This Edition
Of Batman Called Arkham Origins Is A Graphical Treat, But Has Old Moves To Show

Arkham series of Batman has been a rewarding video game succession. Now the latest edition called the Arkham Origins is out on multiple platforms including Xbox 360, on which we played the game. And it sold over 1 million copies in its first week of opening. This version is a prequel to the Arkham Asylum and starts in Gotham City, 5 years before the events of Arkham Asylum take place. However, the world here is much larger than the previous two editions.

Here, Batman is not the super vigilante as he is in Arkham Asylum or City. It has been just a year since he became a super hero, and both the police and the bad guys are wary of him. There is a bounty on his head and many super villains have stepped into the city to take him down. Let’s keep it there as we don’t want to reveal too much of the plot. Otherwise, it will take the fun away.

Gameplay
All the moves, take-downs and fighting sequences come back to this game from the previous versions and you feel right at home. People who have played the series before will be back in the driving seat in no time. So what has changed here? For starters, the open world is super huge and you have the privilege to take on multiple careers and side missions.

Taking down the foes brings the same sense of excitement that we have seen in the previous editions. And here’s a word of advice – master the controls quickly so that you can take down multiple targets at once and with ease. The detective mode has also become slightly better. However, your role after pressing the initial keys to enable the recreation of a crime scene is minimal. There are various boss fights in this game that are tough and you might need to replay them once or twice to move ahead.

Graphics
The game graphics in Batman Arkham Origins are brilliant. This is a game that one needs to play on an HDTV for best results. The character detailing is superb and one does not feel any graphical lag or glitch in the fast-action sequences. Cut-scenes are nice as well. The open world is well detailed, to such an extent that at times it feels very real. Shadows play an important role in the game and there are a lot of dark places in this version. So be careful; there might be an enemy lurking around.

To sum it up, this version of the Batman series is a mixed bag. The game is less exciting as far as the moves are concerned. We were hoping for some new fight abilities and reflexes to come, but all we have got is the recycled stuff from the last two editions. But that does not mean it is not worth a play. The storyline makes up for it and engages you so much that you have to play the next level, till you finish the game.

Overall, Batman: Arkham Origins is a good game to play over the weekend and is priced at Rs 2,999.
