This sci-fi movie supercut shows all the cruel ways space can screw up your day
If you think your own struggles are tough, remember: Here on terra firma, they pale in comparison to the challenges faced by fictional heroes in the cruel vacuum of space.
Filmmaker and editor Luc Bergeron, who goes by Zapatou, decided to riff on that idea by editing together a stunning supercut of clips from 25 classic and contemporary space films, including "2001: A Space Odyssey," "Alien," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and "The Martian."
Full of wistful stares out fogged windows of disabled spaceships, distress calls sent over crackling radios, and final captain's log entries left for those who find the remains, these clips are a reminder that a single dramatic tear always looks better from behind a space suit's cracked visor.
Though there are plenty of shots of Darth Vader (he's clearly not having the "bad day" mentioned in the title) and green TIE fighter laser beams begin to infiltrate all the scenes towards the end, the true villain of the supercut is the cold, emotionless void beyond our planet, unmoved by that human je ne sais quoi we're so quick to call unbreakable.
In space, no one can hear your spirit break.
While you watch Bergeron's mashup (below), which we first saw at Digg, maybe take a minute to kiss the solid ground beneath your feet and leave your worries behind.
