The official handle of ICC took to Instagram on Saturday morning to post a video of Virat being given his trophy and cap, in acknowledgement of an incredible 2023 he had with the bat. The 35-year-old witnessed another massive peak of his illustrious career in 2023, after some years of inconsistent form and struggle for massive scores. In 27 ODIs, he scored 1,377 runs at an average of 72.47 and a strike rate of 99.13, with six centuries and eight fifties in 24 innings. His best score was 166*. He played a big role in India's Asia Cup 2023 triumph, scoring an unbeaten 122* in 94 balls against arch-rivals Pakistan in a crucial Super Four stage game. Later on in the ODI World Cup held last year at home, Virat delivered an all-timer campaign, scoring 765 runs in 11 matches at an average of 95.62, with three centuries, six half-centuries and the best score of 117. He ended the tournament as a top-scorer, scoring the most runs in a single World Cup edition, breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record of 673 runs back in the 2003 WC. He also outdid Sachin's record of 49 ODI tons, scoring his 50th ODI ton against New Zealand in the semifinals. Now, Virat will take to the field in Indian colours for the ICC T20 World Cup to be held in West Indies and USA. He comes into this tournament after winning the Orange Cap for most runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 741 runs in 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of over 154, with a century and five fifties. His best score of 113*.

In an acceptance speech, he quipped, "Shukriya sari jury member ka jinhone mujhko best actor ke liye layak samjha aur bhaut saal ho gaye mujhe best actor ka award nahin mila toh aisa lagne laga tha ki ab milega hi nahin. Mujhe bhaut khushi hai. Mujhe awards bhaut ache lagte hai ...main thoda laalchi hu, greedy hu. (I thank jury who considered me worthy of the Best Actor award. I have not received the Best Actor Award in a long time. It seemed as if I would not get it again...So I am extremely happy. I like awards. The <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>’s Governor <keyword id="6359111" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="shaktikanta-das" source="Orion">Shaktikanta Das</keyword> on Friday announced that the central bank would enable the Bharat Bill Payment System (<keyword id="6443838" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bbps" source="Orion">BBPS</keyword>) to process inbound cross-border payments. Governor Das said that the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) was an interoperable platform for standardized bill payments. He said, “It is now proposed to enable BBPS to accept cross-border inward bill payments. This will enable Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to undertake bill payments for utility, education and other such payments on behalf of their families in India. This will greatly benefit the senior citizens in particular.” The bill payment system has made bill payments relatively easy for users in India. Currently, 20,000 billers are part of the system, and more than 80 million transactions are processed on a monthly basis. This will help senior citizens in India with children working abroad. The scope of offering has now been expanded to non-resident Indians too, who can now pay for children’s school fees and utility bills using this platform. The BBPS offers a reliable payment mechanism with predictable and uniform convenience fees across billers. Explains <keyword id="14143061" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="muralidharan-srinivasan" source="Orion">Muralidharan Srinivasan</keyword>, head of payments, APMEA Region, FIS, “NRIs will now be able to enjoy various offerings of BBPS such as a reliable bill payment experience, centralized customer grievances redress mechanism, and uniform customer convenience fee, while paying utility bills, education-related payments and other cross-border transactions.” The RBI has taken several measures to improve cross-border transactions, especially inbound. The central bank has been testing different models of cross-border payments through the regulatory sandbox route. In September 2021, the RBI received 27 applications from 26 entities, of which eight entities have been selected for the ‘test phase’. The entities began testing their products from the third week of September 2021 to offer a variety of cross-border payment solutions for Indians and NRIs. <ul><li>For the last few years, <keyword id="193300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cartoon-Network">Cartoon Network</keyword> and <keyword id="10822" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pogo">POGO</keyword> have focused on coming up with local animation shows that have steadily been witnessing an increase in viewership.</li><li>As the channel gets ready to launch another made-in-India show called‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’, we catch up with <keyword id="108258" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Abhishek-Dutta">Abhishek Dutta</keyword>, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show.</li></ul>Ever since the government announced the lockdown in March last year, people have been stuck at home. It has changed the way we live, work, study, consume content and shop. The lockdown has also meant people are now spending more time at home, consuming content on different platforms. Television viewership has gained massively. Viewership in the kids’ genre too has seen an obvious uptick, with children being stuck at home. Data from Broadcast Audience Research Council (<keyword id="65298" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BARC">BARC</keyword>) India earlier this year had revealed that the viewership of kids’ genre had increased by 20% during the pandemic. Non primetime kids viewing grew by 31% during the peak lockdown in 2020 compared to 2019. This spike in viewership has also led to channels in the genre to up their content game. We recently caught up with Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show. The pandemic effect While a lot of other traditional medium struggled, people being stuck at home worked in favor of TV, and the kids’ genre gained from this too. While advertising spends did suffer in the initial months, things started turning in the later half of the year, specially during the festive season. On how it has been for Cartoon Network and POGO, Dutta said, “Both 2020 and 2021 have been favorable for us. We have launched two local IPs for the kids this summer. Now we are going to launch ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’ which is India’s newest, homegrown tech-savvy superhero. Cartoon Network and Pogo are the only network channels in the kids category that have executed six new local shows during the pandemic in India. Covid has had an obvious impact on our business. The second wave has also come with its own challenges but we are seeing growth coming back and hopefully we'll have a better second half. In 2021, the kids genre has registered growth and the months of January to April also witnessed an upside in ad spends, when compared to 2020. The importance of local IPs <keyword id="1617156" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Localization">Localization</keyword> has been a critical part of both the channel’s growth in India. The new show, ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’, created in-house and produced by Kolkata-based studio Hi-Tech Animation, joins the existing portfolio of popular homegrown IPs by WarnerMedia India including ‘Dabangg - The Animated Series’ on Cartoon Network; ‘Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu’ and ‘Smashing Simmba’ on the companion channel POGO. Meanwhile, the effort has also been to create content that is relevant globally too. “Today, kids demand content that is fresh, unique, local and something that resonates with them. They don’t just seek entertaining and engaging content, relatability is one of the most important factors in kids viewership today. Which is why we are confident about our new show which has all the elements that kids today are looking for, its about a superhero and the show combines mystical elements and India's heritage while adding elements of science fiction. All these aspects make it an interesting storyline. We believe the underlying impact of the show will also be to let kids know that it is acceptable to have fears and conquer them as well. Our message through the show is, every child is a superhero in their own way.” Dutta also shared that there has been a steady increase in the viewership of made-in-India content because there is a lot of choice today. “Out of the top 10 shows in the category today, seven are locally produced shows. When you see the top 20 shows in the category, 15 are locally-produced. So there is a visible appetite for local content amongst kids today.” On the growth path Throwing light on a few things that he believes will help the channels grow further, Dutta added, “Cartoon Network has a historic, rich legacy in the kids and family space owing to vibrant shows that are loved across the globe. With the launch of a Ekans, Cartoon Network will further consolidate its leadership position as the country's pioneer and most-loved animation channel. While viewership has grown, increasingly we are witnessing demand for content that can be enjoyed as family, but that is also fresh, relevant, localized and compelling. We have already taken the lead in delivering homegrown content that resonates with this trend and we’ll continue to both acquire and create our own unique and relatable homegrown content that offers a local flavor through authentic voices, India-centric characters, and regional language features. Here’s why Cartoon Network continues to focus on localization

San Francisco, Oct 10 (IANS) A group of hackers has received 32 payments from Apple totaling $2,88,500 for discovering 55 vulnerabilities (11 critical) in the core systems as they hacked the tech giant for three months. The critical bugs allowed the group to take control of core Apple infrastructure and "from there steal private emails, iCloud data, and other private information". Apple promptly fixed the vulnerabilities. There were a total of 55 vulnerabilities discovered with 11 critical severity, 29 high severity, 13 medium severity and 2 low severity reports. According to the web application security researcher Sam Curry who was part of the group, once Apple processes the remainder, the total payout might surpass $500,000. As of October 6, the vast majority of these findings have been fixed and credited. They were typically remediated within 1-2 business days (with some being fixed in as little as four-six hours). The hackers targeted Apple's web assets after reading about 27-year-old Indian security researcher Bhavuk Jain who recently won $100,000 (over Rs 75.5 lakh) from Apple for discovering a now-patched Zero Day vulnerability in the Sign in with Apple account authentication. "This was surprising to me as I previously understood that Apple's bug bounty programme only awarded security vulnerabilities affecting their physical products and did not payout for issues affecting their web assets," Curry said. Between July 6-October 6, Curry, Brett Buerhaus, Ben Sadeghipour, Samuel Erb and Tanner Barnes worked together and hacked the company. "If the issues were used by an attacker, Apple would've faced massive information disclosure and integrity loss," Curry said. "For instance, attackers would have access to the internal tools used for managing user information and additionally be able to change the systems around to work as the hackers intend". Apple has been actively investing in its bug bounty programme and security researchers can receive up to one million dollars per vulnerability depending on the nature and severity of the security flaw. "As of now, October 8th, we have received 32 payments totaling $288,500 for various vulnerabilities," Curry said. "However, it appears that Apple does payments in batches and will likely pay for more of the issues in the following months". Curry said that Apple has had an interesting history working with security researchers, but it appears that their vulnerability disclosure programme is "a massive step in the right direction to working with hackers in securing assets and allowing those interested to find and report vulnerabilities". --IANS wh/na

Germanys willingness to go ahead with Russias <keyword id="9739267" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sputnik-V">Sputnik V</keyword> vaccine comes as a major step forward in the worlds war against the deadly coronavirus that jumped species to inflict death and suffering on humankind. At a time when there is an acute shortage of <keyword id="79555" type="TECHNOLOGY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vaccines">vaccines</keyword>, geopolitics cannot be used to deny vast populations a proven vaccine needed to save lives and livelihoods. As many as five Indian pharmaceutical firms including Dr Reddy's Labs have also signed agreements with Russia to roll out Sputnik V, which will go a long way in bridging the current deficit in vaccines worldwide and speeding up the inoculation drive against the relentless surge in <keyword id="8785701" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="COVID-19-cases">Covid-19 cases</keyword>. India as the largest vaccine maker in the world has already supplied 76 countries with shots of the two vaccines that it is currently producing-- AstraZeneca-Oxford and Bharat Bitoech's homegrown <keyword id="9485939" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="covaxin">Covaxin</keyword>. The tie-up with Russia will help to step up this effort and meet the huge demand. The German government said on Friday that it would be open to using the Russian-made Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine once it had been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel herself directly referred to Sputnik jabs and said <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword> "should use any vaccine that has been approved" by the EMA. A spokesman for Germany's health ministry echoed the same sentiment on Friday, saying that "all vaccines are welcome if they have been approved by the EMA". The EMA this month launched a rolling review of Sputnik V, in a key step required for its approval as the first non-Western coronavirus vaccine to be used across the 27-nation bloc. "This is a good vaccine that will probably also be approved in the EU at some point. The Russian researchers are very experienced with vaccines. Sputnik V is cleverly built," Thomas Mertens, head of Germany's vaccine commission Stiko, told the Rheinische Post on Tuesday. However, Sputnik has faced criticism in Western countries, and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Drian has accused both Russia and China on Friday of using their vaccines to gain influence abroad. "In terms of how it is managed, it (the Sputnik V vaccine) is more a means of propaganda and aggressive diplomacy than a means of solidarity and health aid," Le Drian told France Info radio. Moscow hit back with Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying : "We absolutely disagree with the fact that Russia and China are using the coronavirus pandemic and vaccines as tools of influence." Russia registered Sputnik V in August, ahead of large-scale clinical trials, which had raised concerns among many experts over the fast-track process. However, later reviews have shown the vaccine to be both safe and effective in preventing Covid-19. Over 3.5 million people in Russia have already received both doses of the Sputnik V vaccine. Leading British medical journal The Lancet announced on Tuesday that the Sputnik jab was 91.6 per cent effective against symptomatic Covid-19 cases, which laid to rest much of the international scepticism. The green signal from Germany also comes at a time when Europe has fallen behind in its inoculation drive and there is a major controversy raging on the issue with EU blaming Britain for the shortfall in supplies of the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine. The 27-nation bloc has accused Britain of cornering most of the shots in what is being termed as "vaccine nationalism." The EU has also recently temporarily suspended the use of the vaccine saying that it was not safe and resumed only after the EMA gave the go-ahead for the shots. The move was also attributed to political reasons in the wake of the strained ties between the EU and Britain. Germany approves Russia's Sputnik V vaccine - Indian pharma companies, including Dr. Reddy's Labs to gain

Dubai, May 7 () A total of 354 Indian nationals, including 11 pregnant women and a pair of twins, will return home on Thursday in the first two flights from the UAE to Kerala as India begins its biggest ever repatriation exercise to bring back its citizens stranded abroad amidst the international travel lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic.On Monday, the Indian government announced plans to begin a phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad from May 7. The government also said that Air India will operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown.Short-listing the first passengers from among a database of more than 200,000 applicants, who include around 6,500 pregnant women, has been a mammoth task which posed several challenges for the missions, Neeraj Agrawal, Consul, Press, Information and Culture at the Indian Consulate in Dubai told the Gulf News.As many as 354 of them from the UAE will fly back to India in the first two flights to Kerala on Thursday, the report said.An Air India Express flight, which is scheduled to take off from Abu Dhabi to Kochi at 4.15 pm is the first flight, which will be followed by a Dubai-Kozhikode flight of the same airline at 5.10pm, it said. India is conducting its biggest ever repatriation exercise named Vande Bharat Mission-sans social distancing and COVID-19 tests to bring back stranded Indians from abroad.The Indian missions in the UAE finalised the list of passengers, who were chosen based on the compelling reasons they submitted while registering their names."Only passengers with confirmed tickets must proceed to the airport. They are required to reach the airport five hours prior to departure," Agrawal said.The Indian Consulate has appealed to passengers not to overcrowd the airport, maintain social distancing and follow all necessary precautions stipulated by the authorities, he was quoted as saying by the report."We are trying to accommodate as many deserving people as possible. We expect the understanding of the people. It has been very difficult to sort out everyone's urgency," he said."Though we want to give priority to pregnant women, it is practically not possible and not good for the health and safety of the applicants to allot a lot of them on the same flight."He said 11 pregnant women have been issued tickets on the Dubai-Kozhikode flight, the report added.He said the government is trying to add more flights to un-chartered destinations and a new flight from Dubai to Kannur has been added on May 12.An elderly couple is on the list who was in Dubai to visit their son when the lockdown in India led to cancellation of flights and they could not leave from the UAE."We are really lucky to have made it to the list. <ul><li>India will now have three <keyword id="8411238" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-sanskrit-universities">central Sanskrit universities</keyword> — <keyword id="2802845" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Sanskrit-Sansthan">Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan</keyword>, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya <keyword id="6390141" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanskrit">Sanskrit</keyword> Vidyapeeth, Delhi, and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati. </li><li>This is after the Parliament gave a nod to the Central <keyword id="7792758" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanskrit-universities">Sanskrit Universities</keyword> Bill, 2020, which sought to convert the three deemed-to-be universities into central universities. </li><li>The move will promote Sanskrit at a global level and offer integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, and science, thereby preserving Sanskrit and other allied subjects. </li></ul>The Indian government has given central university status to three Sanskrit universities, allowing them to gain international recognition.. Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Delhi, and Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth in Tirupati received recognition from the government. “Sanskrit language is not only a language but an identity of the great cultural diversity of this country and hence it is known as an unique language. Due to these factors, it has become imperative to promote the study and research in Sanskrit language. Hence, the government proposed to convert these three deemed-to-be universities into Central Sanskrit Universities,” <a href="https://pib.gov.in/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1606638">said</a> the Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank.’ Nishank elaborated that Sanskrit is a unique language in terms of grammar, meaning, pronunciation and accuracy, adding that Devanagari script is also derived from Sanskrit. The Parliament gave a nod to the Central Sanskrit Universities Bill, 2020. The bill had sought the conversion of the three deemed-to-be universities into central universities. The aim is to promote Sanskrit at a global level and offer integrated courses in humanities, social sciences, and science along with it. “These three universities will have more opportunities to spread the knowledge of Sanskrit language not only in India but also across the world in a better way. The world is looking towards Sanskrit language therefore it is being taught not only in Indian colleges and universities but also in top universities across the globe,” he added. As of now, India nearly has <a href="https://theprint.in/india/education/how-modi-govt-plans-to-get-international-recognition-for-indias-sanskrit-universities/379101/">18 Sanskrit universities</a> with over 100 colleges teaching the language. However, none of them had National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.  After becoming central universities, they will be able to participate in university rankings — both national and international — such as the <keyword id="3171143" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-Institutional-Ranking-Framework">National Institutional Ranking Framework</keyword> (NIRF) and the QS Rankings. The development will<a href="https://prsindia.org/billtrack/central-sanskrit-universities-bill-2019"> allow the universities to create their own courses of study</a> and training programmes, grant degree certificates, distance education and an autonomous status. “The Central University status awarded to these three universities will enhance the status of these universities and will give a boost to postgraduate, doctoral, post-doctoral education and research practices in the field of Sanskrit and Shastraic education. This will pave the way for many people from abroad to learn Sanskrit and Shastraic lore from these prestigious central Sanskrit universities in our country,” the ministry said.  The controversial Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb has now been crowned as the king of gaffes in India. He seems to have been a serial offender and was even reprimanded by his party’s senior leadership for a series of brazen statements.  The president of Indian National Congress Rahul Gandhi was in an embarrassing situation while addressing lawmakers in the Parliament. What he aimed was for a snarky remark against his arch-political rival Prime Minister Modi. However, ended up being the butt of several jokes.  Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb— who we earlier dubbed as the ‘king of bloopers’ once said that nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore rejected the Nobel Prize as a mark of protest against the British Empire. In fact, Tagore never declined the award that he received in 1913 for his work ‘Gitanjali.’ He further added, Tagore was awarded with “Biswosrestho” (world’s best) award for Gitanjali. ‘Ducks raise oxygen level in water bodies’ - No prizes for guessing who said that!

 In another major gaffe, the Tripura chief minister claimed that ducks can raise oxygen levels when they swim in water bodies. Yes, yes this is a scientific fact, but it still became news because of the bizarre comment. He said, “When ducks swim in water, oxygen level automatically increases in the waterbody. It (oxygen) gets recycled. Fish in the water will get more oxygen. They also benefit from bird droppings. Thus, pisciculture will benefit and fishes will grow faster, that too in a completely organic way,” reported NDTV.
