A gas consultant, formerly known as Sam Smith, from London's Muswell Hill has reportedly legally changed his name to Bacon Double Cheeseburger out of his love of fast food.

The 33-year-old man, who was one of 85,000 people to change their name in 2015, told the Evening Standard that he applied for the name change via the UK Deed Poll after drinking with his friends at a pub.

When he received the paperwork later, Cheeseburger willingly signed the document to confirm his new identity; at the time, he was again drinking with the friends who encouraged him to make the change.

"It was the culmination of probably too many drinks in the pub where there was a conversation about names," Cheeseburger told the Standard. Bacon Double Cheeseburger "was largely the most ridiculous thing we could think of," he said. "My friends were quite supportive of anything that makes me look silly."

Cheeseburger's fiancée isn't as accepting of his new name, however. "My fiancée is fairly reluctant about marrying a Cheeseburger," he said. "That's something we're discussing a lot."

His mum isn't thrilled, either, although his dad sees the humour in it. "My mum was furious but my dad thinks it's hilarious. He's more than happy to use my new name."

While Bacon Double Cheeseburger is hardly a professional name, Cheeseburger told the Standard that he indeed ends his work emails with "B D Cheeseburger," and that his co-workers have been supportive. Surely there are jokes around the office at lunch time, though.

"What people call me is up to them but that's my name legally speaking now," Cheeseburger said. "But I've got no regrets at all. It's been a very fun experience and it's made a lot of people laugh."

However, Cheeseburger said that he might have to change his name before getting married. "No girl ever dreams of spending her big day marrying a man called Bacon."
