With the
World Cup 2015 beginning today, the
cricket fever is on an all time high. While the playing teams are getting ready to take on each other and win the coveted title, millions of fans across the globe are keeping themselves busy with conversations around everything ‘cricket-y’. Though we can’t really tap the conversations happening in real-life,
Facebook has shared some interesting data about the conversations that are happening right there in their ‘very own’ virtual stadium, which they claim is the biggest in the world. According to the social networking website, of over 1.3 billion people on their network, more than 100 million people are interested in cricket. This is 1,000 times the size of the largest cricket stadium of the world. Some other interesting insights they have shared includes:
· 45% people interested in cricket on Facebook are from India, which comprises of 81% males and 19% females.
· Interestingly, the US, which is not among the 14 participating countries, has the second-highest number of people interested in cricket i.e. 8%
· These are followed by Pakistan (7%), Bangladesh (4%) and the United Kingdom (3%).
· Out of the 14 teams in the World Cup, the
Indian cricket team’s Facebook page is the most popular with more than 21 million fans.
· Apart from TV, most of the Indian fans will keep a tab of latest scores online
