See what it's like staying at a celebrity-loved $7,600 luxury wellness retreat in Malibu where guests go on four-hour morning hikes and are fed 1,400 calories daily

The Ranch
- Celebrities, influencers, and C-suite executives are flocking to a wellness retreat in Los Angeles.
- The Ranch's $7,600 seven-day stay includes daily four-hour hikes and a baseline of 1,400 calories.
It's healthy to crave a break from burnout and life's everyday stressors.
The Ranch
And for some high-earning celebrities, influencers, and C-suite executives, this break is worth paying up to nearly $9,000 for seven days at The Ranch …
The Ranch
… where guests are (somewhat ironically) greeted with a daily preset 5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. schedule, 1,400 calories, and four-hour hikes.
The Ranch
The Ranch Malibu, Los Angeles' beloved wellness retreat, first launched in 2010 with a sprawling property in the Santa Monica Mountains of Malibu, California.
The Ranch
And business seems to only be getting better: The brand launched its first international location in Fiuggi, Italy this year …
The Ranch
… and has plans to debut a new location in New York's Hudson Valley next year.
The Ranch
Think of The Ranch Malibu as an adult camp with a preset schedule, luxurious sleeping quarters, and treatments like IV therapy, sound baths, and a cold plunge pool.
The Ranch
Luxury wellness resorts like this aren't a new concept.
The Ranch
But unlike the typical getaway with leisurely schedules, sunrise yoga, spa treatments, and daily guided walks …
The Ranch
… The Ranch's guests come with a daily preset itinerary.
The Ranch
Everyday, Ranch-goers are woken at 5:30 a.m. daily for a stretch, vegan breakfast, and four-hour hike in the mountains powered by six almonds.
The Ranch
After a post-hike lunch, guests then follow scheduled activities like a nap, strength training, massage …
The Ranch
… and yoga in the 3,000-square-foot fitness center, all before saying goodnight at 8 p.m.
The Ranch
And Ranch fans pay a pretty penny for a week filled with these planned activities.
The Ranch
The Malibu location has several programs with varying durations and prices, from a seven-day stay with 25 other guests at $8,900 or $7,600 per person in a single room or double occupancy cottage, respectively …
The Ranch
… to a nine-day private stay that can run travelers up to $15,800.
The Ranch
And by day seven, guests will have hiked over 60 miles, "shedding unwanted pounds and inches," according to its brochure.
The Ranch
They may be losing somewhat substantial weight (one reviewer on its website says they lost 10 inches), but Alex Glasscock, CEO and co-founder of the Ranch, told Insider the retreat doesn't use the term "diet" despite attendees only being fed a baseline of 1,400 calories a day.

Instead, he says the daily menu is filled with "nutritionally dense plant-based" foods, whether it be a white bean salad, portobello mushroom steak, kale chips, and grilled fruit …
The Ranch
… all without dairy, soy, gluten, processed sugars, "diet sweeteners," caffeine, or alcohol.
The Ranch
And if a guest's goal isn't to lose weight, they can always request additional food like double portions or a morning smoothie.
The Ranch
Consuming a minimum of 1,400 calories throughout a day may not seem substantial for guests whose daily schedules include intensive exercise like strength training and hours-long hikes.
The Ranch
But according to Glasscock, this helps The Ranch's visitors "detoxify but in a healthy way."
The Ranch
"We're showing people that you can actually eat healthy and be really active and not be hungry," he said, noting that guests sometimes leave with a "Ranch glow," leaner face, and brighter eyes.
The Ranch
A sudden massive lifestyle change may be jarring for first timers who don't eat a restrictive plant-based diet and hike for miles every morning.
The Ranch
So to help people transition to this Ranch lifestyle, guests receive a 30-day pre-arrival package with tips on how to change your exercise and diet habits before arriving to luxury property.
The Ranch
During the multi-day retreat, guests receive a "Body Pod fat analysis" to help gauge the retreat's impact on its guests.
The Ranch
A lower-calorie diet and intensive exercising will likely inevitably lead to weight loss for most people.
The Ranch
And according to the retreat's website, guests undergoing the seven-day program lose between 3% to 6% of body weight and "substantial inches of fat loss and muscle gain."

Despite this advertising, Glasscock says The Ranch Malibu's goal isn't for its guests to shed weight.
The Ranch
Instead, it's all about losing fat, gaining muscle, and how the guests "feel."
The Ranch
And apparently, many of them leave feeling satisfied enough to become repeat customers.
The Ranch
About half of its visitors return for another round at The Ranch, and about 35% of its guests have been referred by previous visitors.
The Ranch
And "detoxing" at The Ranch Malibu is only becoming more popular.
The Ranch
Retreats are now being booked out about four months in advance.
The Ranch
To compare, before COVID-19, booking lead times fell within two to three months.
The Ranch
According to Glasscock, a majority of the guests are millennials and baby boomers who are "well-educated and very successful in their careers," whether it be famous actors or C-suite executives working in Fortune 1,000 companies …
The Ranch
… although lately, it's also seen an influx of younger guests and multi-day corporate retreats.
The Ranch
But no matter the guest, The Ranch's goal is the same: to give guests a place to mentally reset, recharge, and rest away from the stressors of everyday life and people.
The Ranch
"If they follow our instructions, they [will] leave mentally cleaner, more positive, and detoxed," Glasscock said. "Everybody leaves being their best current selves."
