They are out with their fourth Formula 1 racing car prototype, and work is already on for the release of fifth one next year in August.
Undergraduate students from
TeamKART - a students’ project under the Department of Mechanical Engineering of
IIT Kharagpur - are absolutely killing it with their car innovations. Their models have garnered much accolades previously, and this has kept the team going strong for the last few years.
‘K-3′, their fourth car, is all set to hit an international competition in Russia this September, alongside 30 others from students all over the world.
Weighing 220 kg owing to the carbon fibre body panels, K-3 provides fuel efficiency of 15 kmpl which is better than K-2's performance. Students have previously come out with four prototypes and taken them to competitions each year.
This year, cars by all 30 teams in the upcoming competition will undergo minute scrutiny by the jury. The focus will be on the overall performance of these
racing cars than just the speed. As the students gear up for September, the month they hit the competition with their cars, some of the biggest car companies have their eyes on these prototypes because let's face it - it's too good to be ignored!
