<keyword id="19906087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hyundai" source="keywords">Hyundai</keyword>'s mammoth Rs 27,870 crore <keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipo" source="keywords">IPO</keyword>, which will open for subscription between October 15-17, is set to be India's <keyword id="20459351" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="largest-IPO" source="keywords">largest IPO</keyword> ever, surpassing LIC's Rs 21,000 crore public offer, which came out in May 2022. This is also the first instance where an international giant (Hyundai Motor Group is based out of South Korea) will be listing its subsidiary (<keyword id="19908548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hyundai-Motor-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Hyundai Motor India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Hyundai Motor India">Hyundai Motor India</keyword>) in an overseas market. <br /><br />Additionally, the company is also looking to raise Rs 8,315.28 crore from <keyword id="21330641" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anchor-investors" source="keywords">anchor investors</keyword>, who will begin bidding on October 14th, 2024. Hyundai is the third largest auto original equipment manufacturer (OEM) globally, based on passenger vehicle sales.<br /><br /> "We have been in India now for more than 26 years. We have a very high market share. We are at number two position in India in the passenger vehicle space. We have got so much love and affection from the people of India. So we believe this is the right time to take one step forward and even further Indianize our operations," Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) COO Tarun Garg told PTI in an interaction. <br /><br />Garg further added that the whole aim is to really become the most trusted brand of India. On being asked why they choose India for launching their IPO, he noted that the brand Hyundai has really been accepted very well in India, which is why it is probably the right country to really go for the IPO. <br /><br />Hyundai has set a price band of Rs 1,865-1,960 per share for the IPO, taking the company's valuation to Rs 1.6 lakh crore, or $19 billion. For <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>, the minimum lot size is 7 shares, while the minimum investment amount is Rs 13,720. Out of the total issue, 35% has been reserved for retail investors, which will give them a fair shot at owning HMIL shares. Also, 7,78,400 shares have been allocated for employees, which will be offered at a discount of Rs 186 to the issue price.<br /><br />Most experts are suggesting subscribing to the IPO from a medium to long-term perspective. According to Bajaj Broking's IPO note, "The issue relatively appears fully priced, but the company is poised for bright prospects post completion of its ongoing expansions. The company reported PAT margins of 6.05% (FY22), 7.67% (FY23), 8.50% (FY24), 8.48% (Q1-FY25), and RoCE (return on capital employed)margins of 20.37%, 28.75%, 62.90%, 13.69% for the referred periods, respectively. We recommend to subscribe the IPO with a long-term perspective". <br /><br />Notably, the entire IPO is an <keyword id="19951016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OFS" source="keywords">OFS</keyword> (offer for sale) meaning that the company will not receive anything from this. We believe that the issue is fully priced and recommend “Subscribe –Long Term” rating to the IPO". <br /><br /><h2>History of large IPOs in India<br /></h2>Back in 2007, DLF came out with the then-largest IPO, which was worth Rs 9,187.50 crores and saw 3.5x overall subscription. This was soon eclipsed by Reliance Power's IPO worth Rs 11,563.20 crore in January 2008.  At 70X+subscription, it was massively oversubscribed in retail, QIB and HNI segments. The company managed to garner  Rs 7.5 lakh crore as against its issue size of Rs 11,000 crore. <br /><br />Then came government's (GOI) disinvestment in Coal India in 2010, which had a book size of 15,199.44 crores. After a 10-year lull, Paytm's Rs 18,300 crore IPO broke this slumber in 2021. Prices start at $24,950.</li></ul><p>Back in September, <keyword id="596" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Hyundai">Hyundai</keyword> showed us the new, fourth-generation <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2021-hyundai-tucson-teaser-new-styling-and-2-wheelbases-available-2020-9">2022 Hyundai Tucson</a> in all of its geometric glory, sporting new tech and an airy interior. With its arrival at dealerships fast approaching, we now have an idea of how much it'll cost.</p><p>On Monday, the automaker <a href="https://www.hyundainews.com/en-us/releases/3267#Photos">announced</a> that prices for the new Tucson will start at $24,950 for the front-wheel drive, 2.5-liter engine SE trim. There will be a total of 15 different trim combinations, with the range-topping Limited HEV hybrid version starting at $37,350.</p><p>All prices exclude the $1,185 destination and handling fee.</p><p>You can see a full rundown of the new Tucson's prices below.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Hyundai Tucson pricing." height="1292" width="713" msid="81415145" hostid="261"></div><p>Last year, the automaker <a href="https://www.hyundainews.com/en-us/releases/3267">unveiled</a> the latest version of its globally best-selling model and its most popular SUV in the US. It comes with a "jewel-like" front grille made up of "half-mirror type daytime running lamps that are assimilated seamlessly within the parametric grille" and are "only revealed when illuminated." Neat! </p><div type="image" title="2022 Hyundai Tucson_3" height="1764" width="2500" msid="78133410" hostid="261"></div><p>It's the same story from the back: the new Tucson has full-width tail lights that have half-hidden triangles on them that you can only see when they're lit. These design elements make the Tucson unlike all of the other cars in the saturated SUV market. </p><p>Engine options include a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, good for a claimed 187 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. It's hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Hyundai Tucson_6" height="1763" width="2500" msid="78133413" hostid="261"></div><p>Then there's the 1.6-liter, turbocharged hybrid or plug-in hybrid option. That engine makes a claimed 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque combined. There's also a sportier N Line performance version of the new Tucson that'll start at $30,600.</p><p>The Tucson will have available all-wheel drive, including on the N Line model. Previous versions of it had eco, comfort, smart, and sport driving modes. The newest version has mud, sand, and snow conditions added in certain markets.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Hyundai Tucson_2" height="1763" width="2500" msid="78133421" hostid="261"></div><p>Inside, the Tucson appears quite spacious indeed. The dashboard is kept low relative to the window line, which will hopefully improve visibility. Similar to Mercedes-Benz, the interior will now come with 64 different colors of ambient lighting that have 10 levels of adjustable brightness. </p><p>There are two stacked 10.25-inch full touch screens that house controls for the navigation system, infotainment, and climate. If you're someone who likes buttons, this might not be the interior for you. Hyundai even made it a point to say that the screens are "exempt of hard buttons."</p><div type="image" title="2022 Hyundai Tucson_7" height="1668" width="2500" msid="78133426" hostid="261"></div><p>There's also a feature called Car-to-Home, which lets you control your smart home appliances from the car. <br /><ul><li>Overall passenger vehicle segment crossed the 20 lakh units sales mark for the first time-ever in the first half this year.</li><li>Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a double-digit growth in dispatches to dealers, while Kia saw a dip in wholesales last month.</li><li>MG Motor India also reported a double-digit increase in retail sales in June 2023 compared to the same month last year.</li></ul>New Delhi, Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) and Hyundai posted single-digit growth in domestic sales in June, even as the overall passenger vehicle segment crossed the 20 lakh units sales mark for the first time-ever in the first half this year. Toyota Kirloskar Motor reported a double-digit growth in dispatches to dealers, while Kia saw a dip in wholesales last month. MG Motor India also reported a double-digit increase in retail sales in June 2023 compared to the same month last year. <br /><br />Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, said its domestic passenger vehicle sales rose 8 per cent to 1,33,027 units in June against 1,22,685 units in the year-ago period. <br /><br />Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell marginally to 14,054 units compared to 14,442 units a year ago. <br /><br />Similarly, sales in the compact segment, models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, slumped 17 per cent to 64,471 units from 77,746 cars in June 2022. <br /><br />Utility vehicle sales, including Brezza, Grand Vitara and Ertiga, however, surged over two-fold to 43,404 units compared to 18,860 vehicles in the year-ago month, MSI said. <br /><br />MSI Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said the automaker grew faster than the industry in June, enabling it to scale up its overall market share by 2.4 per cent to 41 per cent. <br /><br />The overall passenger vehicle industry dispatches grew by 1.9 per cent to 3,27,700 lakh units from 3,21,600 lakh units in the year-ago period, he said. <br /><br />MSI, on the other hand, dispatched 1,33,027 lakh passenger vehicles last month, up 8 per cent from 1,22,685 lakh units in June 2022. <br /><br />Srivastava noted that the domestic passenger vehicle segment has crossed 20 lakh sales-mark in the first half of the year, a 10 per cent growth over 18.31 lakh units dispatched in the January-June period of 2022. <br /><br />MSI dispatches to dealers during the period stood at 8,61,000 units over 7,87,000 units in the corresponding period a year ago, he added. <br /><br />He noted that the company's SUV market share rose to 21 per cent in the April-June quarter this fiscal, compared to an 8.5 per cent market share in the same period of the preceding fiscal. <br /><br />Srivastava noted that with the addition of new models like Jimny and Fronx, the company remained hopeful of attaining around 25 per cent market share in the segment to take the top slot in the segment by the end of the current financial year. <br /><br />On supply chain shortages, he said the situation is expected to get better in the current quarter. <br /><br />MSI currently has a pending order backlog of 3.55 lakh units, he stated. <br /><br />When asked about challenges, Srivastava said that high-interest rates and chances of an erratic monsoon were some of the factors, which the company was closely monitoring. <br /><br />Rival Hyundai Motor India reported a 2 per cent rise in its domestic sales at 50,001 units last month from 49,001 units in June 2022. <br /><br />"There is a positive customer traction for all our products and Verna, Creta and Tucson have attained leadership positions in their respective segments in the first half of CY23," HMIL COO Tarun Garg said. <br /><br />Toyota Kirloskar Motor also said its total wholesales increased 19 per cent to 19,608 units in June compared to 16,512 units in the year-ago period. Its domestic dispatches stood at 18,237 units while overseas shipments were at 1,371 units. <br /><br />"Ever since the launch of Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Innova Hycross, we are witnessing continued high acceptance by our customers," TKM Vice President (Sales and Strategic Marketing) Atul Sood said. <br /><br />On the other hand, Kia India said its domestic wholesales declined 19 per cent to 19,391 units in June. The company dispatched 24,024 units to dealers in June 2022. <br /><br />"We have kept our performance steady with healthy growth, despite the realignment of our manufacturing process to accommodate the development of the new Seltos this month," Kia India National Head (Sales &amp; Marketing) Hardeep Singh Brar said. <br /><br />With the launch of new Seltos, the automaker aims to be one of the top mid-SUV segment leaders again and hopes for a strong sales surge, he added. <br /><br />Another automaker, MG Motor India reported a 14 per cent increase in retail sales at 5,125 units in June 2023 against 4,504 units in the same month last year. <br /><br />"Supplies were disrupted in the wake of cyclone Biparjoy though customer demand should now gain momentum following the monsoon as India gears up for a long festive season," the company said.

The four-cylinder's 281 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque made merging and passing a breeze. </p><h2><strong>Con: Pricier than the Ford Maverick</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup." height="1875" width="2500" msid="89600606" hostid="261"></div><p>Shoppers looking for a compact truck can choose from two options: the Santa Cruz and the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ford-maverick-truck-hybrid-review-price-mpg-hyundai-santa-cruz-2022-1">Ford Maverick</a>. The Santa Cruz is the pricier option, starting at around $24,000 and stretching past $40,000 for a fully-loaded model. </p><p>The Maverick starts at $20,000. An all-wheel-drive, turbocharged Maverick can be had for less than $24,000. To get the same in the Santa Cruz, you need to upgrade to the SEL Premium trim, which costs $35,830. </p><p>For the extra dough, though, the Santa Cruz comes with more standard tech and a more plush interior than its rival. </p><h2><strong>Pro: Extensive safety and tech features</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz." height="1584" width="2113" msid="89600607" hostid="261"></div><p>Lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and forward-collision warning all come standard on the Santa Cruz. Limited models also come with blind-spot monitoring and blind-spot camera views that display whenever you hit the turn signals, which I found extremely helpful. </p><p>Base models come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. </p><h2><strong>Con: Compact truck, compact back seat</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup." height="3333" width="2500" msid="89600608" hostid="261"></div><p>While the Santa Cruz sits on the same underpinnings as Hyundai's Tucson SUV, Hyundai had to do some rearranging to fit a truck bed in that footprint. That meant sacrificing some room in the back seat. While legroom isn't terrible, large adults may find the rear seats cramped on long journeys. The upright seating position doesn't help matters. </p><h2><strong>Pro: Weird for the better</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="The 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup." height="1875" width="2500" msid="89600609" hostid="261"></div><p>It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I quite like the Santa Cruz's oddball styling. Buyers conflated their economy pricing with sub-par quality to the detriment of the automakers. But that is no more.</p><p>Within the last 15 years or so, Hyundai and Kia shed their crap-can reputations and instead focused on making cars that people actually wanted to buy - quality cars that looked good and were good to drive, too.</p><p>Perhaps the most shining example of that is the new <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/kia-telluride">Kia Telluride</a>, a midsize three-row SUV named after a posh ski town in Colorado. The Telluride felt like a crowning moment of just how far Hyundai and Kia have come. </p><p>It, plus the other offerings out of South Korea, hopefully symbolize a willingness to commit to what it takes to challenge current industry giants like Honda and Toyota - and if Hyundai and Kia do commit, those giants will be in for a fight.</p><h2>Selling like hotcakes</h2><p>Much of the Telluride's initial coverage focused on how popular it was. It's called the Kia "Sell-u-ride" internally, <a href="https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2020-kia-telluride-sales-selluride/">Automobile Magazine</a> reported. Dealers couldn't keep them on their lots because demand was so high, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/23/success/kia-telluride-suv-demand/index.html">CNN said</a>. Kia couldn't build the Telluride fast enough to meet the need, <a href="https://www.thecarconnection.com/news/1128765_kia-has-a-problem-it-can-t-build-the-telluride-fast-enough">The Car Connection</a> wrote.</p><p>The best-selling Telluride, <a href="https://carbuzz.com/news/buyers-are-spending-big-on-hot-selling-kia-telluride">CarBuzz</a> discovered, is the top-tier SX trim with the Premium Package. That one runs you at <a href="https://www.kia.com/us/en/telluride/build?chid=sem&amp;CID=20253636&amp;SID=4132975&amp;PID=204339314&amp;AID=404123698&amp;CRD=0&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjwtZH7BRDzARIsAGjbK2YpMT2PWxvj1oQKvJr9Tso6FWAPmEjRtE4phd7bYa-ZeNH36UujxZMaAhqrEALw_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds&amp;model=J4482&amp;exterior=Everlasting+Silver&amp;interior=Black+Nappa+Leather+Seat+Trim&amp;packages=GSJ&amp;trim=SXa+Leather+Seat+Trim&amp;packages=GSJ&amp;trim=SX">a starting MSRP of $46,390</a> - or a little more than a base Mercedes-Benz GLC.</p><div type="image" title="2020 Kia Telluride_25" height="1667" width="2500" msid="78334256" hostid="261"></div><p>When the Telluride came out, I'd never seen such astonished headlines about one particular SUV before. There must have been something different about this Kia that was causing buyers to flock to it, so <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2020-kia-telluride-review-price-specs-suv-horsepower-three-row-2020-9">I went and reviewed one to see what all the fuss is about</a>.</p><p>And you know what? I get it. </p><p>The outside of the Telluride is striking. With its big, wide grille, its own name - T E L L U R I D E - stamped in silver lettering across its nose, its stacked headlights and square, orange daytime running lights, the Telluride's face is not one that blends in with the rather bland SUVs it competes with. The perennially popular Toyota Highlander, conversely, is rolling anonymity. </p><p>The Telluride is bold. It demands attention. And it doesn't look like anything Kia has ever made or currently makes. If you covered up the badge, I probably wouldn't have even thought it was a Kia at all. </p><div type="image" title="2020 kia telluride" height="1671" width="2500" msid="78334258" hostid="261"></div><p>Inside, it's the same story. High-quality leathers, wood-appearing trim, simulated brushed metal switches and dials. Refinement, spaciousness. Upscale.</p><p>Rap on the dash with your knuckles and it doesn't respond with that cheap, clacky, plasticky response. Toggle the air vents and they slide smoothly in their sockets. Close the doors and they return a satisfying thump. </p><p>Fully loaded, my review Telluride came to just under $50,000. It was an incredible amount of car for the price, punching far above its weight and infringing dangerously close to luxury automaker territory.</p><h2>Building the good cars</h2><p>This upward trend with South Korean automakers started a few years ago and it might just give them a fighting chance against the Japanese ones - provided they keep investing the time, money, and resources required for maintaining that momentum. Because, so far, the cars have been good.</p><div type="image" title="The new Genesis G70." height="1429" width="2500" msid="78334261" hostid="261"></div><p>The Telluride's biggest draw is that it offers an upmarket product that's priced lower than many of its competitors.</p><p>There still might be a struggle with <a href="https://jalopnik.com/what-hyundai-plans-to-do-to-make-genesis-the-next-lexus-1795666983">brand recognition issues</a> over at Hyundai's new luxury arm, Genesis, but the quality of its cars is undeniable. The <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/2020-genesis-g90-a-full-model-change-at-mid-cycle-1028706249">G90</a> and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2021-genesis-g80-has-stunning-looks-and-375-horsepower-v6-2020-3">G80</a> sedans are executive and just as comfortable to ride in as they are <a href="https://jalopnik.com/what-hyundai-plans-to-do-to-make-genesis-the-next-lexus-1795666983">to drive</a>. The G70 sport sedan is <a href="https://jalopnik.com/the-2019-genesis-g70-should-make-german-automakers-very-1827584004">light-footed and fun</a>, especially when paired with a manual transmission.</p><p>The <a href="https://jalopnik.com/five-things-we-loved-about-the-2020-hyundai-santa-fe-li-1840132801">Hyundai Sante Fe I tested in 2019</a> was tastefully upholstered inside. The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2022-hyundai-tucson-debut-suv-specs-info-availability-2020-9">new Tucson</a> and <a href="https://jalopnik.com/i-got-one-thing-to-say-about-the-2020-hyundai-sonata-d-1834173700">Sonata</a> are dazzling to look at. The <a href="https://jalopnik.com/how-the-hyundai-veloster-n-became-the-new-office-favori-1837611130">Hyundai Veloster N</a> remains one of the best and most fun cars I've ever driven, and it starts at about $30,000.</p><p>You know about the <keyword id="7213277" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="kia-telluride">Kia Telluride</keyword>. But before that, the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kia-stinger-review-business-insider-car-of-the-year-2018-11">Kia Stinger</a> sport sedan came bursting out of the gates with a hatch-style trunk and sharp looks, winning Business Insider's 2018 Car of the Year award. </p><div type="image" title="2019 Hyundai Veloster N." height="1667" width="2500" msid="78334268" hostid="261"></div><p>The new, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-kia-sedona-minivan-looks-an-suv-2020-6">2022 Sedona's redesign</a> could very well make minivans cool again. And <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/2021-kia-k5-specs-features-photos-release-date">the new K5 sedan</a>, which will replace the Optima, is a sporty and handsome thing <a href="https://www.kia.com/us/en/k5">that starts at $23,590</a>.</p><p>These cars are proof that style doesn't always have to command top dollar. In fact, it shouldn't.</p><h2>Humble beginnings</h2><p>The ascent of South Korean automakers in the US public consciousness only started happening within the last 15 years or so.</p><p>A <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/29/business/hyundai-near-top-of-a-quality-ranking.html">2004 story in The New York Times</a> reported that new-car buyers ranked Hyundai above any domestic or European automaker in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. It was the first time this had ever happened. </p><p>The story quoted the agency's then executive director of quality and customer satisfaction, Joe Ivers, as saying: "A decade ago, as Korean manufacturers struggled with a universally poor reputation for vehicle quality, no one would have predicted they could not only keep the pace, but actually pass domestics and other imports in terms of initial quality."</p><div type="image" title="Hyundai 39788 2020SonataSEL" height="1334" width="2000" msid="78334278" hostid="261"></div><p>That wasn't the whole story, though. The outlet pointed out that Kia continued to be a "subpar performer in the initial-quality rankings."</p><p>"And in J.D. Power's most recent study of long-term reliability, which many in the industry consider to be a more important barometer, the Hyundai brand ranks near the bottom of the industry and Kia is dead last," The New York Times wrote. </p><p>This is no longer the case.</p><h2>Ascension</h2><p>In 2018, <a href="https://jalopnik.com/genesis-hyundai-and-kia-topped-even-porsche-in-the-201-1827016493">the three highest-ranked brands on J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study</a> were Genesis, Kia, and Hyundai. That same year, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-22/korean-cars-pull-ahead-of-german-brands-consumer-reports-says?sref=P6Q0mxvj">Consumer Reports named Genesis the top brand in the US</a>. This past February, <a href="https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1127099_genesis-tops-2020-j-d-power-vehicle-dependability-study">Genesis was ranked first</a> on J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study.  </p><p>In a matter of a few years, the results have almost completely reversed themselves.</p><div type="image" title="2022 Kia Sedona1" height="1252" width="2000" msid="78334284" hostid="261"></div><p>Gone are the days when you'd reject a Kia simply because it was a Korean car. <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ipb3VBpDvis">Han's casual dismissal of Hyundai</a> in "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" doesn't hold the same type of punch-down humor it once did.</p><p>You do get the sense that Hyundai and Kia are still figuring out a cohesive design strategy - all BMWs look like BMWs, but not all Kias and Hyundais look like Kias and Hyundais yet - but as for what's underneath? They've got that on lock. Based on what I've seen in just the past few years, what's to come can only get better.</p><p>There's still a long road ahead if the brands want to displace industry titans like Toyota and Honda - and even Nissan - of course. Hyundai and Kia account for just 8.1% of the market share in the US, <a href="https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2020/02/129_270276.html">The Korea Times</a> reported in 2019. That was despite the greatly improved products. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Kia K5 GT." height="1333" width="2000" msid="78334290" hostid="261"></div><p>That modest market share is also comprised of weak segments - hatchbacks and compact sedans, as well as low-margin cars - so Kia and Hyundai must build up numbers there, too. Headline-grabbing Stingers and Tellurides can't net all of the sales, after all. </p><p>But it's an optimistic spot to be in all the same. The crap-can reputation is a thing of the past, and that accounts very powerfully for public perception. With the Telluride especially, Kia has shown that it not only can, but will, build, execute, and sell a quality car that people actually want to buy.</p><p>The trick is to carry that same energy over to everything else.</p>
