The
Nifty fell to a fresh 14-month low in trade and slipped below the crucial 7,600-point mark on Monday as bears dominated trade on
Dalal Street in the absence of any news that may have prompted traders to go long on stocks.
The Nifty fell 96 points to 7,558, its day's low. Suitably, the Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 7/43. NMDC, Bosch, Vedanta, Axis Bank and
ICICI Bank were the top 5 losers on the Nifty whereas Tech Mahindra, HDFC, Yes Bank, ACC and Mahindra & Mahindra posted modest gains.
ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and HDFC were the top 3 traded stocks on the Nifty.
Not one single index posted gains. The CNX 100, CNX 200, CNX 500 and CNX Mid Cap Indices lost between 1.5-2.2 percent. Sectorial indices fell further. The
Bank Nifty dropped 2.1% to 15790 points. CNX Metal, CNX Pharma and CNX PSU Bank Indices were the top losers.
The
Sensex dropped 309 points, or 1.2 percent, to 24,894 points. Dr. Reddy's, Sun Pharma, Coal India, NTPC and ITC posted losses, while HDFC, ONGC and
Tata Motors edged up. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 4/26.
ICICI Bank, State Bank of India and Axis Bank were the top 3 traded stocks on the Sensex.
The mood was bearish in the futures and options space as well with front month
Nifty futures dipping 1.3 percent to 7,563 points. All 18 sectors lost ground with Auto, Pharma and Textile futures showing the worst losses. The Advance-Decline Ratio was 23/138. Amtek Auto, Wockhardt Pharma and Strides Arcolabs's Futures were top losers while PTC, Reliance Capital and Tech Mahindra shone in trade.
Thiru Arooran Sugars, Bannari Amman Spinning Mills and Financial Technologies made it to the top volume buzzers list while Adani Enterprises, Allahabad Bank, Andhra Bank and Bhushan Steel were on the list of stocks hitting 52-week lows
