  • Video shows the scene on a Spirit plane that had caught fire on landing.
  • Passengers in Atlanta, Georgia, were told to stay in their seats by crew, who kept things calm.

Passengers on a Spirit Airlines flight that briefly caught fire were told to remain seated and not try to leave.

Video posted on Twitter by a passenger showed the tense moment as passengers realized the plane was on fire after landing in Atlanta, Georgia, from Tampa, Florida.

"Ladies and gentlemen, stay seated, stay seated. We do not have to evacuate now, please remain seated," a flight attendant told passengers as several got up from their seats on the flight, number 383.

"Everyone keep the aisles clear, stay seated please," the crew member said.

The clip shoes passengers mostly complying and staying calm.

A Spirit spokesperson told Insider's Hannah Towey that the fire was due to a brake overheating as the plane was landing.

The spokesperson said the fire was extinguished and the plane was towed to the gate where passengers got off without any injuries.
