In a press note, production banner Panorama Studios shared the latest box office figures of the film, which opened to positive reviews upon its release on November 18. "The film has shattered many records since its release. The second highest grosser and opener of the year has entered the Rs 100 crore club in its first week," the statement read. The movie is a sequel to Devgn's 2015 crime thriller "Drishyam", which was the Hindi remake of the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam movie of the same name. The sequel to the Malayalam film released in February 2021. "Drishyam 2" also stars Shriya Saran, Tabu, Rajat Kapoor, and Ishita Dutta and Akshaye Khanna. After the superb action from superhero flick <keyword id="500441" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krrish-3">Krrish 3</keyword>, came this sizzler – <keyword id="1942272" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goliyon-Ki-Raasleela-Ram-leela">Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela</keyword> – a love story with a good dose of spunky cynicism. But the <keyword id="1943889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Romance-drama">romance-drama</keyword> from director-producer <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sanjay-leela-bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword> has stirred up quite a few controversies and failed to catch up with Krrish 3 or <keyword id="227940" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Express">Chennai Express</keyword> who reportedly grossed Rs 100 crore just after 4 days. In contrast, <keyword id="1886157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Leela">Ram-Leela</keyword>’s total <keyword id="182563" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BO">BO</keyword> collection stood at a little less than Rs 60 crore after Day IV, according to industry estimates. 
 <keyword id="122490" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="film-critic">Film critic</keyword> and analyst <keyword id="107593" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Taran-Adarsh">Taran Adarsh</keyword> is, however, constantly tweeting about how the Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer is doing a great job overseas. Its total screen count in the international arena stands at 550 and the <keyword id="6356021" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="movie">movie</keyword> had a superb start in the UAE-GCC, the US, <keyword id="6356687" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="canada">Canada</keyword> and Australia. 
 
According to Adarsh, the movie has taken the global markets by storm and the overseas business during the opening weekend (Nov 15-17) has been bigger than both Krrish 3 and <keyword id="791377" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yeh-Jawaani-Hai-Deewani">Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani</keyword>. The opening day was proof enough for that.

 Overall, the <keyword id="681" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="film">film</keyword> has landed around $4 million or Rs 25 crore overseas in its first weekend, he wrote on a movie site. If it is released in 51 screens across <keyword id="87" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Germany">Germany</keyword> next week, things will definitely look brighter for the <keyword id="1943892" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="SLB-flick">SLB flick</keyword>. 
 But what about the <keyword id="6382118" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Market">domestic market</keyword> where Ram-Leela has opened in nearly 3,500 screens? Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar’s last match could have thrown a spanner in the works during the first weekend, but it did not happen as anticipated. In fact, the movie saw around 70-80% occupancy in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh circuits. That certainly spurred business and it made over Rs 30 crore in just 2 days, with the first day cash haul estimated at Rs 16 crore. 
 
As expected, the film has come with all the usual SLB trappings. Deepika ‘hot-bod’ Padukone and the equally hot Ram have whipped up a sizzling chemistry rarely found on-screen. Well, well, she has been doing it for some time now – right from <keyword id="115922" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Race-2">Race 2</keyword> to Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Chennai Express. Shot in the backdrop of Gujarat (Kutch, to be precise), the film also has <keyword id="20895" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Supriya-Pathak">Supriya Pathak</keyword>, <keyword id="6366549" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Richa-Chadda">Richa Chadda</keyword> and <keyword id="651479" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gulshan-Devaiah">Gulshan Devaiah</keyword> in some key roles. And the story, loosely based on <keyword id="87923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="William-Shakespeare">William Shakespeare</keyword>’s epic romance Romeo and Juliet, has an overdose of everything – vibrant set-up, ethnic costumes, mind-blowing music, great dance numbers and a subtle, satirical touch. 
 Still, the fact remains that it has not romped its way to the Rs <keyword id="6567206" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-club">100 crore club</keyword> the way Deepika’s earlier two movies did (incidentally, <keyword id="6354563" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Hrithik-Roshan">Hrithik Roshan</keyword>’s Krrish 3 is now the <keyword id="1943900" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Highest-Bollywood-grosser">highest Bollywood grosser</keyword> with Rs 231 crore till Nov 16 and still counting). Also, a <keyword id="271279" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bareilly-court">Bareilly court</keyword> has directed today to lodge a case against the <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> and the star cast of Ram-Leela, following a petition that it glorified <keyword id="6355987" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="violence">violence</keyword> and <keyword id="109676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Obscenity">obscenity</keyword>. And that could spell further trouble for the movie. 
 Earlier too, a PIL had been filed on the ground that the movie has humiliated the <keyword id="624" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Women">women</keyword> of the <keyword id="1485927" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Darbar-community">Darbar community</keyword> and hurt religious sentiments. Several organisations have demanded a ban on the film and the opening day had been marred with protests and demonstrations. Would all be well with Ram-Leela in the coming weeks?

Ram-Leela Yet To Enter Rs 100 Crore Club; What
Happened After A Great Start?

All good things must come to an end and the same goes for Bollywood. After a magnificent spell of back-to-back blockbusters in the form 
of <keyword id="227940" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Chennai-Express">Chennai Express</keyword>, <keyword id="500441" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="Krrish-3">Krrish 3</keyword> and <keyword id="1886157" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ram-Leela">Ram-Leela</keyword> (yes, this flick from <keyword id="6358308" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="sanjay-leela-bhansali">Sanjay Leela Bhansali</keyword> is finally looking <keyword id="41744" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="UP">up</keyword> and nearing the Rs 100 crore mark but more on that later), two more movies hit the screens on Friday (November 22) – <keyword id="2165" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor">Kareena Kapoor</keyword> (<keyword id="2857" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bebo">Bebo</keyword>) and <keyword id="14676" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Imran-Khan">Imran Khan</keyword>’s much-hyped <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword> <keyword id="1538595" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gori-Tere-Pyaar-Mein">Gori Tere Pyaar Mein</keyword> and <keyword id="9271" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sunny-Deol">Sunny Deol</keyword>’s rustic action flick <keyword id="1481019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Singh-Saab-The-Great">Singh Saab The Great</keyword>. But after our usual 4-day tally, the numbers are none too impressive. 
 
Let’s take a close look at Gori Tere first, directed by <keyword id="112568" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Punit-Malhotra">Punit Malhotra</keyword>. According to a trade website, the total collection after 4 days (Nov 22-25) stands at a paltry Rs 16.5 crore and certainly nowhere near the Big League. In his latest tweet, film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh says: #GTPM is better in UAE, below the mark in USA-Canada &amp; UK, poor in Australia and disaster in NZ. Overseas total: $ 980,000 [Rs 6.12 crore]. 
 
If the collection doesn’t pick up soon, Imran could be in trouble. Well, <keyword id="828519" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Main-Aur-Ekk-Tu">Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu</keyword> (Shakun Batra’s directorial debut in 2012), his last movie opposite Bebo, did well at <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> and grossed a total of $8.1 million in India and abroad. But the year 2013 hasn’t been exactly great and both his films, <keyword id="814061" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Matru-Ki-Bijlee-Ka-Mandola">Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola</keyword> (a <keyword id="825824" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="political-satire">political satire</keyword>) and <keyword id="1717335" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Once-Upon-A-Time-In-Mumbai-Dobaara">Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara</keyword> (a <keyword id="1952408" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Gangster-flick">gangster flick</keyword>) failed to bomb the box office. In contrast, Bebo has done extremely well in Madhur Bhandarkar’s <keyword id="6439486" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="heroine">Heroine</keyword> and <keyword id="125922" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Reema-Kagti">Reema Kagti</keyword>’s suspense thriller <keyword id="1952412" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash-The-Answer-Lies-Within">Talaash: The Answer Lies Within</keyword>. Starring <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>, Rani Mukerji and Kareena Kapoor, <keyword id="861273" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Talaash">Talaash</keyword> also entered the <keyword id="925977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rs-100-crore-club">Rs 100 crore club</keyword> and raked in a total of Rs 131.78 crore. 
 However, the <keyword id="1952416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lukewarm-response">lukewarm response</keyword> to Gori Tere could be due to the over-used theme. Although Imran sparkles in his romedy (romance-comedy) role as a rich architect and Bebo looks pretty stunning in her desi avatar while she pursues her fiery zeal for social work, the ‘bridging’ between the ‘unlikely’ partners is kind of predictable nowadays. And strangely enough, this flick reminds you of an earlier hit (<keyword id="14521" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jab-We-Met">Jab We Met</keyword>) where Bebo did it with equal spontaneity and spunk. Gori Tere is sweet and breezy, but the freshness of the <keyword id="1952417" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shahid-Kapoor-Bebo">Shahid Kapoor-Bebo</keyword> starrer is somewhat missing here and the sparks are not flying. In perspective, Adarsh has tweeted: #BusinessTalk: #RamLeela dominates, #GTPM dismal, #SSTG decent in mass circuits! 
 
And that brings us to the other movie of the week – Gadar director Anil Sharma’s Singh Saab The Great. Sunny Deol-starrer Singh Saab has moved ahead of Gori Tere and grossed around Rs 21.5 crore after four days. The response has been good in North India, especially in Punjab and Delhi, and single screens have seen good turnouts except in the East and the South. 
 In this <keyword id="1952421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Action-drama">action drama</keyword>, Sunny plays a collector of a small city in <keyword id="6357713" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uttar-Pradesh">Uttar Pradesh</keyword> and values his honesty and integrity more than anything else. He fights corruption and injustice to usher in the change that real-life politicos never stop mentioning. Overall, it features a contemporary and relevant theme that can impact the audience. <keyword id="1855052" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="SSTG">SSTG</keyword> [limited screens] is best in USA-Canada, but ordinary elsewhere. Overseas total: approx $400,000 [Rs. 2.50 crore], tweeted Adarsh. 
 Meanwhile, Bhansali’s Ram-Leela is catching up after some initial hiccups. Last week, the Lucknow bench of the <keyword id="48834" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Allahabad-High-Court">Allahabad High Court</keyword> banned the screening of <keyword id="1942272" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Goliyon-Ki-Raasleela-Ram-leela">Goliyon ki Raasleela Ram-Leela</keyword> in Uttar Pradesh. The court has, however, allowed the producer and director to run the film without using ‘Ram-Leela’ and ‘Raasleela’ in the title. In its ruling, the bench said, “We are only concerned with the use of word ‘Ram-Leela’ in the title of the film, which hurts the sentiments of billions of peoples not only in India but all over the world.” 
 
But in spite of the controversies, Ram-Leela continues to dominate and seems to have overtaken Krrish 3 in the global market. According to Adarsh, #Krrish3 affected by #RamLeela wave. Overseas total *after Weekend 4*: approx $8.5 million [Rs 53.07 crore]. Blockbuster! 
 
As of now (after the 26th day), Krrish 3 has grossed a total of Rs 263.20 crore. But the question is – can Ram-Leela overtake Krrish 3 and become the topmost earner? We need to wait and watch – picture abhi baki hai and the box office war is far from over.

'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' Not Yet A Box Office Hit; 'Singh
Saab' Moves Up The Scale

Get Your <keyword id="6362088" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="100" keywordseo="kick">Kick</keyword> This Eid, yells the movie poster and sure enough, it has never been this good for a <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> release in 2014. <keyword id="1470620" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="superstar-Salman-Khan">Superstar Salman Khan</keyword> is back with Kick, his second venture of the current year, and the action-drama raced past his earlier outing <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword> (opening weekend collection Rs 58.50 crore at home). Released on July 25, the Salman Khan-Jacqueline Fernandez-starrer netted a mammoth Rs 83.83 crore at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword> in the first three days (trade figure stood at Rs 82.01 crore) and is expected to hit the Rs 100 crore mark on Day 5 (July 29) at home. 
 
“Kick has a SPECTACULAR weekend. Fri 26.50 cr, Sat 27.15 cr, Sun 30.18 cr. Total: Rs 83.83 cr nett. India biz. REMARKABLE,” tweeted film critic and analyst Taran Adarsh. This is the highest opening day collection in 2014, but Kick failed to beat the debut day records of <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword>’s <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword> (Rs 36 crore), <keyword id="4546" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Shah-Rukh">Shah Rukh</keyword>’s Chennai Express (Rs 33.10 crore) and Salman’s own <keyword id="638019" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Tha-Tiger">Ek Tha Tiger</keyword> (Rs 32.92 crore). Neither could it beat Dhoom 3’s record of entering the Rs 100 crore club in just three days. Interestingly, Salman’s Ek Tha Tiger entered the 100 crore club in the first weekend. 
 Although first Monday collections saw a huge 50% drop in earnings (compared to Sunday) at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword>, the movie collected around Rs 13.5 crore as per industry estimates, taking Kick’s four-day total to Rs 97.3 crore (approx.). The flick has also done some good business overseas and grossed around Rs 22 crore at the end of Day 4. “Kick is excellent in USA-Canada and has performed well elsewhere. The business will get a further boost once the Eid festivities begin,” said Adarsh in another tweet. 
 
With Kick hitting the 100 crore mark globally, Salman now has seven <keyword id="2448807" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-grossers">100 crore grossers</keyword> to his credit. Devil, aka Devil Lal Singh (<keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>), is initially drawn to Shaina (<keyword id="6354417" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jacqueline-Fernandez">Jacqueline Fernandez</keyword>), a <keyword id="33876" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="psychiatrist">psychiatrist</keyword> living in <keyword id="47414" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Poland">Poland</keyword>, as she manages to give him enough kick on the love front. The chemistry between the two is quite enjoyable while you have a <keyword id="1476042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="super-cop">super cop</keyword> in <keyword id="45913" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Himanshu">Himanshu</keyword> (<keyword id="16675" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Randeep-Hooda">Randeep Hooda</keyword>), trying to decode some challenging robberies masterminded by Devil (reminds you of Dhoom 3?), and a creepy villain in <keyword id="2448803" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shiv-Gazra">Shiv Gazra</keyword> (<keyword id="6359106" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nawazuddin-Siddiqui">Nawazuddin Siddiqui</keyword>). The rest is usual Bollywood histrionics – right from accident to memory loss to melodrama and finally, a predictable climax without an ounce of surprise. But you would better forget the logic and the coherence part. The best thing that happened to this movie is Salman Khan (and the supporting cast) who sizzled all the way with devilish humour, sleek action and smooth romance.

The other release of the week was <keyword id="2409416" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arif-Ali-directed">Arif Ali-directed</keyword> <keyword id="2409419" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Romantic-drama">romantic drama</keyword> <keyword id="2232911" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Lekar-Hum-Deewana-Dil">Lekar Hum Deewana Dil</keyword>, which could have gone deep into millennial psyche and become a successful coming-of-age movie with a strong romantic undertone. Instead, it turned out to be a not-so-original concoction of previous hits like <keyword id="14521" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jab-We-Met">Jab We Met</keyword> and <keyword id="6354768" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Highway">Highway</keyword> (both directed by Arif’s brother <keyword id="14373" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Imtiaz">Imtiaz</keyword>) or the age-old youth-centric flicks of Bollywood. The outcome is quite predictable – a complete washout at the <keyword id="827271" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Domestic-Box-Office">domestic box office</keyword>. 
 But first things first – let us come back to <keyword id="1997475" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samar-Shaikh">Samar Shaikh</keyword>’s <keyword id="41623" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Directorial-debut">directorial debut</keyword> Bobby Jasoos, which was produced by <keyword id="981" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Dia-Mirza">Dia Mirza</keyword> and <keyword id="440307" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sahil-Sangha">Sahil Sangha</keyword>. <keyword id="3844" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vidya-Balan">Vidya Balan</keyword> in a key role (remember <keyword id="6405846" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dirty-Picture">Dirty Picture</keyword> or <keyword id="6358300" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kahaani">Kahaani</keyword>?) has always been a treat to watch but this time, the clumsy sleuth <keyword id="2409413" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bilkis-Ahmed">Bilkis Ahmed</keyword> aka Bobby didn’t get the cash register ringing. Even after the resounding success of the <keyword id="1250908" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="romantic-thriller">romantic thriller</keyword> <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/BoxOffice-Ek-Villain-A-Runaway-Success-May-Soon-Enter-Rs-100-Crore-Club/articleshow/37631847.cms">Ek Villain</a>, Vidya’s kind of seriocomic suspense went largely unappreciated. Although the movie hit nearly 1,350 screens across 39 countries including India and enjoyed considerable hype, occupancy was dismal on the debut day itself – just around 30%. The movie netted around Rs 7.5 crore at the domestic <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> in the first three days and business slumped further on the crucial first Monday as the flick netted around Rs 1.25 crore, according to industry estimates. Keeping in mind its whopping budget of Rs 28 crore (cost and P&amp;A), Bobby Jasoos could be in the red if business does not pick up quickly during the first week. 
 
Interestingly, Mohit Suri-directed <keyword id="2177024" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ek-Villain">Ek Villain</keyword> is going great guns in spite of two new releases and already amassed Rs 92.90 crore at the domestic box office after the second Sunday. Thanks to 1,700 screens and 5,400 shows per day, the flick may enter the <keyword id="925977" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rs-100-crore-club">Rs 100 crore club</keyword> within the second week. 
 
 
 
 
Lekar Hum Deewana Dil had a <keyword id="2277648" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="disastrous-start">disastrous start</keyword> at the domestic box office, collecting a little over Rs 40 lakh on the opening day and just about Rs 1.41 crore after the first three days. The Monday earnings are not confirmed yet, but are estimated to be Rs 50 lakh, according to industry insiders. Starring newcomers <keyword id="433654" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Armaan-Jain">Armaan Jain</keyword> (well, he is <keyword id="2409428" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Raj-Kapoors-grandson">Raj Kapoor’s grandson</keyword>) and <keyword id="97760" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deeksha-Seth">Deeksha Seth</keyword>, Lekar Hum has turned out to be one of the lowest grossers with a fresh cast. The movie’s budget was Rs 16 crore (cost and P&amp;A) – a clear indication that it will have to struggle hard to break even. 
 
Critically speaking, Bobby Jasoos showcases quite a few novel features. Vidya in her multiple disguises is fun to watch; the cases she solves are from everyday life and hardly require Sherlock-like qualities, and throughout the story, we get to see a vulnerable middle-class girl from an <keyword id="122267" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="orthodox">orthodox</keyword> society and an old city, trying to establish a brand new identity. The theme is a laudable one and Vidya carries it out with great vigour, breathing life into this spicy mix of fun and mystery. But the plot tumbles towards the melodramatic all too soon, making things painfully predictable in spite of the great chemistry between Vidya and <keyword id="486750" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ali-Fazal">Ali Fazal</keyword> (<keyword id="2409430" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tassavur">Tassavur</keyword>). 
 
Armaan-Deeksha-starrer Lekar Hum Deewana Dil also had the potential to be different, but the <keyword id="1636016" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="rom-com">rom-com</keyword> fails to lift interpersonal relationship to a different level of conflict, confrontation and comprehension. So you get another mundane love story at the end. Maybe <keyword id="303" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Director">director</keyword> <keyword id="314242" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arif-Ali">Arif Ali</keyword> was trying to churn out a perfect Bollywood hit (no wonder there was a great combo of all the great rom-coms we can possibly remember). But the next time he does it, he must remember that famous quote by Anna Quindlen – The thing that is really hard, and really amazing, is... beginning the work of becoming yourself.

And this time, we have an interesting plot, some brilliant acting and an overflowing <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="box-office">box office</keyword> – all in perfect sync. Released on June 27 in more than 2,500 screens in India, the flick has netted Rs 50.70 crore at home in the first three days (Friday Rs 16.72 crore, Saturday Rs 16.54 crore and Sunday Rs 17.44 crore; however, trade figure stood at Rs 49.28 crore) – the second highest weekend collection in 2014, behind Salman Khan-starrer <keyword id="6593120" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jai-Ho">Jai Ho</keyword>. 
 Compared to debut day, earnings dropped 55% on the first Monday but the medium-budget (it cost around Rs 40 crore) movie managed to nett Rs 8.10 crore at home. Tuesday collections also dipped (Rs 6.80 crore) but the movie amassed a total of Rs 65.60 crore from <keyword id="54324" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="india-business">India business</keyword> after Day 5, crossing <keyword id="1718975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Humshakals">Humshakals</keyword>’ earnings (Rs 61.05 crore). Ek Villain has now become the fifth <keyword id="2385280" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="highest-grosser">highest grosser</keyword> of 2014, surpassing the lifetime collections of <keyword id="6377522" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="queen">Queen</keyword> (Rs 61 crore), Main Tera Hero (Rs 55 crore), Heropanti (Rs 53.40 crore) and Ragini MMS 2 (Rs 47 crore). Going by the trend, it may soon enter Rs <keyword id="6567206" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="100-crore-club">100 crore club</keyword>. Although some movie buffs may notice a marked resemblance between Ek Villain and the Korean movie <keyword id="2258746" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="I-Saw-The-Devil">I Saw the Devil</keyword>, director Suri had earlier told the media that it was not so. “That’s just one dialogue that I have taken from the <keyword id="700143" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Korean-film">Korean film</keyword>’s promo, just like I have taken another dialogue from the film <keyword id="796794" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jack-Reacher">Jack Reacher</keyword>,” Suri had told a daily. 
 Coming back to the movie itself, we must say that the ‘chill and thrill’ factor could have been more intense, especially when you have a <keyword id="1261139" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="psychopathic-killer">psychopathic killer</keyword> running loose, while the romantic part of the plot (gangster falling for the good girl) has been done to death by now and meanders a lot. In Ek Villain, all the key characters seem helplessly trapped in their own prisons and cannot get away. <keyword id="6410325" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="guru">Guru</keyword> (Sidharth Malhotra), a former hitman, only undergoes a temporary change when <keyword id="2396273" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aisha-Verma">Aisha Verma</keyword> (Shraddha Kapoor) walks into his life. But he goes back to his original vengeful self when Aisha dies, not of terminal illness but murdered by a serial killer. However, it is Riteish Deshmukh (<keyword id="2396274" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rakesh-Mahadkar">Rakesh Mahadkar</keyword>) who walks away with the honours. He is the perfect psychopath – an oppressed individual, a henpecked husband, a desperate lover and a ruthless killer all rolled in one. 
 Overall, the concoction of drama and <keyword id="1278055" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="melodrama">melodrama</keyword>, romance and terror has diluted the plot. But one still gets to see some fine performance and the flick is certainly a lot different from the routine Bollywood themes. And the best part of it all? Ek Villain has won hearts and set the cash register ringing.

The film's nett day two collection (domestic market) stood at ₹70.5 crore - with ₹68 crore amassed in Hindi, and dubbed formats bringing in additional ₹2.5 crore. It's the first Hindi film to breach the ₹70 crore nett collection on a single day. The film, which was released on January 25, 2023 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, is a spy thriller. SRK’s Pathaan sets a new record — over ₹200 crore collections in two days

It’s being touted as <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>’s best performance in his career spanning nearly 3 decades, but that’s not the only thing that makes Bajrangi Bhaijaan special for the superstar. 
 The movie was released on the holy day of Eid, and collected Rs 27.25 crores that day itself. Moreover, in just 4 days of its release, the movie has become the biggest hit of <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> this year, leaving behind both Tanu Weds Manu Returns and ABCD 2. The movie entered the much-coveted ‘100 crore club’ in the opening weekend itself, adding another 100 crores to the many that Salman’s movies have been collecting in the past few years.

From Ayushmann Khurrana to Vicky Kaushal and Kartik Aaryan, millennial stars are beating legacy actors for brand endorsements

This Diwali there were plenty of fireworks at the Indian <keyword id="25892" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="box-office">Box Office</keyword>. And these fireworks were delivered by none other than the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer <keyword id="43845" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="Happy-New-Year">Happy New Year</keyword>. 
 
Happy New Year, which is directed by Farah Khan, also stars Boman Irani, Sonu Sood, Vivaan Shah, Abhishek Bachchan and Deepika Padukone 
The movie released on October 24, 2014 and raced on to collect Rs 44.97 crore. The movie managed to earn Rs 100 crore in just 60 hours and has already been crowned the fourth highest grosser of 2014. 
 
However, the movie could not sustain this momentum on Monday and ended up netting Rs 15 crores, which took its overall tally to Rs 123.86 crore. 
 
Nevertheless, we cannot rule out the fact that Happy New Year has the potential to topple the collections of Dhoom 3 (which had recorded Gross collection of Rs 542 crore) and earn the title of Bollywood’s Top earner movie. As of now, Shah Rukh Khan starer Chennai Express is at the second position with total gross earning of Rs 422 crore. 
 Another movie that we feel has the potential to enter the Rs 500 crore club is Aamir Khan-starrer <keyword id="6396827" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="20" keywordseo="PK">pk</keyword>, which is scheduled for a December release.

Box Office: Happy New Year Gets A Cracker of An Opening

It has been another good weekend for the distributors as <keyword id="2230269" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Singham-Returns">Singham Returns</keyword> managed to pack in a good opening at the box office. 
 
As per <a href="http://www.koimoi.com/box-office/singham-returns-1st-sunday-day-3-box-office-collections/">Koimoi.com</a>, Singham Returns has netted Rs 32 crore on Friday, Rs 20-21 crore on Saturday and approximately Rs 26-27 crore on Sunday. The business of the movie has been exceptionally good on Friday (August 15) which was a national holiday. Singham Returns has been made with a budget of Rs 115 crore. It is expected that even on Monday, the movie will continue to garner good collections as a lot of offices are closed on the account of Janamashtmi. 
 
Singham Returns is a sequel to the 2011’s hit movie Singham. Just like the predecessor, it stars <keyword id="4230" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ajay-Devgan">Ajay Devgan</keyword> and is directed by <keyword id="22746" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="rohit-shetty">Rohit Shetty</keyword>. Apart from this, the movie also stars <keyword id="1377418" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor-Khan">Kareena Kapoor Khan</keyword>. The trio had earlier worked in Golmaal 3. The movie is being produced by Reliance Entertainment. 
 
At this stage, it looks like Singham Returns might prove to be Ajay Devgan’s fastest run up to Rs 100 crore-club. The buzz for the next week release Mardaani starring <keyword id="1972" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rani-Mukherjee">Rani Mukherjee</keyword> is not very high, so there is a possibility that Singham Returns will continue to shine at the box office even in the coming week. We hope that the lifetime collections for Singham Returns including Cable and Satellite rights should be in the range of Rs 250 to 300 crore. 
 On the other hand, <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> starrer Kick has so far managed to clock in Rs 374.50 crore (gross collection in domestic and international market) and has earned the title of fourth highest <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> worldwide grosser after <keyword id="24705" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="Dhoom-3">Dhoom 3</keyword>, Chennai Express and <keyword id="6373971" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="3-idiots">3 Idiots</keyword>.

​Box Office: Singham Returns Manages A Smashing Weekend

When Finance Minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> presented the budget, there were some key areas that were being looked forward to as potential growth indicators. These areas are not organised sectors, yet generate enough job opportunities and open a world of cultural exchange - one being infrastructure development with foreign collaboration, and another one, undoubtedly is <keyword id="20048" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="tourism">tourism</keyword>. 

	Tourism, though being one of the biggest grosser for the country generating foreign exchange and revenues at different levels, has also been a sector that hasn’t received much impetus. Although the <keyword id="6355364" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="UPA">UPA</keyword> government showed some signs of helping the tourism industry grow by marginally hiking the budget for the industry in 2013, things didn’t move as expected. In 2013 budget, UPA gave nearly Rs 1,200 crore to the tourism industry, upping the ante of ‘budget share’ only by an additional Rs 88 crore as compared to the year before.<o:p></o:p>

	Despite this, the sector generated revenue of Rs 63,160 crore and created 40 million jobs. The total number of inbound tourists had grown by 16% till last year, and this growth is expected to stabilise at 12% in the next decade or so. The tourism sector, though private to a large extent, is among the most equal opportunity employers and contributed nearly 7% to India’s GDP last year.<o:p></o:p>

	What ails the tourism sector is the absence of a consolidated vision and a comprehensive, yet integrated effort to make things better. Be it in terms of preservation of monuments, documenting the history to aid studies by scholars, identifying potential growth areas, improving connectivity or ensuring the security of travellers, India needs to get into the role of multitasking to harness the potential of tourism sector.<o:p></o:p>

	The hopes have gone up this year with the BJP-led government breathing life into the tourism sector by setting aside Rs 1,000 crore. Although the amount seems trifle less compared to the allocation made by UPA the previous year; the focus seems to have sharpened in 2014 with a single-party government.<o:p></o:p>

	In its maiden union budget, the <keyword id="41281" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="NDA">NDA</keyword> government set forth an ambitious and directional budget for the growth of tourism industry. E-visa facilities at nine key airports, building airports in smaller cities, theme-based tourist circuits in the offing are expected to add more robust growth direction to the ‘Incredible India’ tag that the tourism department has been building.<o:p></o:p>

	The direction for growth of tourism is two pronged. While providing the much-needed impetus to create facilities for international tourists, the government will also spend a considerable amount of allocated funds to make the inbound tourism more robust.<o:p></o:p>

	The government has set aside Rs 200 crore for the preservation of archaeological sites and Rs 100 crore for the development of heritage sites. Now, what needs to be seen is whether this will be a pan-India approach or will be limited to the popular sites that have been generating huge revenue in the Northern part of the country. <o:p></o:p>

	However, what is imperative at this juncture is to understand the direction the country would be taking in showcasing itself as a land of heritage, history and culture, along with promising value for money and safe travel for tourists from both within and outside the country.<o:p></o:p>

	The maiden budget has evoked hopes in the spirit of tourism industry, which has lauded the budget, calling it ‘futuristic.’ Theme-based tourism circuits are experiments that need feasibility study and again, the government’s credentials would be facing litmus test on how secular this overall planning can be.<o:p></o:p>

	Apart from the region and faith specific growth, Indian tourism will also have to work on promoting the ‘safe India’ image that has taken a severe beating in the wake of sexual assaults on women. This has gained India a discredit in the international circuit. The tourism industry will have to ensure this image is improved both in messaging and spirit for the government’s direction to turn in a positive manner.<o:p></o:p>
