Apple CEO Tim Cook is the owner of a new Southern California home, Dirt's James McClain reports.

The 10,000-square-foot home sold two years ago, but Dirt said it has now confirmed that Cook was the buyer. While there are conflicting reports on how much Cook paid for the home - either $9.1 million or $10.1 million - he appears to have gotten the house under the asking price of $11.5 million.

Cook's new home is located in La Quinta, California, outside of Palm Springs. Cook filmed some of Apple's iPhone launch event at Joshua Tree National Park, which is a short drive from La Quinta.

The house, which is modern and decorated almost entirely in neutrals, has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, an executive office, a wet bar and custom billiards table, two kitchens, an infinity pool with a swim-up bar, a fire pit, and a built-in barbecue. The home also has views of the Santa Rosa mountains, Dirt reports.

Nike founder Phil Knight, reality stars Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner, supermodel Cindy Crawford, music manager Scooter Braun, and Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli also own homes in the neighborhood, a ritzy gated community known as the Madison Club, according to Dirt.

A spokesperson for Cook did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Cook, who's worth $1.4 billion, according to Forbes, is known for living relatively modestly compared to fellow tech bigwigs like Jeff Bezos or Larry Ellison. Cook's primary residence, a $2.3 million, 2,400-square foot home, is located in Palo Alto, near Apple's headquarters.

Cook said in Adam Lashinsky's 2012 book "Inside Apple: How America's Most Admired - and Secretive - Company Really Works," that "money is not a motivator" for him.

"I like to be reminded of where I came from, and putting myself in modest surroundings helps me do that," he said.

In August, Cook netted $355 million after selling $750 million worth of Apple shares, which he received as the final part of his compensation package. Cook took over as Apple CEO from Steve Jobs in 2011, meaning he celebrated a decade on the job this year.
