Tesla has recalled thousands of vehicles in the US that might have loose brake caliper bolts, according to a filing made public on Wednesday.

Nearly 6,000 Model 3 and Model Y cars may have loose brake caliper bolts, which can reduce tire pressure, Tesla's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) showed.

The filing said there had been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the issue, and that Tesla would inspect, tighten, or replace the caliper bolts as necessary.

Tesla said loose caliper bolts could allow the brake caliper to separate and touch the wheel rim, which could cause a loss of tire pressure in "very rare circumstances."

In the "unlikely event" there was vehicle damage from a loose or missing fastener, the carmaker said it would arrange for the vehicle to be towed to the nearest service center and repaired, according to the filing.

Tesla was made aware in December of an incident involving a 2021 Model Y car with a missing fastener on the driver-side rear brake caliper, the filing with NHTSA said.

Elon Musk's company has since taken measures to prevent loosening of the bolts in the assembly process, it said.

Tesla didn't immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
