no question that the Sub is a better investment.Matthew DeBord/BIMy Seiko Diver.The Seiko is priced about the same as the Acuatico and also uses a Japanese movement, but one that Seiko produces in-house.For me, the watches were very different - and that, I think, is a big positive for Aulta. The company's whole concept is to make watches that can go from boardroom to surfboard in a single day. They are stylish tool watches. But the Acuatico is among the most toolish of their current lineup, largely because it's intended to be an attractive timepiece that can stand up to the rigors of the ocean (or at least the swimming pool).The first thing you notice about the watch is that it's heavy. It's not overly large, at 41mm, but it is substantial. The bracelet is superb, although it doesn't have a wetsuit-friendly diver extension. The wrist presence here is serious. A sapphire crystal means good scratch resistance, the unidirectional rotating bezel is solid, and the screwdown crown is located at the 4 o'clock position, a familiar location for any Seiko Diver owners (the date window is also there). The face is a cheerful French blue, the sword hour and minute hands are skeletons, and the second hand is orange, a nice contrast with the face. The indices are big dots and hashes, and the lume is fairly good. With a 200-meter depth rating and screwdown caseback, the Acuatico will be more than capable of standing up to surfing, if not any kind of serious scuba diving. Snorkeling should be fine.Matthew DeBord/BIThe stainless-steel bracelet in hefty and solid.I'm not really a fanatic when it comes to the timekeeping accuracy of sturdy Japanese automatic movements. They tend to be beaten - and beaten badly - by anything quartz. But that isn't the point. The movements in both my Seiko and the Aulta aren't meant to survive splashing and bashing, and they do a reasonable job of telling you how long you've been underwater. Neither Seiko nor Aulta uses a see-through caseback - first, because the movements aren't that much to look at, but also because good dive watches don't have them, the better to ensure water-tightness.As many commenters and enthusiasts have pointed out, you see this type of watch on dive boats more often than fancy Swiss pieces because it's no big deal to lose one to Davy Jones' locker. But as far as watches go, the Acuatico is less tool-looking than the Seiko. As a result, it's more adaptable. It fits perfectly with Aulta's game plan and give the company a good-quality watch to pitch at those folks who won't once consider a quartz movement.The heft of the watch was the only issue I had with it. This could be somewhat addressed by switching out the bracelet for something lighter, or by choosing a version with a polyurethane strap. Still the watch itself is weighty, something that will appeal to many buyers, but that for me made me appreciate the lighter weight of most of my other watches.But that's me. I don't generally like heavy watches, so I'm a poor guide on this front. The bulk of a proper automatic is a selling point for many watchmakers, especially in the tool-watch world.Matthew DeBord/BISome branding on the caseback, which isn't see-through - a critical feature for a good diver.On balance, the Acuatico is a dandy first foray into mechanical timepieces for Aulta and adds a new angle to the brand without introducing a bank-busting option. The watch feels like it should cost twice what it does, especially if you go for the bracelet. The aesthetics of the face and the quality of the stainless steel mean that the Acuatico will probably look fantastic on a variety of aftermarket straps, too.I actually think this might be an excellent gift package for the watch: $240 for the bracelet version, plus a nice leather strap (something like <a href="https://shop.wornandwound.com/collections/model-2-classic">this</a>, from Worn &amp; Wound). The watch lover in your life with probably appreciate the combination. Aulta might not yet have the credibility of a Seiko or Rolex, but the company has done a good job of building a brand around an aquatic lifestyle and hasn't let quality slide.
