WATCH: What 26 January means to the world

That a high profile guest will arrive to taste the hospitality and understand the heritage of India is indeed a matter of pride. When an international guest, especially that of high ranking official and above, arrives in another country; the visit will usually be more than a courtesy call. 
 
Now, one can imagine what goes into a high profile visit when India hosts someone of the rank of a respective country’s President, Prime Minister, Premier or Army General etc. Rounds of security checks being done, menu being decided and meetings are being set up apart from a highly-packed itinerary drawn up in consultation with the officials of the guest of visiting country make for the regular must-dos. The more powerful the guest is, the higher detailing of the security arrangements take place on the land that's hosting him/her. 
 India is already on a high with the impending visit of American President <keyword id="15962" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Barack-Obama">Barack Obama</keyword>, who would be state guest on the occasion of Indian <keyword id="6416557" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Republic-day">Republic Day</keyword> parade. The event is mainly an occasion to commemorate the day when India turned into a republic, but India uses the day to show the prowess of military forces and technological advancements happening across the country—this apart from showing a slice of heritage from each state that is being administered by the Indian republic since 1950. 
 
While Obama was invited to attend this special event by Prime Minister Modi when he went USA as a state guest, there have been times when high-profile visitors have donned this event earlier on a grand scale. 
 
India has been the favourite destination of many dignitaries owing to the multi-cultural and multi-dimensional nature of its population. Last year’s Republic Day guest was the Japanese Prime Minister <keyword id="590894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shinzo-Abe">Shinzo Abe</keyword>. India has generally concentrated on its immediate neighbours to be invited as Guests of Republic Day Parade. 
 The first ever guest of Indian republic was President of Indonesia, Sukarno who came as the state guest in 1950. This was followed by <keyword id="28161" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="king">King</keyword> of Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuk who came to view the Republic Day events. Then in 1955, India perhaps felt the need to have a big name from the immediate neighbourhood. The Governor General of Pakistan, Malik Ghulam Mohammad came visiting India in 1955. In 1961, India had a very special guest – Queen <keyword id="6381870" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Elizabeth-II">Elizabeth II</keyword> of United Kingdom who was the guest on India’s very special day. 
 High ranking politicians have come from various countries (mostly third world) from around India such as Yugoslavia, Cambodia, Srilanka, Zambia, Tanzania, Mauritius, Soviet Union (then) Singapore, Maldives, Zaire, Ireland, France and Iran. During the UPA regime, the state guests came from countries such as Bhutan (twice over), Saudi Arabia, Kazakstan, Republic of Korea, Indonesia, Thailand and Japan. Two of the most talked about visits included the President of France <keyword id="6356025" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nicolas-sarkozy">Nicolas Sarkozy</keyword>, and President of Russia Vladimir Putin. 
 Among some of the most discussed visits, not necessarily linked to the Republic Day parade, have been that of <keyword id="237521" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ariel-Sharon">Ariel Sharon</keyword>, the then Prime Minister of Israel who was the first one to visit India. He shared great bonhomie with India and his visit helped India and Israel reach many agreements on defence, information technology, and agriculture. The President of France, Jaques Chirac’s visit in 2006 helped India and France ink nuclear cooperation and defence cooperation agreements which went a long way in holding the relationship between these countries steadfast. The bond still continues to be cherished. 
 Despite being a guest several times over, officials and dignitaries from Pakistan have somewhat remained a tough challenges for India to connect with its neighbour on the initiatives of peace, trade and cooperation. One of the most embarrassing moments India faced after the departure of a state guest was in 1958 when the Chinese Marshal <keyword id="2698120" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ye-Jianying">Ye Jianying</keyword> visited India on the invitation of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Soon after, both countries entered into a war that continued to haunt both countries for years to come. 
 India has been on the forefront of economies today having won over some of the most complicated challenges. Hence, the Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard spoke of solidarity with India just about three years ago, followed by Canadian PM <keyword id="73157" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stephen-Harper">Stephen Harper</keyword> visiting the country, and German Chancellor <keyword id="76" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Angela-Merkel">Angela Merkel</keyword>, and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev setting foot on Indian soil. French President Sarkozy, Chinese Premier Wen Ziabo, and now, American President Barack Obama seem to have truly made this a star-studded event.

High-Profile Visits: The Nation Prepares, And How!

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 12 (ANI): The World Health Organisation has confirmed the human case of <keyword id="3653784" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bird-flu-in-india" source="Orion">bird flu in India</keyword>, after the <keyword id="15897682" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="H9N2-virus" source="Orion">H9N2 virus</keyword> was detected in a four-year child in West Bengal. Overall, this is the second <keyword id="21166335" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="human-infection" source="keywords">human infection</keyword> of <keyword id="2663051" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Avian-Influenza-A" source="Orion">avian influenza A</keyword> (H9N2) notified to WHO from India, with the first being done in 2019. The child has recovered and was discharged from the hospital. WHO received a notification from the International Health Regulations (IHR) National Focal Point (NFP) for India, regarding a human case of avian influenza A(H9N2) virus infection in West Bengal, the health body said in a press release. "The patient is a 4-year-old child residing in West Bengal state. The case, previously diagnosed with hyperreactive airway disease, initially presented to the paediatrician with fever and abdominal pain on 26 January 2024. He developed seizures on January 29 after which he was brought to the same paediatrician. The patient was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU) of a local hospital due to the persistence of severe respiratory distress, recurrent high-grade fever and abdominal cramps. The patient tested positive for influenza B and adenovirus. He was discharged from the hospital on February 28 but with a recurrence of severe respiratory distress, he was referred to another government hospital and was admitted to the pediatric ICU and intubated on March 3. His nasopharyngeal swab was sent to the Kolkata Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory and tested positive for influenza A (not sub-typed) and rhinovirus. On April 26, the sample was sub-typed as influenza A(H9N2) through a real-time polymerase chain reaction. The patient was discharged from the hospital with oxygen support on May 1. WHO said that the infected patient had exposure to poultry at home and in the surroundings. It, however, also affirmed there were no known persons reporting symptoms of respiratory illness in the family, the neighbourhood, or among healthcare workers at health facilities attended by the case at the time of reporting. The health body further warned that sporadic human cases could occur in the future as this virus is "one of the most prevalent avian influenza viruses circulating in poultry in different regions." Animal influenza viruses normally circulate in animals but can also infect humans. Infections in humans have primarily been acquired through direct contact with infected animals or through indirect contact with contaminated environments. Depending on the original host, influenza A viruses can be classified as avian influenza, swine influenza, or other types of animal influenza viruses, the WHO stated in the release. The health body further said that it is providing continued support to the government of India through technical advice, updates on risk assessment and updating contingency plans- both in the human and animal sectors in line with the global guidance.

 A <keyword id="92714" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="draft-constitution">draft Constitution</keyword> was initially prepared by the <keyword id="2027910" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Constitution-Drafting-Committee">Constitution Drafting Committee</keyword>, led by Dr <keyword id="116616" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="BR-Ambedkar">BR Ambedkar</keyword>. Other key members of that panel included <keyword id="869379" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Acharya-Kriplani">Acharya Kriplani</keyword>, Pandit <keyword id="6360386" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jawaharlal-Nehru">Jawaharlal Nehru</keyword>, Pandit <keyword id="249180" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Govind-Ballabh-Pant">Govind Ballabh Pant</keyword>, <keyword id="5780" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Maulana-Azad">Maulana Azad</keyword>, <keyword id="24098" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="sardar-patel">Sardar Patel</keyword> and Dr <keyword id="6354764" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rajendra-Prasad">Rajendra Prasad</keyword>. But it took nearly three years of extensive debate, deliberations and moderations before the final document could be freezed. The Constitution was passed in the Constituent Assembly on 26 November, 1949, and was adopted on 26 January, 1950, commemorating the day in 1930 when the Declaration of Indian Independence (Purna Swaraj) was made by the <keyword id="190679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-National-Congress">Indian National Congress</keyword>.

Fast forward to 2014 and take a look at the key <keyword id="6421547" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="amendments">amendments</keyword> made to the <keyword id="99432" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-constitution">Indian Constitution</keyword> and how it impacted the country. Till date, a total of 120 amendment proposals came up although quite a few were abandoned due to various reasons. The Steelers used their franchise tag on Bell this year, leading him to sit out for the entire 2017 preseason.If tagged for a second consecutive year, Bell might decline to play - he knows what he's worth, and sounds unwilling to settle for less."Just get the numbers straight, exactly where we want them. I'm not going to settle for anything," Bell said. "I know what I do and what I bring to the table. I'm not going out here getting the ball 400 times if I'm not getting what I feel I'm valued at."The franchise tag puts Bell in a poor position because it prevents him from cashing in on the most valuable seasons of his career. As one of the best running backs in the league, Bell could secure a lucrative long-term contract that was front-loaded with cash that would allow him to make his worth while he's still a dominant force in the NFL. "It will eventually come down to me playing on the tag or not," Bell said. "They tag me again, it will be me [saying], 'OK, do I want to play on the tag or do I not want to play on the tag?' That's what it comes down to. If I was a free agent and they let me go, be a free agent, then yeah, I'm going to go explore free agency, test the market."While it's no surprise that Bell is looking to maximize his earning potential, the timing of the news is quite odd. The Pittsburgh Steelers are in the middle of a playoff race, with their first postseason game set for this Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.From Bell's position, it's something of a power move, especially if he plays well through the postseason.
