The Education Department has started sending emails to some borrowers who missed payments during the on-ramp, saying that "we want to make sure you're aware that these protections will end on Sept. 30, 2024."Once the on-ramp ends, borrowers who miss payments will be considered delinquent and reported to credit agencies. Missed payments also would not count toward any loan forgiveness or repayment programs, like Public Service Loan Forgiveness and income-driven repayment plans.A recent report from the Government Accountability Office found that just 40% of borrowers with scheduled payments greater than $0 were current on their payments, and 29% of them were past due as of January 2024. Markets rally for 4th day running in early trade

Benchmark equity indices <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> and <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> declined nearly 1 per cent on Thursday, continuing their falling streak for the fifth day running due to <keyword id="19931546" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="profit-booking" source="keywords">profit booking</keyword> amid monthly expiry in the derivatives segment. The 30-share BSE Sensex plunged by 617.30 points or 0.83 per cent to settle at 73,885.60. The barometer hit the day's low of 73,668.73 due to selling in blue-chips. The NSE Nifty dropped by 216.05 points or 0.95 per cent to close at 22,488.65. Benchmark indices closed at lifetime high levels on May 23 which triggered profit-taking amid growing nervousness among investors ahead of the results of the Lok Sabha polls on June 4. Since then, Nifty and Sensex have declined around 2 per cent in the five straight sessions. "The benchmark index is taking cues from the US market as treasury yields continue to climb following the stickiness of global inflation, delaying the central bank's interest rates cut policy," Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services, said. From the Sensex pack, Tata Steel, Titan, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India, Tata Motors and JSW Steel were the biggest laggards. ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India and Kotak Mahindra Bank were the gainers. "Meanwhile, the broader market continued the weak trend, led by profit booking, due to feeble closing of monthly expiry owing to lack of interest to hold short-term positions, as exit poll is slated in the weekend," Nair said. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Shanghai settled lower. European markets were trading with gains, while US markets ended in the negative territory on Wednesday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 5,841.84 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data. The last phase of polling is scheduled for June 1. The results of the ongoing general elections will be declared on June 4. Global oil benchmark Brent Crude fell 0.41 per cent to USD 83.19 a barrel. On Wednesday, the 30-share BSE Sensex declined 667.55 points or 0.89 per cent to settle at 74,502.90. The NSE Nifty dropped 183.45 points or 0.80 per cent to close at 22,704.70.

IT, pharma, and healthcare indices were trading in red during early trade, while realty inched by over 1% as well. <h2>Earnings in Focus</h2>Baja Auto and Crisil are set to declare their Q1FY25 results later in the day. Stockbroking firm <keyword id="20109427" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Angel-One" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Angel One" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Angel One">Angel One</keyword> also declared its quarterly results, seeing a 3.8% QoQ rise in its income to touch Rs 14,101 million. The firm's client base saw a 64.2% YoY jump to reach 24.7 million. The company's gross client acquisition saw a staggering 94.8% YoY jump, standing at 2.6 million. Its average daily turnover on a notional basis also inched up to 92.7% YoY to reach Rs 43.8 trillion. HDFC Life also released its quarterly results yesterday. The company's profit after tax jumped by 15% to touch Rs 478 crore, while its assets under management crossed Rs 3 lakh crore. The company also declared a bonus of Rs 3,722 crore to its 22 lakh+ shareholders. Says Aditya Gaggar, director of Progressive Shares, "A sudden spike was seen in the tire stocks, some of which have given a firm breakout with considerable volume (JK Tyre and Pix Transmission). For the past couple of weeks, we have been recommending <keyword id="19923397" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ONGC" source="keywords">ONGC</keyword> from the energy sector, and it is performing as per our expectations as well, which boosted our confidence to remain bullish on the same. One can adopt a buy-on-dips strategy as well. Gas stocks are gaining buying traction.". "The general tendency after a vertical rally is profit booking, and this is what we are witnessing in the IT segment, but the undertone will remain bullish only. At the lower end of the consolidation, the metal segment is suggesting a trend reversal. A much-awaited breakout was observed in the PSU Banking segment, but for confirmation, we will wait for a follow-up buy," he continued.

"Interest in the FMCG sector has risen due to the potential for an early onset of monsoon. Nevertheless, markets may underperform in the short term as they wait for the election outcome, with FIIs staying on the sidelines," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said. In the broader market, the BSE smallcap gauge climbed 0.18 per cent while midcap index dipped 0.05 per cent. Among the indices, realty jumped 1.41 per cent, FMCG by 1.26 per cent, IT by 0.63 per cent, utilities by 0.59 per cent, energy by 0.58 per cent and healthcare by 0.35 per cent. Commodities, financial services, bankex and metal were the laggards. In Asian markets, Shanghai settled in the positive territory while Seoul, Tokyo and Hong Kong ended lower. European markets were trading lower. Wall Street ended in the green on Tuesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude declined 0.84 per cent to USD 82.18 a barrel. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 1,874.54 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. The BSE benchmark declined 52.63 points or 0.07 per cent to settle at 73,953.31 on Tuesday. The Nifty, however, ended higher by 27.05 points or 0.12 per cent to 22,529.05.

The issue, which opened on October 15th, 2024, was subscribed to a total of 2.12 times, with <keyword id="21713453" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="QIBs" source="keywords">QIBs</keyword> making a mad, last-minute dash for the IPO, subscribing to it by over 6 times. <keyword id="20031464" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-participation" source="keywords">Retail participation</keyword> in Hyundai Motors India's IPO remained largely subdued, with investors only subscribing to 45% of the shares earmarked for them. As against 4.94 crore shares which were allocated for them, investors only bid for 2.23 crore shares. QIBs (<keyword id="20240741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Qualified-Institutional-Buyers" source="keywords">Qualified Institutional Buyers</keyword>), who had been offered about 19.89% of the total issue pie, ended up with oversubscribing to the issue by a massive 6.32x. QIBs bid for 17,86,65,739 shares, as against 2,82,83,260 shares allocated for them. QIBs are generally large financial institutions such as mutual funds, AIFs (alternative investment funds), venture capital funds, commercial banks, insurance companies and pension funds. Note that a provisional fund, or a pension fund would need a minimum of Rs 25 crore as its corpus, in order to identify as a QIB. What sets anchor investors, who generally bid for an IPO a day before the subscription is set to start, from QIBs is their bid amount. Anchor investors are also QIBs, who are mandated to bid for a minimum of Rs 1o crore worth of shares in an IPO. Hyundai Motor India's employees, who were offered the share at a discount of Rs 186, and also 0.55% of the total stake, were another segment that received the IPO positively. The IPO was subscribed 1.65x in this category, with employees bidding for 12,81,343 shares as against 7,78,400 shares reserved for them. <keyword id="19901201" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEBI" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SEBI" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SEBI">SEBI</keyword> regulations mandate that except for retail investors, no other category of IPO bidders cannot cancel or modify the bids they've once placed. QIBs and NIIs can only increase their bid quantity or price, and have no way of downsizing or cancelling the bids once placed. Unlike anchor investors, who have a 30-day lock-in period before selling off 50% of their allotted shares and another 90-day lock-in period before selling the rest, QIBs can begin selling their shares as soon the stock is listed on the exchanges, and begins trading. The share allotment for this IPO is expected to be done by October 18th, with the listing on BSE and NSE tentatively set for October 22. According to recent trends, the company's GMP (grey market premium) was trading at Rs 15, bringing its potential listing price to Rs 1,975, and the expected listing gains to a mere 0.77%.
