THE NEW RESORT EXPERIENCE: The changes you can expect the next time you stay at the world's largest 5-star resort, the Wynn Las Vegas
- Wynn Las Vegas, the world's largest five-star resort, reopened on June 4 after almost three months of closure during the coronavirus pandemic.
- The hotel published a 30-page memo on its website detailing its new cleaning and social distancing protocols during the time of COVID-19.
- Before stepping inside the resort, each guest will have to pass a temperature scan.
- And to leave a car with the valet, guests must first roll down the windows, turn off the air conditioning, and put the keys in the cup holder.
- Here's what guests can expect during their next stay at Wynn Las Vegas.
One of Las Vegas' premiere five-star resorts just reopened — and the hotel has made it clear that its top priority is making sure guests feel safe enough to stay there.
Wynn Las Vegas, the world's largest five-star resort by number of rooms — along with neighboring sister hotel Encore At Wynn Las Vegas — has more than 5,000 rooms and suites, 19 restaurants, luxury boutiques, spas and salons, multiple swimming pools, nightclubs and lounges, and an 18-hole golf course.
The resort closed on March 17 as the virus outbreak hit the US. Since then, the resort has spent three months working with a team of medical and public health professionals to develop "a comprehensive health safety program," per the hotel's website.
The result is the "Wynn Las Vegas Health & Disinfection Program," a 30-page memo detailing the resort's new cleaning protocols and social distancing measures.
Wynn Las Vegas is not the only major hotel to put its coronavirus-era cleaning measures front and center, as Sarah Firshein recently reported for The New York Times. Marriott has formed a Global Cleanliness Council, Hilton has its CleanStay program, and Four Seasons has Lead With Care.
But none are quite as detailed as Wynn Las Vegas' 30-page manifesto, which covers everything from gear shift covers for valet parking to social distancing at the casino and the swimming pool.
Here's what you can expect the next time you stay at Wynn Las Vegas, per the memo.
Your valet experience will have strict rules
If you're arriving to Wynn Las Vegas in your own car, you'll be greeted by a valet attendant who will ask you to roll down the windows, turn off the air conditioning, and put the keys in the cup holder. The attendant will not open your car door.
Valet attendants will use hand sanitizer before handing a guest a valet ticket and after each interaction with a guest's vehicle. The valet staff will also use single-use steering wheel and gear shift covers in each vehicle.
Before walking inside, you'll have to pass a temperature check
Guests can expect "non-invasive thermal temperature scans" at every entrance ot the hotel, per the memo.
A security officer will administer the screening, ask guests to use hand sanitizer, and encourage them to wear a provided mask or face covering.
Anyone with a temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher will be taken to a private area for a secondary screening, which will include a health declaration and a temporal temperature reading. For guests coming from out of town with a temperature of more than 100.4 degrees, the hotel will coordinate COVID-19 testing in the guest's hotel room through its partnership with the University Medical Center.
If an employee or a non-hotel guest has a temperature of more than 100.4 degrees, they won't be allowed into the hotel. Instead, they'll be directed toward a medical facility.
Guests won't have to touch doors — but they'll have to request help with their luggage
You won't need to touch a door handle to work into the resort. Doors will be either propped open, automated, or manually operated by an employee. In the case a guest needs to touch a door handle, a hand sanitizing station will be available.
But if you want help with your luggage, you'll have to specifically request it. For guests who do ask for bell service, the bell cart will be disinfected after each use.
Casinos will be at 50% capacity and games will have limited players
Wynn Las Vegas has two 24-hour casinos with a variety of table games and slots. The main gaming floor spans 111,000 square feet.
Casino managers will be tasked with making sure guests don't congregate in groups and that occupancy stays at no more than 50% of the legal capacity.
Slot machines will be disinfected every hour and will be reconfigured with fewer chairs to allow for social distancing. Tables games will limit the number of players and remove chairs.
Swimming pools will be reservation-only
Pre-coronavirus, you probably strolled into a resort's pool area and sat wherever you wanted without a second thought.
But at Wynn Las Vegas, pool venues will require reservations and will be limited to 50% occupancy. Seating will be arranged to keep six feet between groups of guests, and life guards will make sure guests don't gather in groups.
Your manicures and spa treatments will be private and physically divided
Like at the swimming pool, a reservation will be required for an appointment at the spa or salon. Hair, nail, and skincare treatment areas will be set up with a physical divider to maintain six feet of separation between chairs and other guests.
Spa treatments will be held in private treatment rooms and by appointment only. Shared areas like locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and plunge pools will stay closed until local authorities allow.
And if you want to go to the gym, you'll have to book an appointment for a 45-minute session.
Restaurants will also require reservations, and forget standing at the bar
Wynn Las Vegas' has no shortage of restaurants, from fine dining at Cipriani and Mizumi to casual eateries.
All of the full-service restaurants will now forbid walk-ins. Reservations are required, and guests waiting for their table will be asked to wait outside the restaurant until they get a text or a call letting them know their table is ready.
Guests will not be allowed to walk up to bars and congregate.
You'll be able to control your rooms lights and air conditioning with an Amazon Alexa
Each guest room will come with a spray bottle of sanitizer or wipes.
And each room at Wynn Las Vegas already comes with an Amazon Alexa unit that allows touchless control of the lights, air conditioning, and drapery.
Staff will wear masks, but guests won't be required to
All Wynn Las Vegas employees will be required to wear face coverings. Staff will offer complimentary face coverings to guests. Guests will be encouraged, but not required, to wear them.
A 24-hour cleaning crew and 300 hand sanitizer stations
A team of cleaning professionals will be disinfecting guest areas 24 hours a day, per the memo.
Guests will also find almost 300 hand sanitizer stations throughout the resort, most of which will be touchless.
