This company creates mosaic glass tiles by hand using recycled bottles
- Oceanside creates a wide range of handmade mosaic glass tiles.
- They recycle 900,000 kilos of old bottles each year to create their tiles.
- During the process, the glass is heated up to 1600°C.
Oceanside Glass and Tile makes stone and glass tiles using traditional methods. Each tile is made by hand and requires hand pressing, cooling, and grinding. The glass is first heated up to 1600°C, it's then taken out and labelled onto a press, this press stamps the glass into shapes, creating the tiles outline.
The tiles are slowly cooled, a process known as annealing, which prevents any stress forming in the glass. Once cool each block is scored and separated into individual tiles. The edges are ground smooth and the individual tiles are assembled as a mosaic sheet.
Oceanside Glass and Tile offer custom designs and they use a large portion of the recycled glass.
