The board of ABFRL has approved the setting up of a new D2C subsidiary. Thrasio has acquired more than 100 third party sellers or fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) businesses and is valued at $6 billion.<br /><br />Indian players like 10Club, Mensa Brands (founded by Myntra's former CEO Ananth Narayanan) and GlobalBees (founded by FirstCry founder Supam Maheshwari and Edelweiss' former executive Nitin Agarwal) have garnered the interest of investors. Notably, Mensa Brands is the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/former-myntra-ceo-started-mensa-brand-in-may-and-its-already-worth-a-billion-dollars-with/amp_articleshow/87735832.cms">youngest Indian startup</a> to be valued over a billion dollars and 10Club raised the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/startups/news/bhavna-suresh-has-closed-indias-largest-seed-round-for-her-nine-month-old-startup-10club/amp_articleshow/83978841.cms">largest seed round</a> in Asia, last year. <br /><br />Even Thrasio is not willing to let go off this opportunity. The company will be looking to invest <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/ecommerce/news/amazon-aggregator-thrasio-will-invest-half-a-billion-dollars-in-buying-indian-brands/amp_articleshow/88894791.cms">half a billion dollars</a> in the Indian market over the next few years. <br /><br />The combined revenue of all D2C retailers in India was $3 billion in 2020, and is likely to be $35 billion by 2025, according to a recent report by O3 Capital. The latest platform will enable Indians to start their own businesses without any additional investors, the Walmart-owned company said. <br /><br />“With the ability to influence their local network and fulfill their aspirations, users of Shopsy will be able to share catalogues of a wide selection of 15 crore products offered by Flipkart sellers,” the company said in a statement. The catalogue will include products across fashion, beauty, mobiles, electronics and home among others. <br /><br />Users can register on the Shopsy app using their phone numbers and start earning by sharing their handpicked catalogue with their network. The user will earn commissions on every order they place on the customer’s behalf. The commission percentage will vary depending on the category of products being ordered.<br /><br />This is not the first time Flipkart has experimented with its social commerce play. Last July, the company had started experimenting with video commerce as well, with its refurbished goods platform 2Gud. <br /><br />2GudSocial (social.2Gud.com), which is no longer accessible, was live for mobile phones around the same time last year. It allowed content creators to make short videos to sell certain products ranging from fashion, retail, mobile, electronics and accessories.<br /><br />The launch of Shopsy has put Flipkart’s platform in a full circle, which not only allows sellers to sell online, but allows customers to promote their favourite product and earn through it. This is also the biggest entry into the <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> social commerce segment, which is currently led by six-year-old Meesho. Other big players in the market were founded only two-three years ago.<br /><br />Meesho leads the segment with over <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/advertising/brands/article/meesho-the-latest-company-to-join-the-unicorn-club-aims-to-build-a-single-ecosystem-to-help-smbs/articleshow/81953840.cms">$515 million</a> in funding raised to date and is valued at $2.1 billion. It claims to have over 12 million individual entrepreneurs on the platform selling to over 45 million customers. The holiday quickly picked up steam and is only getting bigger, especially as more overseas vendors enter the fray to capitalize on the clicks of the world's largest deals-hungry population. This year, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alibaba-says-singles-day-sales-hit-912-billion-yuan-in-first-hour-2019-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Singles' Day sales surpassed $13 billion in the first hour</a>. Total sales for the day reached a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/alibaba-singles-day-2018-biggest-online-shopping-day-2018-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">record $30.8 billion in 2018</a>. US Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, which totaled a little over <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/black-friday-cyber-monday-vs-singles-day-sales-2018-12" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$6.2 billion and $7.9 billion</a> in 2018, respectively, seem measly in comparison. </p><p>While Alibaba now calls it the 11:11 Global Shopping Festival, Singles' Day has yet to reach a truly global audience. <br /> The refining sector strengthened its standings in the 2016 roster, buoyed by improved margins. This catapulted India's <keyword id="6355199" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reliance-Industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>, helping it to make it global Top 10 debut. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=indian%20companies&amp;sortorder=score">Indian companies</a>, here again got a share of the limelight among the world's biggest movers - those rising by more than 50 positions from a year ago. Refiners Indian Oil Corporation and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd moved to 14th from 66th and to 48thfrom 133rd respectively, lifted by access to cheaper crude.<br />

The Platts Top 250 rankings reflect the financial performance of publicly traded energy companies with assets greater than U.S.$5 billion, and are based on a combination of assvalue, revenue, profit and return on invested capital (ROIC) for the latest fiscal year (2015).<br />

Independent power producers (IPPs) and the power and natural gas utility sector turned out to be the biggest winners in the 2016 rankings.<br />
<br /> <keyword id="197774" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Adani-Power-Ltd">Adani Power Ltd</keyword> and IPP ranked at 250th also made its debut, with a 3-year compound growth rate of 54.9%, and also turned out to be the fastest growing energy company in Asia-Pacific and the second fastest in the world.<br />

When it came to coal demand India was also the only prominent country. Consumption increased nearly 5%. The outstanding performance of the coal industry helped the largest pure coal mining company in the world, Coal India, to achieve its place at 38th in the Top 250 ranks.<br />

Not only Asia-Pacific companies made headlines, they also managed to get 19 of those top spots among fastest growing companies, which were dominated by power companies, but they were winners on several other fronts this year<br />
<br />
South Korea's Korea Electric Power Corp (KEPCO) now stands just behind Exxon, which held at #1 for the 12th consecutive year. KEPCO was the surprise in the global Top 250 leader board as it stood at 2nd place, a rise from 41st place in 2015.<br />
<br />
Exploration and production got hit in the rankings as they came down to only 16 positions from 42 last year. About 24 U.S. and Canadian firms have dropped out of the rankings. But it was U.S.-based E&amp;P Antero Resources Corp. that topped the fastest growers with a 3-year compound growth rate of 81.1%.<br />

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Mirik Milan's title says it all:&#xa0;<em>Night mayor.</em></p><p>Milan, 35, minds his metropolis - Amsterdam, the Netherlands - while the daytime politicians are fast asleep.&#xa0;</p><p>"The night is treated differently than the day," Milan says.</p><p>"When there is a problem, the first reaction of city officials or police is to say, 'We can't do this anymore, we have to stop, and with it, killing an industry," he says, like what happened in London,&#xa0;<a href="https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/londons_grassroots_music_venues_-_rescue_plan_-_october_2015.pdf">where 35% of smaller music venues shut down between 2007 and 2015</a>.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>His job, and that of his nonprofit <a href="http://nachtburgemeester.amsterdam/">Nacht Burgemeester Amsterdam</a>, is to act as a bridge between city hall and Amsterdam nighttime businesses (namely, dance clubs) and the neighborhoods they operate in.<p>It's a "multi-stakeholder" approach, says Milan; the idea is to get everybody into a dialogue that benefits all.&#xa0;</p><p>First founded in 2014, the nonprofit has helped make some major successes happen, like with clarifying drug use policies with a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGcGyBorbcs">"Party in the Netherlands" public service campaign</a>, <a href="http://www.amsterdam-dance-event.nl/">helping organize&#xa0;the Amsterdam Dance Event mega-conference</a>, and the introduction of <a href="http://www.citylab.com/cityfixer/2016/01/night-mayor-amsterdam-mirik-milan/433893/">"square hosts,"</a> a "soft enforcement" force created by City Hall to deescalate potential rowdiness in bar-filled squares like&#xa0;Rembrandtplein in central Amsterdam.</p><p>Most notably, the city is now seeing the start of&#xa0;<a href="http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=29679">24-hour permits&#xa0;for dance clubs</a>. Soon,&#xa0;10&#xa0;clubs around town will be able to be open through the night and&#xa0;day.</p><p>This creates obvious benefits for the party scene: Amsterdam will be able to better compete with London (where parties go until 8 a.m.) and Berlin (where parties go all night, and then another night), leading to bigger lineups of performers and bigger profits for clubowners. Milan has said&#xa0;<a href="http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/binge-drinking-how-amsterdams-night-mayor-mirik-milan-trying-kick-citys-habit-1520831">liberal policies helped Amsterdam attract 5.3 million tourists in 2014, up more than 50% since 2000</a>.&#xa0;</p><p><br>The 24-hour permits actually make things&#xa0;<em>less </em>rowdy,&#xa0;Milan&#xa0;says.&#xa0;<a href="http://www.iea.org.uk/publications/research/drinking-fast-and-slow-ten-years-of-the-licensing-act">Research from the UK</a> has shown that 24-hour permits&#xa0;actually&#xa0;<em>reduce</em> binge drinking - plus the fact that&#xa0;when a thousand people are pushed onto the street at 4 a.m. after spending hours dancing to loud music, they don't exactly know how to be quiet. Now they'll be streaming out over the course of hours rather than all at once.&#xa0;<div></div></br></p><p>Better yet, the venues can open themselves to more than just dance music.&#xa0;</p><p>"A modern day nightclub should also be doing stuff for the neighborhood," Milan&#xa0;says. "Art spaces, creative workspaces, so the whole area benefits from the space being there."&#xa0;</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The "night mayor" position came to Amsterdam in 2003&#xa0;when policymakers realized they needed a way to communicate with the nightlife community.&#xa0;<p>Milan, who had been in the party promotions game since age 20, saw that there was a lot of improvements to be done regarding licensing and organizing for festivals, so he set up the nonprofit in 2014.&#xa0;&#xa0;</p><p>For Milan, the full realization of the night mayor movement would be to set up a "24-hour zone" in the city: an area what would have restaurants for people to eat in, libraries for students to study in, and clubs for revelers to party in around the clock.&#xa0;</p><p>The model is spreading:&#xa0;A full <a href="http://www.citylab.com/cityfixer/2016/01/night-mayor-amsterdam-mirik-milan/433893/">15 other Dutch cities have some sort of night mayor position</a>.&#xa0;Paris, Zurich, and Toulouse all have night mayors, and Milan just met with London mayor Boris Johnson to talk about setting up a night mayor there as he <a href="http://musicvenuetrust.com/2015/10/mayor-acts-on-rescue-plan-to-save-londons-music-venues/">makes a bid to save the city's music venues</a>.
