This Chart Shows The Incredible Explosion Of Crayon Colors Over The Last 100 Years

A chart posted to Reddit shows how Crayola crayon colors have grown from eight basic hues to dozens in a little over 100 years.

The chart is a good illustration of how many different hues can stem from one basic color:

Crayola's crayon packages, which have become a staple in nearly every grade-school classroom around the country, have been growing steadily over the past century.

The company introduced the "Crayola 48" box with as many colors in 1949, followed by the 64-color assortment with the built-in sharpener in 1958. A box that was released in 1993 offers 96 colors.
