In spite of a widespread slowdown across industry, The country spent ₹422 billion on advertising and promotions in 2018-19 — up 12% from last year. India’s advertising industry is estimated to be the second fastest growing advertising market in Asia, according to a report titled ‘Trends in advertising and sales promotion spends in India’ by CARE Ratings. In fact, the sectors with lower net sales — FMCG, healthcare and chemicals — are also spending on ads. Households and personal products, recreational clubs and TV broadcasting and software production contributed the highest share of their net-sales-to-advertising at 12%, 11% and 6% respectively. However, Information Technology (IT) sector spends the least on advertising. According to the report, it spent nearly ₹10 billion on advertising during 2019 fiscal compared to ₹9 billion last year. Growth of foreign tourist arrivals to India slowed down to 2.7 per cent in January-October period of 2019 in tune with the global trend, according to the Economic Survey 2019-20.
 The Indian tourism sector, which is a major engine of growth, had witnessed a strong performance from 2015 to 2017, with high growth in foreign tourist arrivals, the survey tabled in Parliament on Friday said.
 "However, foreign tourist arrivals growth (year-on year) has decelerated since then to 5.2 per cent in 2018 and 2.7 per cent in January-October 2019," it said.
 This trend, however, is not unique to India, as the growth in international tourist arrivals globally also slowed from 7.1 per cent in 2017 to 5.4 per cent in 2018, it added.
 As a result, the survey said growth in foreign exchange earnings from tourism sector has slowed in 2018 and 2019 after registering strong growth until 2017.
 "Foreign exchange earnings totalled USD 24 billion in January-October 2019, with a growth of 2 per cent," it said.
 In 2018, India ranked 22nd in the world in terms of international tourist arrivals, improving from the 26th position in 2017.
 "India now accounts for 1.24 per cent of world's international tourist arrivals and 5 per cent of Asia &amp; Pacific's international tourist arrivals," it said.
 In terms of foreign exchange earnings from tourism, India ranks 13th in the world and 7th in Asia &amp; Pacific.
 The survey said visitors from the top 10 countries -- Bangladesh, USA, UK, Sri Lanka, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, China, Germany and Russia -- accounted for 65 per cent of the total foreign tourist arrivals in India.
 Among foreign tourists, 62.4 per cent visited India for leisure, holiday and recreation, 16.3 per cent for business purposes, and 13.5 per cent was Indian diaspora, it added.
 With the e-Visa scheme available for 169 countries, the survey said foreign tourist arrivals to India on e-visas increased from 4.45 lakh in 2015 to 23.69 lakh in 2018, and stood at 21.75 lakh in January-October 2019, recording nearly 21 per cent year-on-year growth from the previous year. Foreign tourists in India fell sharply even before the corona virus outbreak

It was the fourth most searched show on Google in 2018, said China Internet Report 2019. The report however does not reveal any details about the viewership of the show in the country. The show was also declared as the ninth most searched keyword in India and fourth most searched show in the world, in Google Trends 2018. Motu Patlu is a classic Indian cartoon series on the same lines as Laurel and Hardy. Two best friends <keyword id="1405941" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Motu-and-Patlu">Motu and Patlu</keyword> constantly run into trouble, and subsequently chased by a police officer. Global hit Indian Shows Motu Paltu is not the only Indian toon to international. Netflix show <keyword id="7870030" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mighty-Bheem">Mighty Bheem</keyword>, based on popular Indian show Chhota Bheem too garnered viewers internationally. Infact, the series’ 21 short Youtube videos have grossed 22 million viewers. And its ‘local’ flavour is the reason for its success. “The content is authentically Indian. The setting is rural India. The stories and characters are local. The more authentically local the show is, the better it travels,” Ted Sarandos chief content officer of Netflix told Business Insider India. If the trend continues, Indian cartoons might give a tough competition to their Japanese counterparts. For decades, Japanese cartoons and characters like Shin Chan, Doraemon, Pokemon and Ninja Hattori have been capturing the minds of children around the world, telling authentic Asian stories. New Delhi, Jun 19 () Global property consultant Cushman &amp; Wakefield (C&amp;W) has projected that office rentals might drop 5-10 per cent on lower demand for office space from corporates because of the coronavirus pandemic. The outbreak of the coronavirus disease will have a short-term impact on India's office market, with demand likely to fall 45 per cent, said C&amp;W Managing Director (India and Southeast Asia) Anshul Jain. The net leasing or absorption of office space might fall to 25 million sq ft this year across eight major cities as against 45 million sq ft during 2019, he said. Jain was speaking at a webinar organised by Workplace Trends India founder Tushar Mittal, who also heads interior design firm SKV. The other speaker at the webinar was Chris Browne, managing director and head of global occupier services (Asia Pacific) at C&amp;W, Workplace Trends India said in a statement. "The commercial real estate rental situation at present is very different from the global financial crisis situation of 2008-09, when the supply outstripped demand. We were in an oversupplied situation then, right now we are not in an oversupply situation. "Having said that, there will be short-term softness in the market and I think the rentals may come down in some pockets between 5 and 10 per cent," Jain said. Notwithstanding a likely fall in demand, supply and rentals of office space this year, he expressed confidence that the office market in India would grow in a medium-to-long term. The de-densification of office space would largely compensate for any fall in demand because of adoption of work from home (WFH) policy by corporates, the consultant added. Stating that the fundamentals of the Indian economy remain intact, Jain said India might gain eventually and attract more outsourcing jobs because of stagnation or fall in wages and salaries, and dollar appreciation. "I think our fundamentals are still in place, the factor advantage in terms of young working population, english speaking and top of it, skill set is increasing very significantly. "Besides that, chances are that even in 2021 or 2022, we will be at 2019 wage levels, because there has been no wage growth this year. Instead, there is a wage deflation this year," he said. Explaining further, Jain said, "If I am a BPO (business process outsourcing executive), in 2022, my wages will be at 2019 level. In real terms, there is a big saving. My rentals are 5 to 10 per cent less and the dollar has appreciated by 10 per cent. So, my cost advantage for India becomes huge. So, I think medium-term prospects for India remain very strong." Echoing Jain's views, Browne said India could benefit from this pandemic due to cost pressure in other countries. "I work for MNCs (multinational companies) and most of the clients are western MNCs and they all have a presence in India. I think with the cost pressure they are facing, they are looking for alternative solutions. "With the quality and amount of talent in India as well as improvement in infrastructure, I think this is going to mitigate some or the other financial impacts on sectors like real estate. So, I see key markets like India as a beneficiary," Browne said. On the WFH policy, Jain said the companies would certainly give more flexibility to employees. "Work from home will gain strength, but that may be just 10-15 per cent of the workforce." COVID-19: Office rentals may dip 5-10 pc on lower demand

Mumbai, Jan 13 () Even as there was marginal improvement in financial performance during the first half of 2019-20, profit margins for bulk tea players are likely to remain under pressure due to tepid tea price movement in the current financial year, according to a report.
 "The marginal increase in overall tea prices together with muted growth in tea production for the large bulk tea players are likely to constrain any improvement in the operating profitability of bulk tea producers in 2019-20," Icra Vice-President and Sector Head (Corporate Sector Ratings) Kaushik Das said.
 This is despite the fact that labour cost is unlikely to witness any material increase in the current financial year, he added.
 "However, organised players with a high proportion of orthodox tea volumes could be an exception and are likely to see some improvement driven by significant increase in orthodox tea prices," he added.
 In the first eight months of 2019-20, tea auction prices in North India (NI) remained flat, owing to continued pressure on CTC tea prices.
 Though firm orthodox tea prices provided some respite, limited volumes of orthodox teas in total NI production curbed the overall improvement in North India auction prices.
 Icra also noted that while CTC tea prices for the organised segment witnessed an improvement of around 5-6 per cent during August-October 2019, owing to estimated crop loss during August 2019, the same seemed to have tapered down in November 2019.
 In addition, the increase in production by the organised players based out of NI remained muted at around 1.8 per cent with major increase only happening in the bought leaf segment to around 6.5 per cent.
 Prices at the South Indian (SI) auction centres, after remaining firm till the beginning of July 2019, witnessed a continuous decline for the past 3-4 months, following the crop recovery in June-August 2019.
 On a cumulative basis, the SI's auction prices declined by around 3 per cent during 8 months of 2019-20 because of higher supply.
 Meanwhile, the overall global tea production declined marginally by 0.6 per cent during the 10 months of the calendar year 2019, primarily due to a fall in Kenyan production (around 8 per cent), which offset the increase in Indian production to a large extent.
 The softer trend in global tea prices also impacted India's export prospects, primarily for the CTC variety.
 Overall, the total Indian export volume remained stagnant during the first 10 months of 2019, however, there has been a considerable growth of around 10 per cent in the export realisation due to healthy demand, particularly from Iran.
 However, going forward, sustainability of such trends for orthodox teas remains uncertain as of now.
