Tim Cook is upset with slow iPhone sales but India has some good news for Apple

India is indeed a bright spot for Apple and this became more evident in its quarter ended March 2017 report. Apple’s revenue grew over 20% in India in the aforesaid quarter.
Even as Apple posted surprise dip in iPhone sales worldover, it set a new record in India.
Apple CEO Tim Cook pegged future growth in the country on its fast-growing economy, young population and rapidly improving 4G networks.
"We set a new March quarter record for India, where revenue grew by strong double digits. We continued to strengthen our local presence across the entire ecosystem, and we're very optimistic about our future in this remarkable country with its very large, young, and tech-savvy population, fast-growing economy, and improving 4G network infrastructure,” Cook said.
He added even though Apple did well in India and people were satisfied, he expected even more. "We agree that we are underpenetrated there. Our growth rates are good, really good by most people's expectations, maybe not mine as much. And so we're putting a lot of energy in, just like we have in other geos (geographies) that eventually wound up producing more and more. So I'm very excited about it,” said Cook.
Cook has many times spoken about how important India is for the iPhone maker. Apple’s growth has slowed down in the US and China.
Apple is going aggressive in India as it will set up an app development centre in Bengaluru and opened up a development centre for Apple Maps in Hyderabad, with an investment of $25 million.
"We've been investing quite a bit... We think it's a great opportunity too, and so we're bringing all the things that we brought to bear in other markets that we've eventually done well in, and that's from channel to stores to our ecosystem and so forth,” he said.
