This $28 undershirt has underarm pads that actually prevent sweat from soaking through to my dress shirts - there's even a version for women
- For many people, dealing with uncomfortable sweat stains is a daily struggle, not just something that happens in the summer. And when you're wearing business-formal or even business-casual clothes, it can be embarrassing and annoying.
- Traditional undershirts can help mitigate the appearance of underarm marks, but people who sweat a lot are most likely soaking through a standard white tee by lunch time.
- Thompson Tees are sweatproof undershirts that actually keep your exterior clothing dry from sweat. At $28 a shirt, they're more expensive than a typical undershirt, but are totally worth it for people who struggle with extreme sweating.
Figuring out what you're going to wear to work can be more complicated than it seems.
We all want to look professional and stylish, but certain outfits don't always vibe with the weather outside or even the office thermostat that someone keeps changing, and what feels appropriate for the outside may not be best indoors, and vice versa.
If you're driving to work every day, this isn't as much of an issue, but public transportation can lead to agonizing perspiration that becomes documented on your shirt for everyone to see.
Throughout my morning commute, I have to deal with a daily fight against embarrassing underarm marks. I've always hated the feeling of sweat-stained armpits, and since shifting my ride to work from my air-conditioned car in Michigan to an MTA-sponsored sauna in NYC, it's been a much more pressing issue.
I've tested performance dress shirts that definitely helped reduce the likelihood of sweat stains with fabric specifically designed to keep your body cooler, but once the dog days of summer hit, the sweat remained a consistent problem.
That is until I heard about Thompson Tee's sweatproof undershirts.
These undershirts have what's essentially thick pads sewn into the underarm area to help eliminate any sweat that might pass through and reach your regular clothing. The brand says the pads are equipped with Hydro-Shield technology that converts sweat into vapors so there's no moisture.
The pads feel heavy when you first put on the shirt, but I got used to it fairly quickly. It sort of feels like there are diapers nuzzled comfortably in your underarms.
I've worn the Thompson Tees on some of the hottest days of the year recently, and the pads are legit. Unlike other performance dress shirts I've tested, these undershirts aren't designed to eliminate sweating or keep you cool, but are instead designed to absorb any and all sweat. I don't feel any cooler when I wear these and can still feel the sweat where the fabric touches my underarms, but there is no evidence of the moisture to my friends or coworkers. You're welcome, guys.
I even wore this under formal clothes when I went to the Belmont Stakes early this summer. While I did feel the moisture build up within my undershirt, at the end of the day, my dress shirt looked the same as when I pulled it out of the closet earlier that morning. Even the exterior of the underarm pad was dry to the touch.
The tees are available in black, gray, and white, and there's also a women's version too. Both cost $27.49 per shirt, which is considerably more expensive than a six-pack of white tees on Amazon for less than $20.
However, Thompson Tees will cut down the number of times you'll need to launder your sweat-stained dress shirts, saving you time and money in the long run. And the most obvious benefit is that the tees will also help you avoid embarrassing sweat marks and stains, which is invaluable to me.
If you're someone who deals with heavy sweating and wants to get rid of annoying and uncomfortable underarm stains, these Thompson Tees are worth the investment.
