As soon as Instagram released an updated this past April that allowed users to hashtag emojis on the app, it quickly banned the eggplant.

Instagram developers realized that users could be tagging the eggplant to symbolize pornographic content. The move isn't new - the company also bans explicit hashtags such as #penis and #lingerie.

Users were incensed by the ban. BuzzFeed reporter Katie Notopoulos even started the rebellious hashtag #FreeTheEggplant.

But it turns out there's a really easy work-around: Tech.Mic's Sophie Kleeman recently discovered that you can simply tag two eggplants - or three, four, five, etc. eggplants - as a super easy hack.
