The summer of 2023 was filled with travel chaos.
In August alone, over 1,000 flights were canceled courtesy of Hurricane Idalia. But it wasn't just nature wreaking havoc; unruly passengers and crew also contributed.
Kathleen Bangs, a former commercial pilot and a spokeswoman for the flight-tracking website FlightAware, pointed out cancellations were also due to a shortage of pilots, air-traffic controllers, and airplane mechanics. "We don't have enough people to fully saturate the airspace and maintain the level of flight safety that we need. So you're just going to have to cut flights," she said.
Chaos aside, many travelers already find flying to be an uncomfortable and annoying experience.
Skyscanner, a travel search engine company, shared with Insider a survey it commissioned to determine which behaviors irked passengers the most when flying. The market research company OnePoll from September 27 to October 2. Some 2,000 people in the US who have traveled for leisure in the last three years responded to the survey. Here are seven of the most annoying things passengers do on flights, according to Skyscanner's survey.
