WeddingWire, the leading global online marketplace connecting engaged couples with event professionals, has entered into India by opening its country headquarters, located in Gurgaon.
India’s wedding market is growing aggressively at 25 to 30 percent per year, and is responsible for more than one quarter of all weddings per year globally.
The company is launching in the country with an initial focus on Delhi NCR and is hoping to ignite the local market with its proven marketplace platform, suite of innovative mobile applications and desktop planning tools.
Business Insider spoke to Sonny Ganguly, WeddingWire Co-Founder and CMO who explained why this expansion makes sense for the company,” For India, weddings have great cultural importance. With approx.10-12 million weddings happening in the country every year, it made a lot of sense to launch here where people spend the most amount of money on weddings. While this market remains fragmented, we hope to expand on a city by city basis and provide a reliable tech platform to couples to find whatever they need for their special day.”
Operating within a $200 billion industry, WeddingWire, Inc. hosts 10 million monthly unique users across its mobile and web platforms and consumers are able to read over 4 million vendor reviews and search, compare and book from a database of over 400,000 businesses.
Founded in 2007, globally, it provides these businesses the technology they need to serve their clients through advertising, marketing and business management tools.
