You can watch movies under the stars using the projector built into the 'treehouse' tent for Rivian's R2 and R3 models
- Rivian will sell a rooftop tent with a built-in projector for its new models, TechCrunch reported.
- The tent, called "Treehouse," will have a fan and lighting system powered by the EV itself.
Rivian owners will be able to camp out on the rooftop in a tent that comes with a built-in movie projector.
The tent, called "Treehouse," will be sold as an accessory to its upcoming R2 and R3 models, TechCrunch reported.
Rivian's senior director of prototype and special projects, Brian Gase, told TechCrunch that Treehouse's projector will be powered by the EVs.
The accessory will come in a hardshell that can fit on the rooftop. It will also have a window, interior fan, and lighting system, Gase said.
The company is also planning to sell a travel kitchen accessory for the SUV, which can be connected to the hitch at the back of the vehicle. It will include a water tank, cooler, and cookware set, the report says.
Rivian revealed its latest electric vehicles last week. The EV maker is taking $100 preorders for the R2 SUV, with prices for the vehicle starting at $45,000. Pricing for the R3 and R3X hasn't yet been announced by Rivian.
The R2's price is well below what customers were paying for its previous models — the R1S and R1T — which can cost around $73,000 and $100,000.
The day after the new models were revealed, CEO RJ Scaringe said Rivian had received more than 68,000 reservations for the R2 SUV in less than 24 hours.
Owners can also camp inside the R2 SUV as every seat can be folded down. Scaringe said when debuting the new model: "It creates this awesome in-vehicle camping experience with an inflatable mattress."
Rivian didn't immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider, made outside normal working hours.
