<p class="ingestion featured-caption">Individuals around New York City shared their favorite hidden-gem travel destinations.Amy Lombard for BI</p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Summer may be over, but that isn't stopping people from dreaming about their next vacation abroad.</li><li>As more young people prioritize travel, we took to the streets of NYC to learn where they're going.</li></ul><p>Depending on where you're reading this, you might have noticed a chill in the morning air or leaves turning a golden shade of brown.</p><p>But while summer is coming to an end, people's travel plans are not — and that's especially true for younger generations.</p><p>In May, consulting giant <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/travel-logistics-and-infrastructure/our-insights/the-way-we-travel-now">McKinsey</a> reported that <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-gen-z-travel-debt-affirm-klarna-credit-cards-2024-8">41% of Gen Zers and 37% of millennials are more interested in travel</a> now than they were before 2020, compared to just 28% of Gen Xers and 22% of baby boomers.</p><p>And while some Americans are choosing to <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-americans-are-saving-money-less-travel-diy-projects-clothes-2024-9">cut down on expenses</a>, an increasing number of Gen-Zers and millennials in the US are willing to sacrifice savings in favor of booking their next big trip abroad — some are electing to fund trips through <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennial-gen-z-travel-debt-affirm-klarna-credit-cards-2024-8">"buy now, pay later" schemes</a>, while others are turning to <a target="_blank" class href="https://www.businessinsider.com/travel-agents-back-gen-z-millennials-vacation-planning-overseas-resorts-2024-6">travel agents</a> to plan their holiday adventures.</p><p>Fall travel costs have skyrocketed 36% compared to last year, according to travel insurance comparison site <a target="_blank" class href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=20099940fae8b4d37fe91be92853f3412dd18b7a74c5f99ffc20020ffb53e851&postID=66e9b1978d7e7259bc8ac6c2&postSlug=hidden-gem-travel-destinations-gen-z-millennials-recommend-2024-9&site=bi&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.squaremouth.com%2Fpress-room%2Ffall-travel-trends-travel-is-up-8-and-italy-takes-top-destination">Squaremouth</a>.
