You probably have no idea that it's happening.

Yet, when you open your mouth, or let your fingers dance over the keyboard, you might be killing your own credibility in the ears and eyes of whomever you are trying to impress.

Here's a list of some of the most common credibility-killing expressions we are guilty of using.

"Can I be absolutely honest with you?"

Does this mean you weren't honest in the previous conversation? This can be a ridiculous statement. Every great business interaction ought to be "assumed" to be founded on honesty. By asking for it at some point in the conversation, it can open up the idea that previously you were not telling every bit of relevant information.

I just want

Look at "I just want to mention that I have the right experience for this job" with "I want you to know I have the right experience for the job." Which sounds all the more powerful to you? To whom would you give the job?

With all due respect

This is normally trailed by something negative or a point of disagreement. Again, does this imply you weren't showing the other individual respect in the previous part of the conversation? Respect is the basis of any important business relationship. Instead, maybe say, "since I have always respected you ..."

I'll try

You can either accomplish something, or not accomplish something. Try not to "try." Be certain of your ability to succeed.

Honestly

This is another lazy qualifier, however it could have additional unwanted consequences. If you qualify your statement with "honestly," it might make someone think about whether you're not being honest at other times.
