These 9 slides show how European tech funding is diving while M&A is booming
The deck, which they've agreed to let us reproduce below, presents a mixed picture that will likely be troubling for anyone working at a growth stage European tech company.
Funding for tech companies was down a huge 50% in the first half of 2016, with later stage rounds taking a particular hit. IPOs are also "few and far between."
So where's the exit? M&A (mergers and acquisitions) is the only bright spot in European tech right now. European tech M&A hit $39 billion (£29.7 billion) in 2016 H1, almost 100% more than the same period last year. Deals averaged $72 million (£55 million) not far off the US average of $104 million (£79.4 million).
