The 10 most neighborly cities in the US, where crime rates are low and voter turnout is high

  • City dwellers who vote, volunteer, and give to charity are the most neighborly, Americans say.
  • That's according to a survey by Neighbor.com, which ranked cities based on these factors.

What makes a neighborhood neighborly in 2023?

For Americans, it's mostly how safe a community is and what percentage of its residents vote, according to a survey storage company Neighbor.com released this week. These were the two largest factors considered when determining the annual "Most Neighborly Cities List."

Voter turnout and crime rate were weighed higher than philanthropic giving and volunteer work — illustrating how important civic engagement is for people.

"Good neighbors heal our society's biggest wounds, starting with the smallest friendly gesture," the company's CEO Joseph Woodbury said in a release with the results.

Take a look at the list below. Insider also included population as of 2022 according Census data, and the median home price as of August, according to Redfin.
